Chapter 33: Fu Chenzhan Snatches His Wife in the Dead of Night
Chi Xingcun leaned his head against Qin Liyi's shoulder: "I'm not drinking anymore."
"Alright, no more drinking."
The others felt a bit awkward seeing their intimate posture—after all, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, the legendary sworn brothers, didn't sit like that.
"Are you drunk?"
Qin Liyi said, "A little. You all keep going, don't mind us."
Hearing Qin Liyi say that, the others went back to their games.
Chen Yudong came over, looking concerned: "Need a hand with anything? Just say the word."
Qin Liyi looked up at him with a faint smile: "Thanks, but I'm good for now."
He scooped Chi Xingcun up and said to the others, "I'm taking the young master home. You all enjoy yourselves. We'll catch up another time."
"Sure."
Qin Liyi carried Chi Xingcun into the car. In that short time, Chi Xingcun's cheeks had already turned rosy red.
Just as Qin Liyi was about to sit in the driver's seat, his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw it was Fu Chenzhan calling.
He gave an unreadable smile and answered.
"What's up, Chenzhan?"
Fu Chenzhan didn't beat around the bush: "Is Chi Xingcun at your place?"
Qin Liyi's tone remained as nonchalant as ever: "Nah, we're out having fun."
So he didn't skip his birthday because he was busy—he was out having fun.
"What time will you be home?"
Qin Liyi didn't get what he meant by that.
He meant his own place, not Fu Chenzhan's.
"Not sure, maybe we'll keep going till tomorrow."
With that, he couldn't be bothered to keep talking and hung up.
The car soon pulled up at home. He carried Chi Xingcun inside, shut the door, and laid him on the bed in his second-floor room.
Chi Xingcun wasn't asleep, just groggy. He felt heavy and didn't want to move, so he let Qin Liyi carry him.
Later that night, the two shared a bed, even wearing the same brand of pajamas.
Just then, Qin Liyi, dozing behind Chi Xingcun, was suddenly yanked off the bed and slammed onto the floor.
Qin Liyi hit the ground hard, the impact jolting him awake in pain.
He thought he was sleepwalking, but when he opened his eyes, he saw a tall, imposing figure by the bed. The faint moonlight caught the man's sharp, chiseled features—Fu Chenzhan.
He was instantly wide awake. This was no different from seeing a ghost.
"What are you doing here?"
Chi Xingcun was also stirred awake by the noise. He sat up slowly, but before he could react, someone grabbed his wrist and yanked him forward.
He looked up and saw Fu Chenzhan, his eyes going wide: "You... you..."
Before he could finish, Fu Chenzhan had scooped him up.
He struggled, but Fu Chenzhan's strength was several times his own.
Fu Chenzhan looked down at him, his gaze cold as a serpent's, his thumb tracing his cheek. His voice was icy: "I've come to take my unfaithful wife home."
"Fu Chenzhan!" Chi Xingcun's face was a mix of anger and confusion. What was Fu Chenzhan doing?
Qin Liyi scrambled to his feet, but the moment he stepped forward, Fu Chenzhan's bodyguards slammed him to the ground. His cheek ground against the floor as he glared up at Fu Chenzhan.
"Fu Chenzhan! Are you out of your mind?! What the hell is this in the middle of the night?!"
"Qin Liyi!" Chi Xingcun looked at Qin Liyi in a panic, his voice shaking, then whipped back around. "Fu Chenzhan, what are you doing?! Tell them to let him go!"
Fu Chenzhan watched the worry on the face of the man in his arms with cold detachment, an inexplicable pang hitting his chest—his wife used to look only at him.
But now she ignored him completely, caring only about someone else.
He turned and carried her out, down the stairs, and into the back seat of the car.
As the car pulled away, Chi Xingcun kept struggling.
"Let me go!"
Fu Chenzhan pinned both of Chi Xingcun's wrists with one hand, shifting him so he sat on his lap, back against his chest.
He couldn't help lowering his head to bury his face in Chi Xingcun's shoulder and the curve of his neck.
It had been so long since he'd breathed in this sweet scent.
His cold, ruthless eyes cracked open—his wife still smelled of Qin Liyi.
"Fu Chenzhan, what the hell are you doing right now?"
He raised his eyes. His little wife turned to look at him, tears streaking her face, her eyes full of defiance, fury, and disappointment.
How had everything changed so suddenly?
Fu Chenzhan was drunk on the embrace. His voice came out rough: "Taking you home."
"We're already over!" Chi Xingcun said with agitation.
"The engagement isn't called off yet." Fu Chenzhan's tone turned colder. "I haven't had the chance to tell our parents yet."
"...So what? It's only a matter of time. I won't—"
Before Chi Xingcun could finish, Fu Chenzhan cut him off: "I want to hear you say happy birthday."
From the start of the banquet, Fu Chenzhan had shown no cracks, but his mind had been buzzing, replaying the image of Chi Xingcun wishing him a happy birthday on a loop.
It wasn't until he got into the car to pick up Chi Xingcun that the images and sounds in his head finally faded.
Hearing this, Chi Xingcun's entire body went cold in an instant, his chest constricting so much it was hard to breathe, and he trembled all over.
How could this happen? It was because Fu Chenzhan didn't know about their past life, so he could so casually make such a request.
But he would never tell him again.
"Why do you need to hear it from me? I'm not important to you anyway. You should go hear it from someone else."
Chi Xingcun's voice grew hoarse, his eyes blurred with tears as he tried hard to pretend nothing was wrong.
Fu Chenzhan was quiet for a long moment, his arm still locked tight around Chi Xingcun's waist.
When they got to Fu Chenzhan's other place, he lifted Chi Xingcun out of the car.
Chi Xingcun had been quiet the whole time, but at the door, he suddenly struck Fu Chenzhan hard in the chest, and seizing the moment of surprise, struggled free and dashed out, running wildly.
Chi Xingcun had no idea what Fu Chenzhan was planning to do.
Maybe it was a sudden surge of possessiveness?
He'd done this before. That time, Chi Xingcun had attended a summer camp, had his phone confiscated, and went a whole month without reaching out to him. When they met again, Fu Chenzhan brought him home and kept him trapped there for an entire week, not allowing him to leave.
During that week, Fu Chenzhan was like a different person—clingy and dependent, wanting to be with him every moment.
Fu Chenzhan probably didn't realize it himself, but though his expression remained the same, he never left Chi Xingcun's side.
At the time, Chi Xingcun had just realized he was being confined and felt confused and unhappy, but Fu Chenzhan was so persistent that he eventually gave in.
Besides, back then, he had been happy too. He liked feeling that important to Fu Chenzhan.
But now, he no longer cared for his sudden attention and dependence.
It was as if he were just a toy to him, something to be played with at will.
