Volume 3, Chapter 40 – The Town of Jinsha, and Once Again

I spoke up tentatively, looking at the three surprised people.

“…Um, Chris-san, Shizuku-san, why do you both look so shocked? We do things like this all the time, don’t we? Er, Belood? You might not be very familiar with Holy Magic, but this is normal for me. Besides, there are plenty of people at the Temple who can do something like this, you know?”

Amidst all this, Lu-chan just looked blankly confused, which was adorable. She was a precious source of healing in this desolate, ruined village.

“Why is it that you can use that magic?”

“Um…?”

Belood asked me while glaring at me.

“Do not play dumb! I am asking you: what was that incantation!?”

“I’m sorry. I really don’t understand what you mean.”

“In other words, you mean you always use that same incantation to see off the dead?”

“No, not always. When I know who I’m sending off, I tailor the incantation to that person… it’s something like that.”

“You change the incantation every single time!?”

Ugh, what should I do? I have absolutely no idea why he’s so angry.

Since I’m sending off a specific person, isn’t it only natural to think of the right words for them? Did I accidentally say something that offended Belood?

“Belood-dono, I must ask you to stop cornering Fiene-sama like this.”

Chris-san stepped in between Belood and me.

“What? A mere human dares—!”

Eh? Is this going to turn into a fight?

“Say what you will. Fiene-sama has brought peace to the soul of your adoptive mother. Are you not ashamed to show such an attitude toward Fiene-sama in front of your adoptive mother’s spirit?”

Hearing this, Belood gave a small, sharp click of his tongue.

“…Fine. For Fiene’s sake, I shall let this pass. But if you speak to me like that again, I will lop off your head.”

As he spoke, Belood released a terrifying amount of bloodlust.

Even though it wasn’t directed at me, I felt myself shrink in fear.

“You lot were heading to Jinsha, were you not?”

“Yes. That’s correct.”

“Then I shall send you there. If you linger here any longer, I feel I might actually lop off that knight’s head.”

With that, Belood stepped slightly away from us and chanted some magic.

Suddenly, our bodies were wrapped in something like a thin black membrane, and we floated gently into the air.

“Don’t struggle. I won’t be responsible if you fall.”

Trapped inside the membrane, we slowly ascended. Then, we rapidly gained altitude and speed. The view was great since we could see everything around us, but the fact that there was nothing but empty air beneath us made me feel very uneasy.

“O-Onee-sama! We’re flying!”

“So this is… the magic of the Demon Race…”

“It is truly formidable.”

“I wonder what attribute this magic is? Hmm, it feels like wind, maybe?”

“Eh? Onee-sama, does that mean Mashiro can use it too?”

“I wonder. But it also feels like the dark attribute. Hmm, it’s hard to say.”

“I see.”

The three of them had completely forgotten the tension from before and were simply amazed.

Still, they were so scared on the cliffside walkway, yet they’re perfectly fine with this. How strange.

As I was thinking this, the town of Jinsha soon came into view. Our altitude and speed gradually decreased, and we landed softly in the brush near the town.

“Phew, anyway, I’m just glad everyone made it back safely,” I let slip.

Honestly, he’s clearly on a different level, incredibly arrogant and condescending, and I have no idea what triggers his temper—he’s the kind of person I never want to face again.

“Now, let’s get into town and find an inn before the sun sets.”

At my prompting, everyone started walking.

“By the way, Chris-san, snapping at Belood like that… what did you plan to do if he had actually lost his temper?”

“U-um, my apologies. However, I could not bear to see Fiene-sama subjected to such baseless interrogation…”

“…Honestly. You knew we couldn’t beat Belood in our current state, right?”

“Yes. I have no excuse.”

“I have no intention of parting with you, Chris-san. If things end up being fine just because I had to put up with a little unfair treatment, then that’s okay. Oh, and the same goes for you, Shizuku-san. You were thinking about having a spar, weren’t you?”

“Ugh…”

“I have no intention of parting with Shizuku-san, or of course, Lu-chan. I can’t use Resurrection Magic, so if you die, I can’t save you, you know?”

“I have no excuse.”

“Onee-sama…”

“Is that clear? Please don’t go dying on your own. It’s a promise, okay?”

“Got it.”

“Understood.”

“Yes!”

“Then, let’s go.”

And so, we hurried toward the town gates.

Wait? Did I forget to ask something important?

Well, whatever. If I can’t remember it, it probably wasn’t that big of a deal.

We stayed at the same inn we had used last time.

The facilities, service, and food were all good, and it was a wonderful inn with extra-large portions for Lu-chan.

Dinner was over and our stomachs were full.

Now, in the room I shared with Chris-san—we had rented two double rooms, so Lu-chan was in a room with Shizuku-san—we were discussing our future plans.

“Now, what should we do from here?”

“I am, after all, in the midst of a warrior’s pilgrimage. I do not mind where we go, but a place with many strong people would be preferable. A place with many monsters would also be fine.”

“I’m happy anywhere as long as I’m with Onee-sama. Oh, but maybe a place I’ve never been before would be better.”

“What would you like to do, Fiene-sama?”

“Let’s see. It seems the other Elf villages don’t need Riche’s Purification for now, so I think that can wait. In that case, I suppose we should focus on finding Lu-chan’s sister.”

“In that case, shall we return to Lilun and ask Aslan-dono for information?”

“That sounds good, but I think it would be better to visit the imperial capital of the Red Sky Empire first and pay my respects to the Emperor. When it comes to searching for Lu-chan’s sister, it will be easier to get things moving if I use my position as a Saint Candidate.”

“If we can get things arranged with the Emperor, that would be best. However, was the status of a Saint really enough to meet the Emperor so easily?”

“Will you help me find my sister too, Shizuku-san?”

“Of course. Lumia-dono is my comrade. It is only natural to help a comrade in need.”

“Thank you so much!”

As we were talking, there was a knock on the door.

“Who is it?” I replied through the door.

“Fiene Argentata-sama, there is a guest for you in the lobby.”

“A guest?”

“Yes, a man who introduced himself as Felhi.”

“Felhi!?”

We all shouted out instinctively.
