Volume 5, Chapter 24 – Chatting in the Tent (2)
I see. So that’s why there were so many casualties back then—because they were trying to forcefully take it from Shizuku-san and become its master.
As I was pondering this, Chris-san spoke to Shizuku-san with a serious expression.
“Shizuku-dono, are there any other legends regarding Kirinagi besides the fact that it chooses its owner?”
“That is as you say. It is said to have existed since so long ago that no one knows when it first appeared. Other than that… it is said to be unbreakable, though I cannot say for certain about that part.”
Well, the reason it’s still here is because it hasn’t broken yet, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee it’ll never break in the future.
“I see.”
Chris-san thought for a moment, then looked straight at me with a solemn gaze before speaking.
“Fiene-sama, did you feel anything when you held Kirinagi?”
“Eh? Um? Hmm, how was it? Ah, Shizuku-san, could I hold it for a second?”
“I do not mind.”
I took Kirinagi from her.
“It’s warm and comfortable. I can feel a holy power flowing into me. Here, Shizuku-san. Thank you.”
“Ah, as I thought, Kirinagi seems to favor Fiene-dono.”

“Hehe, you think so? So, Chris-san, why do you ask?”
“Yes. How did it feel when you held my Sesrumnir?”
Chris-san didn’t answer my question, instead replying with a question of her own.
“Eh? Hmm? Um, if I recall, I remember it feeling good, like a lot of holy power was flowing into me. Oh, and despite how it looks, it felt light as a feather?”
“I see.”
Hearing my answer, Chris-san looked satisfied.
She gazed at me and Shizuku-san with a serious expression, then slowly spoke.
“Fiene-sama, Shizuku-dono, I believe that Kirinagi is a Holy Sword.”
“Huh?”
“A Holy Sword? But Kirinagi is a katana,” Shizuku-san replied.
“Shizuku-dono, not all Holy Swords are swords like my Sesrumnir.”
As she said this, Chris-san placed her Holy Sword in a position where we—and especially Shizuku-san—could see it clearly.
“There are Holy Swords of various shapes across the world. I have heard that in the past, there were not only swords, but also spears and bows.”

“Is that so?”
I interrupted the conversation between Chris-san and Shizuku-san to ask.
“Yes, Fiene-sama. For example, there was once a spear called the Holy Spear Asterodia. This was roughly 500 years ago; it is said that a Holy Knight, chosen by a Saint from the former Kingdom of Bluestar, possessed it. Unfortunately, it is told that it was lost during the battle with the Demon Lord of that era.”
“Does that mean the reason no Saint from Bluestar has been chosen is perhaps…”
“Yes. Because all the Holy Swords that choose a Saint have been lost.”
I see. So that’s how that terrifyingly passionate, “Hooray for the Saint!” national character was formed.
“But I have never heard of Kirinagi choosing a Saint! In the first place, the very existence of a ‘Saint’ is hardly known in the Golden Sun Miko Nation!” Shizuku-san asked Chris-san, looking a bit flustered.
Her speaking pace had quickened slightly.
“I cannot say for certain. However, there are many signs that it is a Holy Sword—or perhaps in Kirinagi’s case, I should call it a Holy Blade. First, it chooses its owner, and it rejects anyone who is not the rightful owner, killing them in the worst-case scenario. This is the same for my Sesrumnir, as well as Fringhornir, which is held by the other Holy Knight in Whitemoon.”
I see. Now that she mentions it, I feel like I remember her saying something like that.
“However, Fiene-sama, as a Saint, was able to hold the Holy Swords regardless of such restrictions. My Sesrumnir, and even Fringhornir, which should have chosen a different Saint. And Kirinagi, which is supposed to reject others.”
Hmm? Did I ever hold a sword like that before?

As I tilted my head in confusion, Chris-san provided a supplement.
“Fiene-sama, you may have forgotten, but it was when you saved Charlotte-sama and Hugues during the incident with the evil spirit Joseph.”
“Huh? Oh, ah? Um, come to think of it? Did something like that happen?”
The evil spirit Joseph!
Yeah, that brings back memories. But for me, the memory of being chased by a horde of French dolls is much more vivid.
I think it’s only natural to forget something as small as touching a sword.
Regardless, although I hadn’t actually remembered, Chris-san seemed satisfied with my “remembering” attitude and began speaking to Shizuku-san again.
“And above all, Shizuku-dono met Fiene-sama, the Saint, and offered your blade. That in itself is the greatest piece of evidence.”
Hey! That’s your final piece of evidence?
And here I was listening, thinking Chris-san was really impressive.
“Therefore, Fiene-sama, once we arrive at the Royal Capital, it would be best to have His Eminence take a look.”
“Yes. I agree. I want to see everyone I’ve missed, too.”
Plus, it’s been a while since I’ve seen those acrobatic prayers.

“Chris-san! What about my bow?!”
While I was thinking about that, Lu-chan naturally blurted out something mysterious.
“…Lumia. I have heard that the Holy Bow Laodamia, which was once passed down in Bluestar, was lost long ago. Furthermore, even if there were another unknown Holy Bow like Kirinagi, there is no guarantee you would be chosen. You need to train properly instead of just eating all the time.”
“Muuu! Then I’ll look for a Holy Fork, or a Holy Spoon, or Holy Chopsticks!”
No, no. I think that’s a little too much.
“Lu-chan, you don’t need a Holy Bow to stay with me, okay?”
“Yay! I love you, Onee-sama!”
Lu-chan happily hugged me.
“Wait, Lu-chan, it’s hot. Please don’t cling to me.”
“Onee-samaaa!”
I wonder if the people in the other tents could sleep with all this racket? I hope they’re okay.
And so, the noisy yet pleasant night deepened.
