Volume 1, Chapter 3 – Vampire Attack

I’m being jostled around in a wagon.

Not exactly like I’m being carted off as livestock or anything.

The knights were kind enough to let me ride along in their supply wagon.

Even though I’m a Vampire, my Level is only 1 since I just created my character.

There’s no way I can keep up with the high-Level knights.

Mostly a stamina issue.

So, while riding in the wagon, I decided to ask Chris-san—aka “Kukkoro-san”—about things like menus and Status.

“Chris-san. How do you open the AnnyOn menu?”

“??? AnnyOn? Menu? Is that… a word from your homeland, Fiene-sama?”

I wondered if Chris-san might be an NPC, but she felt far too human for one.

“W-well then, how do you check your Status?”

“If you mean Status, you can check it once you receive a Class at a temple. Do you not yet have a Class, Fiene-sama?”

“No. Actually, I don’t have one yet.”

“I see. My apologies, but in our country, temples where one can receive a Class are only found in the royal capital. We’ll make arrangements, but for now, please bear with your current state.”

“No, thank you very much.”

After expressing my gratitude, I asked about something that had been on my mind.

“By the way, about the town…”

“The port town we are heading to is called Zarabia. It’s not a very large town, but it’s where our Fourth Squad is stationed.”

See? She even answers things I didn’t ask, and without any contradictions.

An NPC couldn’t do that. The mystery only deepens.

After about half a day of being carried along “dona dona” style, the sun began to set. 1 “Dona dona” references a folk song about a calf being carried away to slaughter; in Japanese, it’s often used humorously to describe being transported helplessly, like livestock.

“Fiene-sama, we will be camping here for the night.”

Looks like we’re camping out again.

I should have brought Mofumofu with me.

But no use crying over spilled milk.

I’ll obediently do as I’m told.

However, it’s already the second day since I logged into AnnyOn.

I feel like I should’ve been forcibly logged out by now…

I’m being treated like a complete guest.

Judging from our conversations so far, it seems they see me as some kind of young lady from a good family.

I guess this is also an effect of my Beautiful Looks.

Glad I spent those 10 points on it.

“Fiene-sama. Please, have this.”

“Thank you.”

Dried meat and vegetable soup with hard bread.

Not exactly delicious, but it can’t be helped. Well, I guess this is just how military rations are.

I then entered the tent the knights had set up for me and said goodnight. I’m sharing a tent with Chris-san.

My body’s female, even if what’s inside isn’t.

Wrapped in a blanket, I fell asleep almost instantly.

Then, I was awakened by a sudden explosion and angry shouts.

“Attack! Vampires! He’s here—!”

Huh? There’s a Vampire here too… but am I okay?

While pondering such trivial matters, I checked my surroundings and noticed Chris-san, who had been sleeping next to me, was gone.

Looks like she already ran out to intercept.

From outside the tent, I could hear the sounds of blows landing, the groans of the knights, and Chris-san’s pained voice.

—Wait, aren’t the knights getting completely overwhelmed?

This is bad. If the knights are wiped out, this comfortable journey will come to an end.

So I reluctantly decided to step outside the tent to fight, still wrapped in my blanket.

I mean, it’s chilly.

Can’t be helped.

Besides, my Skill Allocation is specialized against clergy and Vampires.

Any ordinary Vampire should go down in one hit from my max-Level Holy Magic.

Alright, here goes.

When I stepped out of the tent, it was quite a disaster.

About ten knights were lying battered and covered in blood. In front of me was Chris-san sitting on her rear, with an unusually handsome man standing before her.

He had golden hair, golden slit-like pupils resembling those of a cat or snake, slightly pointed ears, and fangs peeking from the corner of his mouth.

Ah, so this is the Vampire they were talking about.

The Vampire was looking down at Chris-san with a relaxed expression.

In response, Chris-san’s chest armor was destroyed, and she was using her right hand to cover her chest while looking up at the man from her seated position. Her sword seemed to have fallen from her hand, as her left hand was on the ground, empty.

Th-this is! Isn’t this the legendary “kukkoro” scene?!

Wow… what a sight—wait, no. I have to help.

Alright, he hasn’t noticed me yet. Now’s the time to—

“Fiene-sama? Why did you come out?!”

Ugh, you ruined it. You damn kukkoro idiot.

“Oh my? Why is someone like you with such people?”

“Well, you could say it’s just… circumstances.”

“Very well. It’s time for my meal, so I’ll entertain you later.”

“Haa…”

“Fiene-sama! Please escape!”

No, no. What good would escaping alone do? I don’t even know where the town is.

While I was thinking this, the Vampire man approached Chris-san.

“Kuh… I will not become a thrall of a Vampire. Kill me now.”

Hmm, what a shame.

Ah, but is this also a type of “kukkoro”?

Wait, no, no. I have to help.

Let’s see, I’ll just hit him with Holy Purification Magic.

The next moment, a pure white light rose from the Vampire’s feet, illuminating the surroundings as if it were daytime.

“Guaaaaaaaah!”

The Vampire man let out a tremendous scream.

Just like I thought, you can activate magic just by vaguely focusing on what you want.

Still, it’s really bright.

And his screams are loud. Please quiet down soon.

“Wh-what? How… why do you have that…”

After a while, the Vampire man vanished, leaving behind a pretty fitting last line.

Well, the first boss wouldn’t be that strong anyway, so an easy win is to be expected.

“Wh-wh-wh-wh…”

Chris-san could only utter “wh-” sounds.

The other knights are in pretty bad shape too, so I should heal them.

Heal up, everyone~!

Then, a warm light spread from around me, and the knights’ wounds healed rapidly. Wow, as expected of max-Level Healing Magic.

Good thing no one died!

“Wh-wh-wh-wh…”

Still only uttering “wh-” sounds.

Maybe this was an event where Chris-san and the knights were supposed to die?

Ah, well. Time to sleep.

“Well then, I’m gonna sleep. Goodnight.”

I crawled back into the tent and fell asleep just like that.
