Chapter 112: Great Sweetness

Spoiler: Some “h”

Bao Ning was wearing a traditional ruqun, which made things convenient for Pei Yuan. He untied her waistband and quickly pulled away the two panels of the skirt, leaving her in only a pair of white inner trousers. Pei Yuan stared at the trouser legs for a moment, then reached out and simply ripped them apart at the waist. Bao Ning let out a startled cry, watching helplessly as her trousers fell to the floor, revealing her legs just as Pei Yuan had desired.

Bao Ning was both shamed and annoyed. “If you have something to say, just say it! What is the point of tearing my clothes?”

“Tell me how much they cost, and I’ll compensate you.” Pei Yuan licked his lips, glancing at her. “Go back and ask my wife for the money; she’s confiscated all of mine. My funds are a bit tight at the moment, and I can’t produce the silver.”

Bao Ning scolded him, “You’re shameless!”

She hurriedly tried to pick up the discarded skirt to cover her legs, but Pei Yuan pinned her wrist. “Where are you running? Let me look; I haven’t seen enough yet.”

He reached out and stroked her from the bottom up, remarking, “Look at this—so white, so smooth, just like fresh tofu. After one touch, I already want a second.”

Bao Ning stood frozen, subjected to Pei Yuan’s gaze over and over. At first, she managed to hold her ground, but after a while, her toes curled in embarrassment. She had learned her lesson this time; she knew force was useless and she had to use a softer approach. She reached out to tug on Pei Yuan’s sleeve and said coaxingly, “A-Yuan, not here. Let’s blow out the lamp and move somewhere else, alright?”

The window was still open, and a cool night breeze blew in, making Bao Ning shiver.

Pei Yuan watched her for a moment longer, then went to close the window without saying a word. He didn’t blow out the lamp, but returned to carry her toward the bed. Bao Ning leaned her head against his chest, hearing his heartbeat gradually quicken and his breathing grow heavy. She understood what was about to happen and swallowed hard.

Bao Ning remembered that night again. She feared Pei Yuan at times like this—he was like a wolf that never ran out of energy!

As her body hit the soft bedding, Bao Ning’s heart skipped a beat. She grabbed the front of Pei Yuan’s robes, pretending to be concerned. “A-Yuan, you’ve had a very tiring day, and your health hasn’t fully recovered. You shouldn’t overexert yourself. I’ll go call for hot water so you can bathe and go to sleep early!”

“What do you mean ‘not fully recovered’?” Pei Yuan looked at her with a half-smile. “Do you honestly think that’s something I want to hear?”

Bao Ning said seriously, “You were coughing up blood at noon!”

Pei Yuan countered, “If you don’t let me finish what I started tonight, I’ll end up coughing blood again.”

Without waiting for Bao Ning to speak again, he pulled off her shoes and socks and stripped away her upper garments in a few swift motions. With one leg braced against the edge of the bed, he urgently pulled off his own shirt.

Bao Ning ducked under the quilt, nervously trying to negotiate. “Where is that oil from last time? Can we use it again?”

“I threw it away long ago. Using it the first time was enough; there’s no need for a second.” Pei Yuan leaned down, breathing into her ear as he whispered ambiguously, “I have other ways.”

After an indeterminate amount of time, Bao Ning felt her breathing grow frantic and her head spin, as if she were on a boat tossing in a turbulent river. In the final moment, a flash of white light seemed to pass before her eyes, followed by a wave of tingling that left her body utterly strengthless. Forgetting her shame, a soft, lingering moan escaped her lips.

Pei Yuan waved his fingers in front of her eyes before picking up a cloth to wipe her down. “This method is good, isn’t it? Much better than that bottle of oil, and more comfortable too.”

As if deep in thought, he asked, “I don’t think I heard you make a sound like that last time?”

Bao Ning was mortified. “Can you please not put these things out in the open like this? Can’t you be more indirect!”

“I can,” Pei Yuan said, his hand moving down to stroke her lazily and teasingly. He suddenly gave a firm squeeze. “Make that sound a few more times for me. If I’m happy, I’ll stop talking.”

