Volume 7, Chapter 25 – Rescue Operation

Leaving the immobile Sea Serpent behind, we headed off to help with the rescue efforts.

Eh? You’re saying we shouldn’t just leave it there?

Now, now. We have no way of defeating it, so there’s nothing we can do.

It was bleeding from where Shizuku-san landed a blow, so it’ll probably just run out of strength eventually, right?

Besides, I made some adjustments to the Barrier so that air could only flow from the inside out, while water could only flow from the outside in.

However, since I can’t use the Barrier right now, I’ll have to make sure I can deploy a Defense Wall immediately.

Now then, because the Sea Serpent fired its Water Breath indiscriminately, the area around the port is a complete mess.

Most of the moored ships have been destroyed, and the port buildings are almost entirely demolished. Furthermore, many of the buildings within the range of the breath have also suffered significant damage.

“Chris-san and Shizuku-san, please help the people trapped under the rubble. I’ll treat the injured. Lu-chan, can you use Spirit Power to locate anyone buried under the rubble?”

“Yes. Leave it to me.”

“I leave it to you.”

“Yes! I can do it!”

Everyone gave their response and began their respective tasks.

Lu-chan and Mashiro-chan searched for the injured, Chris-san and Shizuku-san cleared away the rubble, and I treated the injured.

Yes. I must say, that was some excellent leadership on my part. Even so, I still ended up with free time on my hands.

Hmm. I wish more people would help…

Unfortunately, the soldiers of Dalha haven’t arrived at the scene yet.

Judging by how they’re gathering at the port, it looks like they’re trying to deal with the Sea Serpent.

No, I’d actually prefer it if they just left it alone for now.

“Fiene-sama.”

“Ah, yes. Healing!”

And so, we diligently dug through the rubble and healed the injured.

“A-a-ah, it can’t be… Saint-sama… Oh, God is great—”

“You can pray later, so please evacuate to somewhere safe. It’s dangerous here with all this rubble.”

“Y-yes.”

I understand how they feel, but I’d really appreciate it if they’d stop trying to pray every single time.

“We are short-handed.”

“Should I go and ask the soldiers for help after all?”

“Fiene-sama. This injured person, please.”

“Ah, yes. Healing!”

Hmm. It really seems difficult to leave. Just as I was wondering what to do…

“”Saint-sama!””

Those voices belonged to Sara-san and Khalid-san. Weren’t they supposed to be at the city walls?

“Saint-sama! I am glad to see you are safe.”

Sara-san said this while her muscles twitched.

“Sara-san, Khalid-san, why are you here?”

“Immediately after hearing the report of the Sea Serpent’s appearance, we saw all of you racing toward the port at incredible speed and rushed to follow. More importantly, Saint-sama, we must defeat the Sea Serpent quickly!”

I see. Khalid-san found us and brought Sara-san along to chase after us.

“No. The Sea Serpent can no longer exit my Barrier. Therefore, rescuing the injured takes priority right now.”

“What! You have sealed the Sea Serpent! As expected of Saint-sama. Then I shall inform the soldiers at once. Princess Sara, please remain by Saint-sama’s side.”

“Yes.”

With that, Khalid-san ran off toward the soldiers who were keeping watch over the Sea Serpent at the port.

“Saint-sama. I will help as well.”

“Sara-san?”

“I may not look it, but I am an Earth Attribute Mage. My Level isn’t all that high, but I’m good at this sort of thing.”

Oh, that’s reassuring.

“Then, please. It looks like there are people trapped under that building over there; could you handle it?”

“Leave it to me!”

Saying so with a beaming smile, her muscles twitched again.

She marched over to the building I pointed at, chanted a spell, then placed her hand on the pile of rubble.

“Haaaaaaaaaa!”

With that shout, Sara-san lifted the entire mass of rubble through sheer brute force.

“Huh?”

Since the rubble, which should have been scattered, was sticking together, I could tell that it was likely Shaping Magic, one of the Earth Magic spells.

But… how should I put this?

Um… no… right, that’s it. Just what kind of muscles does she have?

Wait, that’s not the point!

I hurriedly slid under the rubble Sara-san had lifted. There, one, two, three children and their mother were lying there, all covered in blood.

“H-h-help…”

The smallest girl among them still seemed conscious. Was she about five years old?

“It’s okay. I’ve come to save you.”

I said with a smile, picked up two of the children and carried them out to the street, then evacuated the mother and the remaining child.

“All together, Healing!”

Wrapped in the light of Healing Magic, all four of their wounds were healed in an instant.

“A-a-ah…”

The child looked at me with wide, surprised eyes, and then, upon seeing Sara-san holding up the rubble, she simply fainted.

Ah… yeah. Right. That would be pretty shocking.

“Sara-san, thank you. It’s okay now.”

When I told her that, Sara-san returned the rubble to its original place.
