Volume 7, Chapter 23 – The Defense of Dalha
“Lu-chan! Take out those cacti gathered over there!”
“Yes! Mashiro!”
“Shizuku-san, please handle that group of Yellow Scorpi over there!”
“Leave it to me.”
“Chris-san, please stop those lizards coming from that direction!”
“Ha.”
After giving the three of them their orders, I deployed a Barrier, then began treating the soldiers who had recklessly charged the Yellow Scorpi.
“Detoxify! Healing!”
Along with a faint light, the soldiers who had been on the verge of death visibly recovered.
“Ohhh…”
“S-Saint-sama…!”
“God exists—”
“The enemy is still here! If you want to protect the town and Saint-sama, fight!”

A man who appeared to be the commander barked at the soldier just as he looked ready to go Bitan.
“Y-Yes, sir!”
At that, the soldier jumped, straightened his back, and spun around to face the monsters.
Could he be a recruit? If so, isn’t it a mistake to make him fight monsters this strong?
However, the monsters weren’t about to be considerate of such circumstances, and a rat monster leaped at the soldier.
“U-Uwaah!”
“Defense Wall.”
He couldn’t react in time and was about to be bitten, so I protected him with a Defense Wall.
“What are you doing?! Just cut it already!”
“H-Hieee!”
Even so, the sword he swung wildly cut nothing but air, and the blade slipped right out of his hand and flew away.
Ah… somehow, seeing a weapon slip right out of someone’s hand feels oddly relatable.

Wait, no, that’s not the point.
“Enough! You idiot!”
Finally losing his patience, the commander stepped in and cut the rat down in a single blow.
“What do you think you’re doing, being protected by Saint-sama whom you are supposed to protect! Have some shame! And to waste the opening she created for you! Get back! You’re in the way!”
“Hieee.”
Told this, the soldier’s legs gave out. He ended up scooting backward on his butt.
Yeah. He probably can’t fight in that state, so this might be for the best.
As I scanned the battlefield, Shizuku-san was steadily cutting down the Yellow Scorpi. She’d probably be fine if I just waited a bit.
Next to me, Lu-chan kept feeding Mana to Mashiro-chan, who in turn kept turning the cacti into stumps.
Well, I call them stumps, but they still have legs, so they’re pretty strange-looking stumps…
The cacti also seemed to realize Lu-chan was the source of the Wind Blades, because they kept firing paralyzing poison needles at us, but they were all being blocked by my Barrier.
She hasn’t drawn her bow yet, so for now, there’s no need to worry about Friendly Fire.
Chris-san was also cutting through the swarm of lizards without any trouble.

Yeah, everything seems okay for now.
Now, if only the soldiers could somehow handle this swarm of rats, which didn’t seem very strong…
Well… how should I put it? The casualties were horrific.
I understand that Chris-san and Shizuku-san are in a league of their own, but I still really don’t like watching people collapse right in front of me.
It takes a surprising amount of concentration to keep an eye on Chris-san and Shizuku-san’s situations, place Defense Walls in the appropriate spots, and then heal the Dalha soldiers who are being taken down one after another.
After about an hour—I’m not sure of the exact time—just as we had finished defeating about 70 to 80 percent of the monsters, a messenger came rushing over from the town.
“It’s an emergency! From the sea! Monsters are attacking. It’s a Sea Serpent, the one that’s supposed to be in the southern sea!”
“What?!”
The commander shouted upon hearing this.
Ah, right, that was the reason the trading ships from Green Cloud couldn’t pass, wasn’t it?
“How many?”
“Just one. We believe it’s most likely a stray.”

“Damn it. You, you, and your squad, head to the port! We’ve managed to handle things here thanks to Saint-sama.”
“Yes!”
With that, a portion of the unit withdrew.
Huh? Should I go too?
“Fiene-dono! We shall head to the port as well. We’ve already taken down this many. This side should be fine now.”
“Come to think of it, is that Sea Serpent strong?”
“It’s a Calamity-Class monster that breathes blasts of water.”
“Eh? That’s bad! Let’s hurry.”
And so, leaving the desert battlefield in their hands, we hurried toward the port.
Oh, and of course, I’m being carried by Chris-san in a princess carry.
I mean, it’s faster this way.
Besides, I’ve somehow gotten used to it, so it doesn’t even feel all that embarrassing anymore.