He paused, then added, “Baobao, have you noticed? Your voice right now is even softer than usual—like a cat’s meow, but very joyful…”

Bao Ning pleaded with him, “Take your hand away first…”

Pei Yuan raised an eyebrow. “If the hand goes, something else is going in. Are you ready?”

With a flushed face, Bao Ning was too embarrassed to nod or say yes, so she said, “I’ll go get the soft pillow…”

Pei Yuan’s eyes darkened. “We don’t need that. Let’s try a different position.”

Before Bao Ning could react, Pei Yuan grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into a sitting position. He produced a strip of black cloth from somewhere—perhaps his waistband—and tied it over her eyes.

With her vision suddenly plunged into darkness, Bao Ning panicked slightly and tried to untie it. “Why are you blindfolding me?”

Pei Yuan stopped her, turning her body over so she was face down on the quilt, then lifting her hips. Bao Ning was placed into a kneeling position. She grew even more frightened; she had never encountered this position before, and it felt as though her most private self was being completely exposed. She tried to crawl away.

Pei Yuan grabbed her ankle. “Where are you going? Do you think you can escape? You’re always making such futile efforts.”

He patted her “peach” and said in a low, gentle voice, “Didn’t you say I was too much last time? This time, I’ll be gentle, alright? But I was afraid that if I was too light, it wouldn’t be enough for you, so I came up with this idea. Look, don’t you feel your heart racing? Isn’t it more expectant, more stimulating?”

Bao Ning was distracted by the first half of his sentence and asked with a trembling voice, “Not enough… what?”

Pei Yuan pressed her waist down. “Not enough pleasure.”

In the next instant, Bao Ning felt something press against her, scorching hot. Deprived of her sight, her sense of touch became incredibly sharp, and her body shook with nerves. She heard Pei Yuan let out a grunt as he entered her, saying, “I’ll show you exactly how ‘healthy’ my body is!”

When it was all over, Bao Ning was limp and weak. Pei Yuan had only taken her once—he was only half-full and not entirely satisfied, but he didn’t want to exhaust her further.

He untied the black cloth from her eyes and tossed it onto the floor, only to realize the fabric was soaked through.

Bao Ning’s eyes were also wet. Without a word, she dodged his palm and shrunk into the corner of the bed, wiping tears away with the back of her hand. Seeing her looking so pitiful, Pei Yuan felt a surge of panic. She hadn’t cried last time, so what happened now?

“Baobao?” Pei Yuan called softly, frowning as he moved closer to her. “What’s wrong?”

Bao Ning’s lip trembled, and she covered her face with her hands. After a long while, she squeezed out a single word: “Hurts.”

“I was very gentle this time; how can it hurt this much?” Pei Yuan didn’t believe her. He firmly pulled her hands away, seeing her rosy complexion. Her small face was flushed pink, and her eyes shimmered with moisture like a flower bud covered in dew—she didn’t look like someone in severe pain. Meeting Pei Yuan’s gaze, Bao Ning’s face grew even redder, and she pushed him away, turning her back to him.

Pei Yuan suddenly realized something. “Was it… because it felt too good that you cried?”

He narrowed his eyes, recalling the moment. “Just now, at the very end, I felt things get a lot tighter all of a sudden.”

Pei Yuan was certain of his theory. His panic vanished, replaced by delight. “Oh, it was too intense, so you were teased into tears.”

He pinched her chin and gave it a little shake, tsk-ing. “So useless, really just too useless!”

Bao Ning sat up with a huff, glaring at him in shame and indignation, and began thumping his chest. Pei Yuan grew even happier, laughing loudly as he pulled her into a tight embrace, flipped her over, and gave her bottom a sharp bite.

Bao Ning screamed, clutching her backside. “You smelly rogue!”

Pei Yuan said, “The top is exposed; better cover it up quickly.”

Bao Ning looked down, gasped, and hurriedly covered her chest.

Pei Yuan added, “Now the bottom is exposed again. What shall we do?”

