Chapter 11: A Little Coaxing, and Chi Xingcun Will Return to His Side
Chapter 11: A Little Coaxing and Chi Xingcun Will Come Back to Him
Chi Xingcun and Xue Tianye arrived at the library together.
He watched the person across from him, head down, studying intently, and started to think back. In his past life, Xue Tianye had often cared about him and was the only one who would actively criticize and educate him when he acted willfully. It's just that he'd never taken Xue Tianye seriously back then, and listening to Xue Tianye just annoyed him.
Now that he'd been reborn, Chi Xingcun thought, only Xue Tianye truly cared about him. Xue Tianye might just be his only friend.
Just then, Xue Tianye looked up and smiled at Chi Xingcun.
"What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Chi Xingcun snapped out of it and grinned goofily. "No."
After leaving the library, the two headed to the cafeteria together.
On the way, Xue Tianye brought it up:
"You've changed a lot lately. Something going on?"
Chi Xingcun blinked, looking puzzled, as if he had no idea what he meant. "Nothing. I just suddenly got the urge to study. I used to chase after Fu Chenzhan all the time—I think I was being an idiot."
Xue Tianye studied Chi Xingcun, knowing he probably wasn't telling the truth, but he just smiled along.
He'd always known Chi Xingcun came from a loaded family. Even though his own family background wasn't bad, compared to a big-money family like the Chis, it was nowhere close.
A lot of people made fun of Chi Xingcun for pining after Fu Chenzhan, but that was only because there was nothing else they could trash him for.
The first time Xue Tianye noticed Chi Xingcun was being left out, and that he was pining after someone, he'd wanted to look out for him, but every time he tried, he got shut down.
But today, Chi Xingcun had actually come and sat next to him on his own.
And he'd ignored Fu Chenzhan.
Guess he wasn't wrong—Chi Xingcun really was a good kid.
Honestly, the first time he met Chi Xingcun, he'd thought the kid seemed well-behaved, so everything else he did was, in his eyes, just a one-time mistake.
......
After they ate, the two headed back to the dorms together. At the dorm entrance, they ran into the two rich kids from Fu Chenzhan's class. These two usually ran in the same circle as Chi Xingcun and had known him since grade school.
"Oh, Young Master, what a coincidence running into you."
"Long time no see. How have you been?"
These two had purposely waited here after class. They hadn't seen Chi Xingcun in a while, and honestly, they were getting bored.
Chi Xingcun looked at them, didn't say anything, and was about to walk past when they blocked him.
"What's up? Why are you ignoring us? We didn't do anything."
"Yeah, we've got something to say to you."
The two blinked, putting on innocent looks.
One was named Lin Fengqin, the other Lin Suiyu. They were cousins from the Lin family, similar in personality and looked a bit alike.
"Tomorrow night at the Jinye party, you've gotta come. We've been asking you for over a month, and you haven't even replied."
"..." Chi Xingcun was done. Inviting him for a month? More like calling a dog. Had they ever shown him any respect?
Chi Xingcun used to think of them as friends, until his identity came out. He went to them, asking for help getting back at the True Young Master, but they just insulted him and kicked him out.
"Get revenge for you? Who the hell do you think you are?"
"We always thought you were dumb, but we didn't think you actually weren't the real young master. You think anyone still treats you like a human now?"
"Get lost. You don't seriously think anyone in this circle sees you as a friend, do you?"
"I never thought you deserved Fu Chenzhan."
When it came to him and Fu Chenzhan, they'd only ever watched from the sidelines. They'd never respected him.
Actually, a lot of the rumors about him and Fu Chenzhan at school were started by them.
What pissed Chi Xingcun off wasn't that they wouldn't help him get back at Xie Yean, but that they'd never really seen him as a friend.
He was so disappointed in them he didn't want to say a word. He turned to walk away, but the two tried to block him again.
Xue Tianye stepped in front of him, giving the two a warning glare, and pulled him away.
Watching him leave, the two were stunned for a second, then super, super pissed.
In order to be worthy enough to be with Fu Chenzhan, and to avoid being mocked by people in the circle, Chi Xingcun had always had to please them, smiling like a flower. When had he ever ignored them like this?
Chi Xingcun had known Fu Chenzhan since kindergarten. He had always liked Fu Chenzhan, and after learning that they were betrothed to each other, day by day, he had completely come to see himself as Fu Chenzhan's future spouse.
When the two were together, he needed Fu Chenzhan's help with everything—having Fu Chenzhan take care of him and wait on him. He was extremely pampered.
Not to mention that Fu Chenzhan usually helped Chi Xingcun pick out clothes, clean up after him, pour him water, brush his teeth, and so on. When they went to and from class together, Fu Chenzhan would prepare Chi Xingcun's textbooks and pack his bag, and Chi Xingcun's backpack was always carried by Fu Chenzhan.
So, when he saw Chi Xingcun in the classroom, Fu Chenzhan instinctively reached out to take his bag, but Chi Xingcun dodged him.
Chi Xingcun kept his head down, his eyelids flickering unnaturally.
"Let's go, class monitor."
He looked up, acting as if nothing had happened, and cheerfully pushed Xue Tianye out as they walked past Fu Chenzhan.
He didn't say a single word to Fu Chenzhan.
......
The topic "Chi Xingcun dumped Fu Chenzhan" quickly topped the school forum.
Someone rewrote the history between Fu Chenzhan and Chi Xingcun into a short story, and the ending they wrote was—
Bad ending.
"No way... unrequited love... is it really going to end badly?"
"Chi Xingcun chased after him for so long, and Fu Chenzhan didn't react at all. Isn't a bad ending only natural?"
"What do you think—does Fu Chenzhan actually like Chi Xingcun or not? Saying he doesn't makes sense; he always has a cold face and has never smiled at Chi Xingcun. But saying he doesn't also doesn't add up, because every time Chi Xingcun orders him around, he complies with everything."
"Forget about what actually happened. No one can keep enduring cold treatment forever."
"It sounds like everything is Fu Chenzhan's fault. Isn't it normal for Fu Chenzhan to treat someone he was forced into an arranged marriage with badly?"
"Isn't it just Chi Xingcun being pathetic for insisting on liking Fu Chenzhan?"
Fu Chenzhan knew what "be" meant.
He also read many of the discussions on the forum.
He reported every post that rubbed him the wrong way.
As for the "be" ending? He didn't give it a second thought, because he was well aware—Chi Xingcun was a drama queen, and this time he just threw a bigger fit. A little sweet-talking, and it'd blow over.
Just butter him up a little, and Chi Xingcun would come running back.
It had always been like this.
