Chapter 12: What Kind of People Are These?

"I don't need you to tell me that." Shen Lanxue looked at him calmly. "Once Hechi's feeling better, I'll take him back myself."

Lu Xiuran just smiled at that.

"Then be sure to send me a message when that happens."

Lu Xiuran blinked, looking like he couldn't wait to watch the drama unfold.

What a bunch of weirdos.

Lu Hechi wanted to yank out a strand of his hair and get a paternity test done.

As he thought about it, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He let go of Shen Lanxue's hand and strode over to Lu Xiuran in two steps.

"Little bro, I'm counting on you to look after Mom and Dad for me while I'm gone."

He put on his big-brother act.

With his good hand, he ruffled Lu Xiuran's hair.

After that whole performance,

Not only Lu Xiuran, but even Shen Lanxue was taken aback.

After all, he'd been acting all aloof just a moment ago, and now he was acting like they were best buds.

Without even blinking, Lu Hechi pressed down on his head, gave a sharp tug, and yanked out at least four or five hairs.

Lu Xiuran let out a "hiss" and jumped back a step, glaring at him. "Are you crazy?"

Lu Hechi hid his hand behind his back, all innocent. "What's wrong with caring about you as your big bro? You're young, but you still gotta take care of yourself. Look how thin your hair is—in two years, you'll be bald as a cue ball."

He clicked his tongue like he genuinely felt bad for him.

Lu Xiuran hadn't expected that after losing his memory, he'd become a completely different person—not just more talkative, but more outgoing too.

So this was what he was like before he came back to the Lu family?

Lu Xiuran thought this as he looked Lu Hechi up and down.

After just a car accident, he actually seemed to have this youthful, spirited energy about him.

He remembered that when Lu Hechi came back from abroad, he'd turned icy cold—hardly spoke, didn't make friends.

Even at meals with their parents at the old mansion, he always had a stern, unsmiling face.

"Huh, interesting." Lu Xiuran ignored the pain in his scalp and said, "Bro, enjoy it while you can."

He didn't say more, because Shen Lanxue's cold stare was fixed on him.

After Lu Xiuran left, the sitting room fell quiet.

Lu Hechi sat back down on the sofa, head down, rolling the hairs between his fingers. He felt like that guy was hinting at something with his last words.

"So you yanked his hair out just for that?"

Shen Lanxue sat down beside him.

Lu Hechi nodded. "That guy doesn't look anything like me. Besides, I was Lu Yongjun's son for eighteen years—suddenly having biological parents pop up out of nowhere is just hard to believe."

He knew Shen Lanxue wouldn't lie to him, but he couldn't help thinking—what if? What if it was a mistake?

Lu Hechi tucked away the hairs he'd pulled, planning to find a hospital and run another test.

When Lu Hechi woke up the next day, Shen Lanxue and Little Star were already out. He asked Butler Feng to arrange a driver and took a car to the hospital.

He'd pulled four hairs, which he cunningly split into four batches, packed them with his own, and hit up four different hospitals.

The driver was completely over it by now.

All he knew was that his boss was running around like a madman, going from hospital to hospital—he'd hit every major hospital in Qingjing in a single morning.

"Mr. Lu, where are we headed next?"

Driver Wang's eyes were glazed over. Go ahead, tell me which hospital. I can take it.

Lu Hechi sat in the back seat. "Qing University."

He was going to find Lu Wentang and ask what the hell had happened over these past few years.

The driver snuck a glance at him in the rearview mirror.

The guy was wearing the latest streetwear, head down, playing on his phone with one hand, radiating energy and practically oozing "money."

The poor driver gripped the steering wheel, muttered a "yes," stared straight ahead, hit the gas, and headed for Qing University.

At least they weren't heading to another hospital.

Qing University was in the southern district, surrounded by parks and a zoo—pretty nice area.

The driver pulled up at the north gate.

After getting out, Lu Hechi said, "Uncle Wang, go grab a bite. I'll call you when I'm ready to head back."

The driver nodded. "Alright, Mr. Lu."

It was lunchtime, and students were streaming out of the school gates—all young, and when they spotted the luxury car and the hot guy, they couldn't help craning their necks to look.

At 1.88 meters tall with fair skin, Lu Hechi was so good-looking he seemed to exist on a whole different level from everyone around him.

After the driver left, Lu Hechi walked in through the north gate and called Lu Wentang on the way.

"Hello, who's this?" Lu Wentang's voice crackled through the phone.

"Your brother." Lu Hechi said, "Where are you at right now?"

Lu Wentang paused for a moment. "The campus cafeteria."

Lu Hechi hadn't expected the campus to be this huge. He'd walked at least twenty minutes and still hadn't even caught a glimpse of the cafeteria.

"I'm at..." Lu Hechi glanced around and spotted a building with characters on it right in front of him. "Xingdu Building. Come get me."

Lu Wentang: "..."

After hanging up, Lu Hechi just stood there waiting for her.

At that moment, two girls came walking toward him. The taller one was quite pretty, with long hair flowing behind her, and she smelled faintly of perfume as she got closer.

She asked directly, "Hey, handsome, can I add you on WeChat?"

Lu Hechi stepped back with a polite smile. "Sorry, I'm married."

The girl was clearly shocked.

Her face turned red for a second. "Sorry, I thought you were a student on campus."

With that, she grabbed her friend and hurried off.

Seeing that, the other students who'd been eyeing him backed off, and no one dared come near.

Five more minutes passed.

Lu Wentang finally showed up on her e-scooter, taking her sweet time.

When Lu Hechi saw her, he casually got on the back seat and said, "Find a café, I'm buying."

Lu Wentang revved the scooter and snorted dismissively. "Lu Hechi, I fronted your hospital bills. Don't forget to pay me back."

Lu Hechi was shocked. "?"

Lu Wentang found a café on campus. Whether the coffee was bad or not, it was pretty empty.

But when Lu Hechi saw the prices, he instantly got why it was so empty.

Good lord, the plainest iced Americano was 88 yuan.

Did prices go crazy while he was out? Wasn't the price bureau doing anything about this?

Lu Hechi, who'd just come into money, felt his heart ache.

Lu Wentang ignored him and, with a big wave of her hand, ordered at least four or five new drinks plus several desserts.

Lu Hechi: "...You can actually finish all that?"

Lu Wentang shot him a look. "Bro, you're not gonna be cheap about buying my roommates snacks, right?"

"...Of course not, order whatever you want."

Lu Hechi watched helplessly as she added even more desserts.

After ordering, the two sat down in a corner by the window.

Lu Wentang: "Alright, what did you want to see me about?"

Lu Hechi calmed down as the waiter set the coffee down. He picked up a little spoon and stirred his drink.

"I..." He didn't know how to say it. The seven-year blank in his memory made it impossible to accept everything that had happened.

"Am I really not Mom and Dad's biological kid?" He looked at Lu Wentang, totally lost.

Lu Wentang froze mid-motion.
