Volume 7, Chapter 2 – Departure

“Forgive the sins of Thy humble servant, Christina, and grant her the vocation of a sailor.”

Then, the Pope and Chris-san executed a magnificent Jumping Dogeza from a Boon.

This pair was quite impressive.

However, since Chris-san was slightly behind the Pope’s movements, I’d give them a 9 out of 10.

Now, as you can tell from what I just said, we have come to the Temple. As evidenced by the Pope’s prayer, Chris-san has finally given in and undergone a Class Change.

After exchanging a few words with the Pope, Chris-san returned to us.

“Fiene-sama, everything is fine now. I have learned Seasickness Resistance at Lv 2. I shouldn’t embarrass myself aboard a ship anymore.”

“Chris-san, that’s wonderful.”

“Thank you very much. I have also learned Ship Handling, Sail Handling, and Swimming at Lv 1. Once I gain a few more levels, it should be possible to navigate the open ocean.”

Chris-san puffed out her chest as she spoke.

“Well then, I’ll look forward to it.”

When I said that, Chris-san replied with a happy “Yes.”

“Lady Fiene, have a safe journey. I pray that your voyage to the Yellow Planet Federation of Emirates will be a prosperous one.”

“Pope-sama, thank you. I will ensure that I fulfill my duties properly.”

“May God’s Blessings be upon Lady Fiene.”

Once again, the Pope saw us off with a Jumping Dogeza from a Boon. I’m sure it’ll be a great trip.

Hm? But come to think of it, I’ve nearly died several times already; maybe it’ll be a grueling journey?

With a vague sense of foreboding lingering in my chest, I left the Temple, climbed into the carriage provided by the Knight Order, and departed the Royal Capital.

Oh, by the way, out of the money I received from the Royal Palace the other day, I donated 5,000 gold coins to the Temple.

I asked them to use 500 for an orphanage in Airoll and the remaining 4,500 for orphanages in the Madura Region, which had been ravaged by the Black Rainbow Empire.

I paid 2 gold coins as a processing fee, but they said the full amount would be distributed to each orphanage under my name.

Since I’ll receive an itemized statement when I return, it doesn’t look like anyone will be able to pocket part of the money along the way.

How should I put it… there are plenty of strange nobles, but it’s reassuring that the Temple somehow seems remarkably decent, which is reassuring.

I wish the nobles would follow their example, but that’s probably impossible.

Sigh.

Despite some trouble being attacked by monsters along the way, we arrived safely at the town of Semnos.

From here, we will take a ship to Izar, a port town in the west of the Yellow Planet Federation of Emirates.

Then, from Izar, we will cross the desert toward the capital, Eibra.

Up until Semnos, we were escorted by the Royal Guard, but from here on, we fall under the jurisdiction of the Third Knight Order.

I’m told this town is the capital of the Zaccara Marquisate.

Naturally, the lord also lives here, and I received an invitation to the lord’s manor.

However, I didn’t want to get tangled up in any more obligations, so I politely declined the invitation and stayed at the hotel provided by the Kingdom.

I stayed there, but…

“Saint-sama, this is truly a momentous mission.”

The one who spoke with such grandiosity while sitting before me was Marquis Claudio di Zaccara, the lord who governs the Semnos area.

“No, it’s not really that big of a deal. I’m just going to have a little chat with the Emir… or whatever they’re called.”

“Haha, as expected of Saint-sama. You may already know, but our White Moon Kingdom and the Yellow Planet Federation of Emirates are not on very good terms. Semnos serves very much as a naval port, as it bears the critical duty  of preventing an invasion from the Yellow Planet on the opposite side of the sea. Because of this, we inevitably find ourselves on guard whenever the Yellow Planet is mentioned.”

“Is that so?”

Come to think of it, I heard that the four neighboring countries once went to war over the area around Novarbour, so I suppose grudges still remain.

White Moon and Blue Star seem to have become quite friendly, but that might be because Blue Star became a Republic, making it harder to wage large-scale wars.

“Speaking of which, I have heard that recently, many shipwrecks have been drifting in from the south.”

“Shipwrecks?”

When I asked, Claudio-san nodded.

“Yes. The currents around here flow from south to north, so we suspect either an entire fleet was lost in a storm, or a large-scale naval battle took place somewhere to the south…”

“I see.”

“I do not believe it will affect Saint-sama much, but please be careful not to stir up any unnecessary trouble.”

“Hm? Uh, okay.”

I wasn’t quite sure what he meant, but I nodded anyway.
