The readers may have noticed long ago, but Fiene has finally realized that her status is skewed toward the front-line.
○ About Vampires
Vampires are, as the name implies, a race that lives by sucking the blood of others. According to Chris-san, they are the enemy of all humanity, including demi-humans (see Volume 1, Chapter 4).
・Weak to holy attribute attacks.
・Turn to ash when exposed to sunlight.
・Have vertically elongated pupils (like snakes or cats).
・Become stronger at night, and are therefore naturally nocturnal.
・Can turn into bats and blend into the dark night.
・Unleash terrifying attacks manipulating shadows and blood.
Reαԁ оո КatRеаԁіոɡСafе
・Increase their thralls by sucking blood.
・Use Charm to turn people into thralls.
Additionally, newborn Vampires have pupils no different from those of humans. However, once they awaken by sucking blood and creating thralls, their eyes change into the vertical slits of a cat or snake. It is said that Vampires cannot survive without feeding on blood, and because they inevitably give in to that urge and sink their fangs into a human’s neck to create a thrall, virtually all Vampires end up with vertical pupils (see Chapter 32).
○ About Slaves
Slavery is illegal in both the White Moon Kingdom and the Blue Star Republic; both possession and trade are severely punished. In the White Moon Kingdom, slave trading is punishable by death (see Chapter 7).
○ About the Enslavement Curse Mark
A terrifying curse that carves a mark into the target’s body, causing them to unconditionally obey the commands of the one designated as their master. Due to its extreme danger and the lack of any known method of dispelling it, it is classified as Forbidden Magic and is supposed to be banned and strictly regulated in every country, though it seems to persist in the underworld even to this day.
In the past, only the legendary Great Saint succeeded in dispelling it, making Fiene the second person to do so (Chapter 4). Apparently, it becomes possible to dispel the curse once the Holy Magic skill level reaches 7.
○ About Enchanting
Magic can be imbued into gemstones, metals, and certain monster materials (such as magic stones). The type and quality of the material determine what kinds of magic can be imbued into it, how powerful those enchantments can be, and how many times the item can be reused. Materials that are easy to use and allow for high-level enchanting are extremely expensive and rare.
Furthermore, the person performing the enchantment must be able to use that specific magic. For example, to create a magic item that can treat Mummy Disease, both Enchant and Healing Magic must be at skill level 4, and appropriately expensive materials must be used.
Because the cost of raising skills is high, many magic items are made by Elemental Mages who can no longer fight on the front lines, who make a modest living in their second act by crafting them (see Chapter 10).
As a means of gaining EXP to raise her skill levels, Fiene carries around a large number of pebbles and endlessly repeats the cycle of: Enchantment Appraisal → enchanting them with Purification Magic → throwing them away.
○ Demon Lord Alert
The appearance of the Demon Lord is vaguely foretold through ambiguous divine revelations received by priests and shrine maidens across the world. Those revelations are then combined with data gathered independently by each nation regarding monster activity.
None: At this time, the possibility of the Demon Lord’s appearance is low.
Advisory: There is a possibility that Demon Lord Eggs are being born in various places. Beware of monster aggression.
Pre-Alert: High possibility that Demon Lord Eggs are gaining power. Prepare for an increase and aggression in monsters.
Alert: High possibility that the Demon Lord has been established. Each country must hurry preparations for survival.
Decisive Battle Alert: The invasion by the Demon Lord begins. Humanity must join hands to deal with the threat.
Incidentally, because Fiene unconsciously buried Schwarz, the alert level was lowered by one stage (see Chapter 12).
○ Blue Star Republic
Reαԁ оո KаtRеaⅾіոɡСafe
A country that adopts a republican system where the president is chosen by election. It is a republic whose people absolutely adore Saints. Just Fiene, a Saint Candidate, traveling through the country was enough to throw the entire nation into an uproar. It seems they have something of a Saint complex, as no Saint has ever emerged from their country, even going back to the days before it became a republic.
○ About Techniques and Magic Associated with Skills
Within a skill, there are things like techniques that can be used within that scope. For example, the Healing Magic skill includes Healing Magic to cure injuries and Antidote Magic to cure poison.Similarly, Archery has a technique called “Sure Hit.” If successfully activated, the shot is guaranteed to land unless the target manages to evade it.
However, if these are activated while the level is insufficient, there is a fair chance they will misfire. In particular, “Sure Hit” is said to often activate unconsciously and shoot allies, and is feared as “Friendly Fire” (see Chapter 17).
○ Miasma
The details of where it comes from or why it exists remain unknown, but prolonged exposure can cause living beings to fall ill, go mad, or become twisted in nature. It seems the magic stones inside monsters are contaminated by this miasma. Apparently, Purification Magic and Flower Spirits can purify it (see Chapters 22 and 37).
○ Spirit Tree
A tree that gives birth to spirits. It is said that one can only form a contract with a spirit at the moment they are born from this tree.
○ Spirits
Supernatural beings that cannot be seen by human eyes.
As contract spirits, Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind are the most common, followed by the rarer Light, Dark, and Life spirits. There are even spirits of grass and trees.
Among them, Flower Spirits are special; legendary beings capable of purifying miasma, yet Fiene casually went and contracted one anyway.
Spirits evolve in the order of: Young Spirit → Lesser Spirit → Intermediate Spirit → Greater Spirit → Elder Spirit. Under normal growth, it takes about a thousand years to become a Greater Spirit.
Spirits gain a physical form by being summoned, but if they are attacked while materialized, they can be wounded or even die. As a rule, a wounded spirit cannot be summoned until the wound has healed.
Materialized spirits can wield great power by borrowing the mana of their contractor, and spirits grow by exerting this power.
(See Chapter 19, 37, and the Final Chapter)
○ Maiden of Blossoming Grace
A title given to those who contract with a Flower Spirit. They are entrusted with the mission of traveling the lands of the world to purify miasma and defilement. Fiene was gifted the Flower Maiden’s Staff by the Spirit Tree.
○ Existence Evolution
The act of evolving into a higher race by meeting specific conditions. Elves can evolve into High Elves when their contract spirit becomes a Greater Spirit. Vampires evolve into Vampire Nobles (see Chapter 37).
