Volume 7, Chapter 26 – The Zombie Invasion

After a while, the Sea Serpent finally ran out of strength. It was a rather anticlimactic ending, but apparently, even monsters die if they can’t breathe.

Afterward, we recovered the Sea Serpent floating in the sea.

Since they wanted the Sea Serpent’s materials—though we didn’t really know what for—we sold all of them except the magic stone to Emir Hilar-san at a fair price.

The scales were quite hard; I wonder if they’ll make armor or shields out of them?

I can only hope that this will reduce the number of people who die making suicidal charges against the Yellow Scorpi.

Eh? You’re asking if I’m really taking money while people are in a dire situation because of monsters?

Hey, come on. We worked for it too.

Besides, we rescued the people attacked by the Sea Serpent, and we treated their injuries.

Furthermore, in the desert battle, most of the monsters were defeated by Chris-san, Shizuku-san, and Lu-chan.

Since I’m just a pretend Saint, I don’t provide my services to everyone for free. I make sure to charge the wealthy and those in power properly.

Oh, right. For some reason, all of the Sea Serpent’s EXP went to me.

I thought it would go to Chris-san since she landed the finishing blow.

And so, after spending such a hectic day, we returned to the hotel absolutely exhausted.

◇ ◇ ◇

It was just as we had finished dinner and were about to head to bed.

“Saint-sama! Saint-sama!”

Along with a man’s panicked voice, there was a violent knocking at our door.

“Fiene-sama. I shall handle this.”

Saying so, Chris-san, with her sword at her hip, headed toward the door. Without opening it, she demanded:

“Who goes there! Saint Fiene Argentata-sama is currently resting!”

“M-my apologies! I am Majid, a messenger of the Dalha Garrison, sent by the orders of Hilar-sama! A massive army of Undead is advancing from the Western Desert! Moreover, even the monsters we were supposed to have defeated during the day have become Zombies and are swarming our town. Please! Please lend us your strength!”

Hmm? This feels awfully familiar.

“…Are there any Giant Roaches?”

“Eh? N-no. This area is a desert, so the existence of Giant Roaches has not been confirmed.”

“Understood. I shall certainly convey this to Fiene-sama. Withdraw.”

“Yes, sir!”

With that, the messenger seemed to withdraw.

Chris-san lingered for a moment, checking for any lingering presence, before finally returning to us.

“Fiene-sama. This situation is the same as it was in Airoll.”

“You’re right. Then let’s just wipe them all out with Purification Magic from here, like last time.”

“Nay, wait a moment.”

Just as I was about to cast Purification Magic, Shizuku-san stopped me.

Somehow, Shizuku-san had already finished changing into her combat clothes.

“Eh?”

“This is far too similar to the situation in Airoll. There’s no way this many Undead could appear unless someone is deliberately creating them.”

“Fiene-sama. I believe it is as Shizuku-dono says.”

“Meaning?”

“That the monster attack during the day may have been orchestrated.”

“And that the attack on Airoll and this attack on Dalha may be the work of the same culprit.”

“What?”

I hadn’t thought of that, but indeed, when put that way, the situations are far too identical.

“The enemy is likely a Necromancer. If that’s the case, then they’re exactly the kind of opponent Fiene-sama excels against, and you won’t have any trouble dealing with them.”

“And if we can capture them now, we may discover the connection to Airoll.”

Oh! I see! That’s exactly right.

Rеаd οո KatRеaⅾіոɡСаfе

“Alright. Then, let’s go! Huh? But where do we go?”

“They should be in the Western Desert. No matter how skilled a Necromancer may be, they have to be near the corpses to create Undead.”

“Understood! Then let’s go!”

“Ah! Wait for me! I’m coming too!”

“Yes. Lu-chan, you come along as well.”

“U-um. What about me?”

“Err, Sara-san, could you stay here?.”

“…Yes.”

And so, we leaped out of our hotel room and ran through the night of Dalha toward the West Gate.

Of course, I wasn’t running myself—I was being carried in a princess carry by Chris-san.
