Chapter 107 Making Wontons for Him

Inside was all the gold, silver, and jewelry that Nanny Xu had plundered from the Prince of Ye’s Mansion over the years, along with the bribes she had secretly taken.

Ji Yuntang didn’t waste any time. With a wave of her hand, the gold and jewelry vanished, all stored in her space.

Then, Ji Yuntang began searching for the two most important land deeds. Knowing how selfish and conniving the woman was, she was sure the two deeds were right in this room.

Under the bed, on the cabinet, by the windowsill, between books…

Ji Yuntang scoured every possible hiding spot for the deeds.

When she picked up a book, a packet of white powder suddenly slipped out from between the pages.

Ji Yuntang pinched a bit with her fingertip, sniffed it, and her expression immediately changed.

“This is actually a laxative.”

She recalled that Luo Junhe’s meals had been laced with laxatives by Qiao Ye before, and she was sure this wasn’t a coincidence.

It was all Nanny Xu’s doing.

She didn’t dare poison him, so she used laxatives instead, so he ate everything but absorbed nothing. His body couldn’t absorb nutrients, and he became more depressed and withdrawn over time.

Over time, Luo Junhe lost all will to manage the Prince of Ye’s Mansion.

“Hah, that old crone. Death is too good for her!”

Once the truth behind Luo Junhe’s fall into the water was uncovered, she would deliver Nanny Xu to the authorities, making her rot in jail before she dies.

Ji Yuntang searched for a while longer and finally discovered the two land deeds inside a vase in the corner.

She thought she’d find some time tomorrow to check out the house and store. If the locations were good, she’d keep them; if not, she’d sell them off.

With that matter settled, it was evening already, and Ji Yuntang decided to make Luo Junhe something different for dinner.

She grabbed a pack of shrimp and some fresh pork from the supermarket, planning to make him shrimp wontons.

She minced the shrimp, pork, eggs, seaweed, and green onions, then mixed them with ginger, garlic, shallots, oyster sauce, chicken bouillon, thirteen-spice powder, cooking wine, and other seasonings to create a filling.

Next, she worked the dough, rolled it into small circles with a rolling pin, and began folding the wontons.

When Tao Zhi came into the small kitchen to wash baby bottles, she was stunned by the sight, and a hint of excitement stirred inside her.

“Your Highness, what delicious food are you making today?”

She knew that when Ji Yuntang cooked, it was never ordinary. She made strange dishes that didn’t exist in this dynasty, but they tasted amazing—anyone who tried them would fall in love with them.

Ji Yuntang saw the sparkle in Tao Zhi’s eyes and smiled. “I’m making wontons. Want to learn too?”

“Yes, I’d love to learn!”

Tao Zhi agreed immediately. Looking at the oddly shaped wontons, she exclaimed in surprise, “Your Highness, your wontons look like gold ingots! Does eating them mean we’ll earn lots of gold ingots?”

“Well… that’s an interesting thought. But there’s no such thing as a free lunch. If we want gold, we still have to rely on our own hands and brains. No crooked schemes, or we’ll lose our lives before earning a single coin.”

Ji Yuntang was in a rare good mood, so she gave Tao Zhi a little talk.

Tao Zhi thought it over, knowing Ji Yuntang was warning her to be a steady person, work hard, and the gold would come. If she schemed and coveted what wasn’t hers, she’d eventually reap what she sowed.

Nanny Xu and Liu Linlang were perfect examples.

Tao Zhi knelt down. “Your Highness, I will follow you faithfully and do whatever you say, no questions asked.”

“Get up. There’s no one else here. Don’t kneel so easily.”

Seeing the maid’s eyes get red, Ji Yuntang added another sentence.

“If you don’t get up and help me wrap wontons now, I’ll finish without you.”

That did the trick for Tao Zhi. She immediately stood up and started learning to wrap wontons with her.

Ji Yuntang knew that after cooking a few times, the girl had fallen in love with it, and she patiently taught her.

In the end, between the two of them, they made two hundred wontons.

Ji Yuntang instructed, “Let’s boil half first. The few of us can’t eat more than that.”

“Your Highness, go rest outside. I’ll start the fire and cook the wontons.”

Tao Zhi was quick. Soon, a pot was ready.

Ji Yuntang made a special dipping sauce. She served Luo Junhe a large bowl with thirty wontons, without any dipping sauce—the plain broth was already fragrant and tasty.

The wontons were small, with thin skins and finely minced filling, perfect for popping one into the mouth at a time.

When Luo Junhe took his first bite, he was blown away. The skin burst with juice, and the filling was delicate and flavorful. He fell in love instantly.

“A Tang, I love these.”

Ji Yuntang took a sip of the broth. On a cold day, this one sip warmed her entire body.

She sat by Luo Junhe’s bedside. “If you like it, eat more. I’ll make it for you again.”

In the side room of the West Courtyard, the fragrant aroma drifted in, awakening Chen Hu, who had been lying unconscious on the bed.

He opened his eyes and sniffed vigorously. “What’s that smell? So delicious.”

As he spoke, his stomach growled in response.

Chen Hu got up from the bed and headed straight for the small kitchen. There, he saw Tao Zhi sitting on a small stool, eating wontons, popping them into her mouth one by one in an irresistible manner.

The craving in his stomach was stirred.

“Miss Tao Zhi, what are you eating? Could you give me a bowl to try?”

Startled by the sudden voice, Tao Zhi turned around and saw Chen Hu staring intently at the wontons in her bowl, swallowing saliva.

“Brother Chen Hu, you’re awake! That’s wonderful!”

Chen Hu rubbed his belly in embarrassment. “It’s all because the food you made smells so good. I could smell it in my dreams, and it woke me up from hunger.”

Tao Zhi smiled at him, put down her bowl and chopsticks, and began to boil wontons for Chen Hu.

I didn't make these, the princess did. We just wrapped an extra hundred wontons. If you want some, I'll cook them for you now.

When Ji Yuntang came out, Chen Hu was already eating. As he ate, he praised Ji Yuntang's cooking skills to Tao Zhi, saying that being with her is a real blessing.

Ji Yuntang gave a helpless smile and casually asked, "Chen Hu, is there still any discomfort in your body?"

Hearing her voice, Chen Hu finally noticed Ji Yuntang. He quickly said, "Princess, I'm perfectly fine. At most, I just haven't eaten all day, and I'm starving."

Ji Yuntang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Then let Tao Zhi cook all the remaining hundred wontons for you."

After dinner, Ji Yuntang went to see Yaoniang again. After the surgery, she was still unconscious, but fortunately, she was out of danger.

At noon the next day, Ji Yuntang went out alone and headed to Baili Lane.
