Volume 1, Chapter 4 – Enemy of Mankind

I’m swaying in the wagon again today.

Not like I’m being sold off or anything, but this makes two days in a row riding in a wagon.

Still, the treatment is clearly different from yesterday.

Until yesterday, the knights had been treating me like a young lady they were protecting, but today they saluted me the moment I stepped out of the tent.

Was it because I healed them yesterday? Or because I defeated that Vampire?

Well, it’s probably just part of the event.

“Chris-san, about that magnificent kukk— I mean, what was that Vampire from yesterday?”

“Fiene-sama, thank you for saving us in our moment of danger yesterday. His name was Schwarz. An evil Vampire who made this forest his stronghold. He possessed tremendous power—people even said he might become the next Demon Lord.”

“O-oh. I see. I didn’t know that.”

Right, Demon Lord.

Schwarz, huh… I remember now.

Wasn’t that the character they tried to make me play first?

That bald, shitty game admin—was he seriously trying to make me play a character who gets killed in the first event?

That was close. Good thing I left my Class as Unemployed.

“Originally, we had been dispatched to subdue him. We prepared a considerable amount of Holy Water, and I, as a Holy Knight, was supposed to defeat him with the power of the Holy Sword… but I was caught off guard. However, thanks to Fiene-sama, we were saved. I never imagined we’d make it back unharmed after destroying him.”

“Th-that’s good to hear.”

“But I’ve never seen such powerful Purification Magic and Healing Magic before. To possess such power and still not have obtained a Class… perhaps Fiene-sama truly has the qualities of a Saint?”

“No, no, nothing like that.”

Well, first of all, I’m a Vampire.

“But with Fiene-sama here, even those evil Vampires are nothing to worry about!”

Hmm, but still, I really can’t believe Chris-san is an NPC.

I guess she wants me to join her knight order or something like that?

“By the way, are Vampires enemies of humans?”

“Yes. Vampires are enemies of all humankind, including not just humans but demi-humans like Elves as well. Therefore, whenever a Vampire is found, they must be subjugated without question. Because they keep sucking blood to create thralls, then use Charm Magic to manipulate people—and before you know it, they take over entire towns. In the worst cases in history, there are even examples of entire countries being taken over. Since they live by sucking blood, they may simply be doing what they must to survive, it’s something we humans can never accept.”

Huh—this is getting pretty serious.

Maybe keeping my Race as Vampire was a mistake?

“But with Fiene-sama here, we can rest easy. With that level of holy power, even the Vampires would flee barefoot.”

“Th-that’s right.”

What should I do? There’s no way I can just say, “I’m a Vampire too.” Seriously… what do I do?
