“Chris-dono, I leave that one to you! I shall handle those over there!”

Following Shizuku-dono’s instructions, I cut down a nearby Giant Roach.

Meanwhile, Shizuku-dono closed the distance to a darkened house in a flash, instantly slashing through three Giant Roaches that had been gnawing at the door, trying to break inside.

As expected, having night vision is a massive advantage for Shizuku-dono.

“Chris-dono!”

“Yes, let’s hurry. We must stop those cockroaches from infiltrating!”

We began sprinting toward the west gate, the entry point mentioned in the messenger’s report.

“O flames, gather in my hand in the name of God, become a sphere, and destroy my enemies! Fireball!”

When we arrived near the west gate, we saw a deluge of Giant Roaches pouring over the city walls. The unit guarding the west gate had already fallen back from the top of the wall, while Fire Attribute Mages rained Fireballs upon the Giant Roaches from the ground.

“Damn, are we too late?”

Noticing my voice, the Platoon Commander ran toward me.

“Christina-sama! There are wounded! They’ve been bitten by the Giant Roaches! Wait, where is Saint-sama?”

“Fiene-sama has just finished purifying the Undead from the entire town and the surrounding forest; she is currently resting. Transport the wounded to the field hospital.”

“Y-Yes, sir!”

“More importantly, why did you abandon the top of the wall?! At this rate…!”

“The thing is, because of the darkness, we didn’t notice them approaching, and with so many of them, the torches were…”

“Tch, I see.”

Indeed, that number might be overwhelming.

“Platoon Commander-dono, do you have any oil?”

“Oil, ma’am?”

“Shizuku-dono, what do you mean by that?”

I asked back, unable to grasp Shizuku-dono’s intention.

“Once we retake the top of the wall, we shall spread oil and set it ablaze. If any more enter the town, the damage will only increase. If we set the area around the wall ablaze so they can’t get in, we can wipe them all out in one fell swoop.”

“I-I see. They burn, but the stone walls won’t catch fire so easily. As expected of Saint-sama’s attendant-dono. I’ll have the oil brought over, so please hold them off!”

“Very well, I accept. I’m counting on you for the oil!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

With that, the Platoon Commander ran off.

“I am Holy Knight Christina. I am taking command here. Wounded, get behind the mages! Knights who can move, lure the Giant Roaches in front of the mages! I will protect the mages! Shizuku-dono, please take down any Giant Roaches that slip through the net!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

“Leave it to me.”

It seemed they followed my orders immediately; the members of the platoon scattered, and the wounded were carried away one after another.

The knights stopped trying to kill the monsters by force and instead used torches to herd them.

“Hah!”

I cut down a Giant Roach that lunged at me.

“Mages! Ready your fire!”

Three mages began their incantations.

“Now! Fire!”

“””Fireball!”””

The Fireballs launched in unison incinerated the Giant Roaches the knights had herded together.

However, the Giant Roaches kept pouring in one after another with no sign of slowing down.

“Don’t falter! Fire!”

“””Fireball!”””

The gathered Giant Roaches were burned once more. And then, more Giant Roaches invaded.

“Hey, you lot, how is your MP? Drink these before you run dry.”

I handed MP Potions created by Fiene-sama to the mages, who were beginning to show signs of fatigue.

“What is this?”

“MP Potions made by Fiene-sama. I’m told they restore more than standard MP Recovery Medicines.”

“Potions?! Giving such precious items to us?!”

“Is this the time for that?! Protect the town!”

“Y-Yes, ma’am!”

Clearly moved, the mages popped the lids off the MP Potions and gulped them down in one go.

“A-Amazing. It doesn’t taste bad!”

“This is insane. My MP’s completely restored already. I can keep going!”

“As expected of Saint-sama!”

Thus, the revitalized mages burned the Giant Roaches, and then more Giant Roaches invaded. After repeating this about ten times, the Platoon Commander returned.

“Christina-sama! I have brought the oil!”

“Good. We retake the top. Shizuku-dono! Clear a path!”

“Leave it to me.”

I hoisted a barrel of oil onto one shoulder, gripping a torch in my other hand.

“Mages, clear the path to the stairs!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

As the mages launched Fireballs toward the stairs leading to the top of the wall, the Giant Roaches in their line of fire became balls of flame and perished.

“Chris-dono, follow me.”

“Right.”

Shizuku-dono bolted, and I did my best to keep up.

“Hah, so fast! What incredible speed!”

The knights cried out in astonishment, but Shizuku-dono was deliberately keeping her pace slow enough for me to follow.

If Shizuku-dono were to truly give it her all, I wouldn’t be able to keep up even if I weren’t carrying this barrel.

Shizuku-dono cut down Giant Roaches one after another as she ascended the stairs, reaching the top of the wall in no time.

“Now, this!”

I dumped the oil from the barrel all over the route the Giant Roaches were using to enter, and then threw the lit torch into it.

The flames ignited the oil and flared up instantly; the Giant Roaches climbing from the outside were incinerated in a mass, and as they scrambled around, they set the surrounding Giant Roaches on fire as well.

Furthermore, the fire spread to the withered undergrowth, leaving the Giant Roaches with nowhere to run as they were burned one by one.

“Alright, that should do it. You there, you’re in charge of the fire outside. Now all that’s left is to exterminate the Giant Roaches that made it into town!”

As I shouted, a cheer erupted from the surrounding knights.
