Volume 6, Chapter 8 – The Traitor
“Shizuku-san, what happened?”
“This man appeared to be the ringleader of the attack, so I captured him. As for the others, I do not know why they attacked, but I simply fought them back, you see.”
“V-Vice Commander!?”
Shizuku-san answered my question, and the Platoon Leader let out a cry of surprise upon seeing the knight she had captured.
“Vice Commander?”
“Y-Yes, Saint-sama. This gentleman is Gael Bakoyannis-sama, the Vice Commander of the Fifth Knight Order Border Guard.”
“Then why did he attack us?”
“…Uh, why are you asking me…?”
Chris-san was emitting an incredible amount of bloodlust.
“The Vice Commander of the Border Guard attacked Fiene-sama, the Saint of the Kingdom, and the second squad attacked her attendant, Shizuku-dono. Does this mean the Fifth Knight Order has decided to turn its bow against the Kingdom?”
“T-That is not the case! We belong to the Fifth Knight Order, but before that, we are knights who pledged our swords to the King! It is unthinkable that we would turn our bows against His Majesty and the Saint whom our country takes pride in!”
“Very well. Bind these traitors!”
“Y-Yes, ma’am!”

Following Chris-san’s orders, the man named Gael and the ten members of the second squad were tied up, and we headed back toward the town of Calvara.
◇ ◇ ◇
We eventually arrived at the gates of Calvara.
However, the gates would not open, and arrows were fired at us from the ramparts.
There, I saw the figure of Robert, the scummy Gate Captain who was supposed to have been imprisoned yesterday.
“Look! That is a fake posing as the Saint! She claimed she was going into the forest to hunt monsters, but she viciously murdered the hunters in the woods! Comrades from the Border Guard grew suspicious and pursued her, witnessing the scene with their own eyes! She is absolutely no Saint! She is an evil woman, a Vampire who kills people and drinks their living blood!”
“Get out of here, fake Saint!”
“You brat! Stop pretending to be the Saint!”
At Robert’s words, the soldiers stationed atop the walls began hurling insults at me.
I have absolutely no memory of this, but apparently, I’ve been framed for killing hunters.
Well, I’m only acting as the Saint because of how things turned out, and the “Vampire” part is actually correct, so I guess it’s not completely wrong.
“D-Don’t speak such nonsense! To call the Saint-sama, who wields such magnificent Holy Magic and Healing Magic, an evil woman like a Vampire! Your insolence knows no bounds!”

The Platoon Leader was defending me, but… I am a Vampire.
It’s too much effort to correct him at this point, so I didn’t bother.
“Hah? Now that I look closer, aren’t you the Captain of the Ninth Platoon? You act so high and mighty as a Platoon Leader, but in the end, you’re just a commoner! You can’t even tell a fake Saint apart. It’s because commoners like you become Platoon Leaders that your subordinates have to suffer!”
Seriously, what is wrong with this person? He’s a noble, yet he can’t even tell the difference, I thought, though I knew better than to actually say it.
Sigh.
I figured no one would fall for such a low-level taunt, but the Platoon Leader’s face turned bright red, so it seems it was incredibly effective.
“If Eustache-sama finds out about this, you won’t get away with it!”
Robert scoffed at the words the Platoon Leader desperately managed to squeeze out.
“Hmph. Eustache-sama is being manipulated by that fake Saint’s magic. Once that fake is disposed of, he will return to his senses.”
“What…!”
The Platoon Leader was speechless. I was so appalled I couldn’t even speak. I wonder how a person’s brain has to be wired to come up with a logic like that?
“Fiene-sama, I shall go. Everyone else, do not interfere.”

Chris-san spoke quietly and drew her Holy Sword.
“Eh? Ah, um, okay. Have a nice trip?”
There’s a wall there; what exactly does Chris-san plan to do?
“My name is Christina, shield to Saint Fiene Argentata-sama and Holy Knight of the Royal Guard Special Forces of the White Moon Kingdom. Based on the justice I swore to my Holy Sword Sesrumnir, I shall now subjugate the traitor Robert. Open the gates! Know that any act of turning your bow against me is an act of rebellion against His Majesty the King and God!”
“Shut up! She’s a fake too! Fire the arrows!”
At Robert’s command, arrows were launched at Chris-san.
She lowered her center of gravity to dodge them and closed the distance to the city gate in an instant.
“Hah!”
With a single swing of her sword, she sliced through the city gate in the blink of an eye, cutting a hole large enough for people to pass through.
“Hieeeeeee!”
The knights guarding the gate let out pathetic screams and scattered in panic.
From their perspective, they probably never imagined Chris-san could cut through the gate, but it’s still quite pathetic that the knights meant to protect the people would end up in such a state.

“T-This is impossible!”
Robert’s eyes widened in shock.
But thinking about it, if it had been the General, he probably would have destroyed the entire wall with a single kick, and if it were Shizuku-san, she’d have appeared on top of the wall before anyone noticed.
Furthermore, if Ade, Belood, or Suikyou were the opponents, his head would have already flown off.
If you’re going to pick a fight with someone calling themselves a Holy Knight, shouldn’t you be prepared for that level of power?
Chris-san appeared atop the wall almost immediately. She cut down the resisting knights one after another and reached Robert in no time.
“A-A-Ah… h-help…”
It seemed Robert had fallen onto his backside. Since I was looking up from below, I could no longer see him. Then, Chris-san swung her sword.
“Gyaaaaaaa!”
Robert’s scream echoed far and wide.
And just as Chris-san raised her sword for another strike, Eustache-san’s voice rang out.
“What are you doing! What in the world is this commotion!”