“Scoundrel! Shameless!” Bao Ning scolded him. Giving up on covering herself with her hands, she dove down and wrapped herself tightly in the quilt.

Pei Yuan laughed, circling his arms around her and the quilt together, and fell silent. Bao Ning let out a soft huff. Beneath the covers, she wrapped both arms around one of Pei Yuan’s arms and rested her head on it. This was her favorite position—warm and secure. Pei Yuan closed his eyes with a curve to his lips, his other hand stroking the back of her head as he enjoyed the moment of warmth and comfort.

Bao Ning kept her eyes open, staring at a red flower pattern on the quilt cover as her thoughts drifted.

She asked, “Is it true we won’t be staying here for many more days?”

“I have a residence in the capital that is even larger than this one. It’s in a bustling area, so it will be more comfortable and convenient,” Pei Yuan said. “Tomorrow, I’ll have Wei Meng pick an auspicious date, and we’ll move in.”

Bao Ning gave an “oh.” “We’re moving into a grand mansion. I’m becoming a person of status now.”

As she spoke, Pei Yuan laughed. He lowered his head to nuzzle his nose against her face. Bao Ning, tickled, laughed and dodged, then cupped his face with her hands.

Bao Ning acted as if she didn’t care, speaking in a casual tone. “You’ll be a person of status now, too. You mustn’t pick up those bad habits. You have to always be good to me and never change your heart.”

Pei Yuan looked into her eyes and said nothing.

Bao Ning continued, “When we went to see His Majesty today, I saw many young and beautiful palace maids. I realized then that imperial life seems a bit different from what I imagined. And what His Majesty said—about being born into the imperial family and having many ‘musts.’ A-Yuan, I’m a bit worried. What exactly are those ‘musts’? In the future, will you also face things you ‘must’ do… like the Crown Prince? The Princess Consort he married is his mother’s niece. He doesn’t like his cousin, but he still had to marry her…”

Pei Yuan said, “That’s because he’s useless. He’s neither a scholar nor a warrior, so he can only rely on marrying other people’s daughters to win people over.”

Bao Ning laughed. “Mm, you aren’t useless.”

Pei Yuan made a sound of mock offense. “Why do I feel like you’re insulting me?”

“Am I?” Bao Ning repeated. “What did I just say? I said you aren’t useless.”

Pei Yuan said, “You’re definitely insulting me; you’re being sarcastic.”

“Eh? Why are you so sensitive?” Bao Ning defended herself. “If I really wanted to insult you, would I be so indirect?”

Pei Yuan asked, “Then how would you insult me?”

Bao Ning said, “I would say you’re a smelly pig! Or a stubborn donkey, or a big-bottomed chicken!”

Pei Yuan asked in confusion, “Why a big-bottomed chicken?”

Bao Ning explained patiently, “If a chicken’s bottom is too big, it’ll be caught and roasted for food—roasted chicken tail. So calling you a big-bottomed chicken is an insult.”

Pei Yuan said, “I think your bottom isn’t small either.”

“…” Bao Ning was shocked. “How can you insult me like that!”

“I’m not insulting you; I like your little perky bottom. It’s a compliment.” Pei Yuan rubbed her face, advising her warmly, “Don’t be so sensitive.”

Bao Ning let out a cry of frustration and tried to bite him. Pei Yuan laughed and dodged, asking, “What does chicken tail taste like? I want to try it. When can you roast some for me?”

Bao Ning said angrily, “Stubborn donkey!”

“Mm.” Pei Yuan accepted the name naturally, still stuck on the same question. “When are you roasting chicken bottoms for me? I want the big ones.”

Seven days later was an auspicious date for moving. Bao Ning moved house once again, bringing her two dogs, one sheep, and one not-very-obedient Pei Yuan.

But this time was different from before. Bao Ning stood at the entrance of the residence, looking up at the four gold-leaf characters on the high black plaque— Prince of Jibei Manor .

Bao Ning thought to herself: It’s true. Her status had risen along with Pei Yuan’s. She had become a Princess Consort, with her own official residence, becoming a true mistress of the house.
