Chapter 62

Gu Yihong silently pulled out his phone.

He stared at the slightly intimate photos of Gu Yubai and Lin Xuyan on Gu Yubai’s social media feed, finally realizing he was the only one who had liked and commented on them.

Gu Yihong was shocked: "…What has blinded me?"

Oh, just jealousy. Never mind then.

Gu Yihong felt that, besides the secret of his rebirth, he had nothing else to hide from his elder brother.

Feeling utterly defeated, he asked bluntly, "Big bro, are you really sick? Or did you just notice I was taking medication and decide to mess with me?"

Gu Yubai rolled his eyes at him.

"If I wanted to mess with you, I’d have plenty of opportunities. Why would I need to claim I have psychological issues?"

This wasn't some elaborate scheme Gu Yubai had cooked up.

Now that everything was going smoothly, the only thing weighing on Gu Yubai’s mind was how to wake their adoptive father, Gu Mingliang. Otherwise, life was pretty good.

It was only then that he remembered the medication for psychological issues Gu Yihong had been taking, which he had accidentally discovered after his brother returned from his trip.

He had already consulted a doctor and learned that as long as Gu Yihong had the support he relied on and continued taking his medication, he would eventually recover. At first, Gu Yubai hadn’t understood Gu Yihong’s condition, but later, noticing his brother’s unusual protectiveness towards him, his feelings became complicated.

This was also why he had never directly reprimanded Gu Yihong for his rudeness.

This kid was overly anxious about him. Whether it was Yu Li or Lin Xuyan getting close to him recently, or even if Gu Yubai himself came home an hour late, Gu Yihong would call to grill him about his whereabouts.

If Gu Yubai hadn’t set this up, Gu Yihong would probably never have confessed about his illness and medication.

Coincidentally, Gu Yubai also found his own newfound light sensitivity a bit troublesome.

Their adoptive father was still alive, unlike in their previous life, where he had died in a fire.

Gu Yubai decided that while everything was going well, he might as well take his poor, sickly little brother, Gu Yihong, along to get treatment together!

There was no time to lose.

Gu Yubai asked, "What time is it now?"

Gu Yihong looked puzzled. "Almost eleven. Just in time for lunch at the school cafeteria. Oh, right, I haven’t loaded money onto my meal card yet. I’ll do that today."

Gu Yubai: "We’re not going to school. Let’s go see the doctor first."

Gu Yihong no longer had any reason to doubt his brother was faking illness, because he personally watched Gu Yubai register himself for an appointment as well.

The two brothers queued together, saw the doctor together, and even saw the same psychologist.

Everything seemed normal, except for the psychologist’s peculiar expression when the two of them came out one after another and asked each other about the reasons for their conditions.

With a sidelong glance, Gu Yubai knew Gu Yihong’s excuse—psychological trauma from their adoptive father’s car accident—was fake. Coincidentally, he had used the same excuse, which was also fake.

By the time they left the clinic, it was already three in the afternoon, and the school cafeteria had long since closed.

Gu Yubai took Gu Yihong to a hot pot restaurant at a mall near the school. After eating, it was already past four, and by the time they returned to school, it was nearly five. After parking the car, the two brothers went straight to the meal card top-up counter, where the staff was, as expected, still there.

They queued up and topped up their cards.

No need for dinner. The brothers’ dormitories were in different directions, so after walking together for a while, they naturally went their separate ways.

As soon as Gu Yubai reached his dormitory building, he saw a black car parked by the bridge.

Someone was leaning against it, idly looking around. When the person saw Gu Yubai, they immediately waved in greeting.

Gu Yubai pointed at himself in confusion, and the other person immediately hurried over from the bridge.

His black dress shirt had been replaced with a crewneck T-shirt, his suit pants with khaki casual trousers, and his leather shoes with white sneakers. Even his hair seemed freshly washed—gone was the styling gel he used at work, replaced by a clean, refreshing lemon scent.

Yu Li was even wearing a black cap.

He grinned brightly at Gu Yubai, and under the dim dormitory lights, when Gu Yubai looked up, all he could see was Yu Li’s flawless, jade-like features and animated face.

"Yu... Brother Yu."

Gu Yubai almost called him by his name but then immediately remembered their new relationship status that morning—and why Yu Li was here in the first place.

They had made plans.

But Gu Yubai had been so busy all day that he had completely forgotten about it.

Yu Li smiled at him, took the small bag from Gu Yubai’s hand, and followed him upstairs to his dorm.

"Did you not see the messages I sent you?"

Gu Yubai took out his phone and saw that Yu Li had indeed been texting him an hour ago, finalizing their plans.

He immediately apologized, "Sorry, I was so busy I forgot to check my phone. I don’t even know when it got muted."

Just as Gu Yubai turned around, Yu Li stepped forward to walk beside him.

He naturally took Gu Yubai’s hand and gave it a light shake, his tone relaxed.

"No need to apologize. As your boyfriend, I should unconditionally tolerate everything about you."

He tilted his head and smirked at Gu Yubai, looking exceptionally pleased. "Is your dorm all tidied up? If not, I can help you."

By the time he finished speaking, they had already reached Gu Yubai’s dorm room.

