Volume 7, Chapter 41 – Surrounded

After crossing the desert over the course of about a week, the town of Izar finally came into view.

Despite being a border port town, it was still the same small harbor town—but one thing had changed dramatically.

Yes, a long line of soldiers stood waiting outside the town.

“Halt! You there, Defiled, and the Fake Saint who conspires with them!”

The one shouting was Kamil-san, the Emir of Izar. Standing beside him was Nahid-san, who had once served as our escort.

“Sigh. The people here are the same, too.”

“To think there are many whose lives were saved by Fiene-sama, yet they are so ungrateful!”

“Fiene-dono, they’re behind us as well. It may finally be time to steel ourselves.”

Lu-chan also had her bow in hand and was in a combat stance.

To the left was a cliff facing the sea, in front were the soldiers of Izar, and behind were the soldiers who had chased us from Eibra.

To the right was the desert, but we would likely be surrounded immediately.

“Kuh. Barrier.”

For now, I cast a Barrier to protect the Luma.

The soldiers in front and behind gradually closed the distance, and eventually, we were completely surrounded.

“Now, there is no escape! Drop your weapons and surrender!”

“Kamil-san. Do you also call the Luma the Defiled?”

“Silence! You Fake Saint! For one rejected by the Holy Sword Lufiqar to claim to be a Saint! How dare you deceive us!”

No… the thing is, that Holy Sword Lufiqar is currently hanging at my waist.

Not only was this Lufiqar unable to be put into Storage, but like the other Holy Swords, no one but I could hold it.

So even though it’s obviously a complete waste of a treasure, I’ve ended up carrying it around with me.

“Now, release this Barrier! Do you not care what happens to the Defiled in Izar?”

Um… isn’t that completely something a villain would say?

Besides, if I release the Barrier, there will be no future for the 2,000-plus Luma who gathered because they believed in us.

At worst, it’s possible they could be massacred right before my eyes.

Ah… how should I put this? Yeah… why do I have to save people like this?

“I guess it can’t be helped…”

It was just as I was finally steeling myself.

Suddenly, flames rose from the town of Izar.

“W-what is happening!”

“It’s an emergency! Those White Moon bastards have joined forces with the Defiled and are running wild through the town!”

“What!? I told you to keep a strict watch!”

“The thing is, those White Moon bastards dispatched additional warships!”

“What? Do they intend to go to war? Gah! Repel them!”

“B-but! The chaos in town!”

“It can’t be helped! Nahid! Go suppress the chaos in town!”

“Yes, sir!”

With that, Nahid-san took part of the troops and headed into town.

“What is the meaning of this?”

“Most likely, our kingdom’s Intelligence Agents stationed throughout the Yellow Planet caught wind of what happened and secretly called for reinforcements. If so, they should have arranged ships to transport the Luma as well.”

Oh, wow. The White Moon Kingdom’s Intelligence Agents are incredible.

“Which means, we just have to break through this encirclement and reach the port, right?”

“That is true, but going with this many people…”

That was certainly true. Moreover, it seems the town is in total chaos right now…

As I looked around, deep in thought, my eyes landed on ships flying the White Moon Kingdom’s flag out at sea.

That’s it! I’ve got an idea!

“Fiene-sama? What is it?”

“Um, I want to move the people here to those transport ships, but do you know which ship is the right one?”

“Eh? From here? How?”

“Yes. I think we can just build a bridge through the sky and have everyone walk across it.”

“Eh?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you see. We’re currently in a slightly high place, right? So I thought I could extend a Defense Wall from here to the location of the ships to serve as a foothold, and then have them walk on top of it.”

I remember that, back in my previous world, some great person once split the sea to make a path.

I don’t know how to split the sea, but I should be able to do something like build a bridge.

“Can you really make a Defense Wall that long?”

“Yes. I think it can probably reach as far as those ships floating offshore.”

“That distance? Ah, looking closely, they are indeed flying the flag of the White Moon Kingdom…”

Rеad оո ΚatRеadіոɡСafе

“I don’t think we’ll get anywhere just staying here and protecting them. So, Chris-san, could you deliver a message to that ship?”

“Understood. Shizuku-dono, Lumia, I leave Fiene-sama to you.”

“Of course.”

“Leave it to me.”

“Alright then, Defense Wall!”

I created an absurdly long Defense Wall, turning it into a path.

Even though it was an invisible, transparent path, Chris-san sprinted across it without a moment’s hesitation.

“Wha!? Someone’s running through the sky!?”

Shocked cries erupted from the soldiers surrounding us.

“W-what are you doing! Shoot them down!”

Snapping back to their senses at Kamil-san’s furious roar, the soldiers nocked their arrows—but in the very next instant, Shizuku-san shattered their bows, and they collapsed unconscious in the blink of an eye.

“I won’t let you. Besides, if the Luma hostages are fighting in town, I have no reason to hold back.”

While the soldiers were distracted by the rampaging Shizuku-san, Chris-san’s figure gradually shrank until she was no bigger than a bean.