Gu Yubai took out his key and opened the door, only to find that his roommate was absent.

Yu Li noticed it too. After walking around the room, he saw that Gu Yubai had already tidied everything up.

As the host, Gu Yubai poured Yu Li a glass of water.

His eyes twinkled with amusement.

"Brother Yu, what have you got planned for tonight?"

There was no doubt Yu Li had come prepared.

Gu Yubai was curious about how Yu Li intended to foster their relationship.

Yu Li stepped forward and took Gu Yubai’s hand. He seemed a little embarrassed, a quick flash of bashfulness flickering in his eyes.

Holding hands so formally made Gu Yubai feel a bit awkward at first, but since Yu Li was the first to get flustered, Gu Yubai quickly got over it. Besides, Yu Li had already held his hand when they were walking upstairs.

Yu Li gently squeezed Gu Yubai’s hand and said softly, "I got off work too late, so I figured you’ve already eaten. So, I prepared another traditional couple’s activity instead."

Gu Yubai: "Traditional activity?"

Yu Li nodded without elaborating. He didn’t mention this "tradition" was actually suggested by netizens—something that would foster a romantic atmosphere between couples while remaining conservative enough not to scare Gu Yubai, who was new to dating.

Though Yu Li was just as inexperienced, he was older than Gu Yubai and felt he should be the more composed one.

Smirking, Yu Li kept hold of Gu Yubai's hand and lowered his voice mysteriously.

"You'll find out when we get there."

Gu Yubai actually thought their first date, entirely planned by Yu Li, would be something special. But to his surprise, Yu Li led him straight to a movie theater in a shopping mall.

Gu Yubai's lips twitched. "We're... using our perfect evening for a movie?"

He fought back a grin, utterly baffled by the supposed secrecy. Though inexperienced in romance, he knew that watching movies was a cheesy but classic activity for couples.

Not that he minded spending an entire evening with Yu Li in front of a screen.

"At 10:30 PM, the dorm curfew."

Yu Li reached out and ruffled Gu Yubai's hair.

"I'll return His Highness to the castle before then."

The theater was empty. While the lower floors of the mall were bustling, the cinema level was blocked off from the elevator entrance.

As Yu Li led Gu Yubai to the entrance, the latter noticed the curious glances from staff and joked,

"Watching a movie? Did you buy tickets?"

Yu Li stopped abruptly, faking shock. "Oh no, I forgot! Are we not watching a movie today?"

He looked momentarily distressed before shaking Gu Yubai's hand and brightening up.

"Lucky we rented out the place—no tickets needed."

Gu Yubai couldn’t help grinning.

They walked through the empty main hall into a private screening room with a just as huge screen.

The room was empty, but the movie was already ready to go.

In front of the screen stood a huge, cushy couch and a table piled with snacks.

Behind the couch, a white gauze divider separated the space.

When Gu Yubai peeked behind it, his eyes widened.

Gu Yubai: "Why is there a bed in a movie theater?!"

If not for the giant screen, the lavish dining setup and the brand-new bed behind the divider would have made him think they were in some high-end hotel suite.

Yu Li shooed away a few staff members at the door, closed it, and turned on the screen. Hearing Gu Yubai's exclamation, his expression flickered briefly in surprise.

He walked over, saw the bed, and sighed helplessly.

"I didn’t plan this. I just booked the theater and asked for a clean private room with snacks."

Laughing into his hands, Yu Li added, "If my place back home had better equipment, I wouldn’t have brought you to this busy mall at night."

"Probably the staff going overboard."

Though unplanned, Yu Li seemed pleased.

Gu Yubai watched as Yu Li's ears turned red. The latter played it cool, walked to the bed, and tried it out before flashing Gu Yubai a sheepish grin.

"But honestly, watching movies in bed is the most comfortable. The distance is perfect."

True—it didn’t affect the movie, nor did it hinder sleep.

Hand in hand, the two leaned against the headboard, lost in the movie.

The room was cozy.

The AC hummed quietly, the cool silk bedding was soft and refreshing, and as Gu Yubai listened to the movie characters’ dialogue, he unconsciously closed his eyes.

His body swayed, and his head involuntarily bumped into Yu Li’s embrace.

Yu Li had been watching him the whole time—handing him water and snacks earlier, noticing his drowsiness but saying nothing, just smiling as he waited for Gu Yubai to rest his head on his shoulder and sleep.

But instead, Gu Yubai’s head, after swaying from drowsiness, didn't land on Yu Li’s shoulder.

His forehead brushed past Yu Li’s shoulder and landed directly on Yu Li’s lower abdomen... even a bit lower.

As everyone knows, a human head weighs several pounds.

Yu Li yelped and shot upright from the bed.

Gu Yubai’s head, after a slight obstruction, landed safely on the empty pillow.

The noise woke him with a start, wiping away all sleepiness.

When he opened his eyes, Yu Li was hopping around like a monkey on the bed.

And his cheeks... were tomato-red.

Gu Yubai’s gaze slowly dropped to where Yu Li was clutching.

In a sudden, inexplicable impulse, a mischievous grin curled his lips.

"President Yu, show me those abs."
