Chapter 110 Encountering Wang Sheng Again

Chapter 110: Meeting Wang Sheng Again

Ji Yuntang smiled and didn't say much else, watching Manager Wang leave.

On her way back to the mansion, she strolled leisurely, pondering how to renovate her beauty and skincare store to make it both unique and stand out.

Suddenly, a commotion nearby caught her attention. She walked over and saw a young man in white robes being pinned to the ground by two servants in front of the Jinsi Cloth Shop, receiving a vicious beating.

"Boss Zhu, I'm innocent! I really didn't steal the shop's silver!"

The round-faced, chubby man beside him sneered, "Hmph! If it wasn't you, then who? You're the shop's accountant, responsible for tallying the accounts every day. If you didn't take it, did that missing twenty taels of silver sprout legs and fly away on its own?"

"Wang Sheng, I'll give you one more chance: hand over the twenty taels you stole. Otherwise, don't blame me for disregarding our master-servant bond and dragging you to the authorities!"

Hearing a familiar name, Ji Yuntang gave a start.

Wang Sheng?

Wasn't he the young man she had helped at the medical competition last time?

Could it really be him?

Although Ji Yuntang didn't know Wang Sheng well, she was always a good judge of character. Wang Sheng had a gentle and reserved nature, polite to others.

During the medical competition, he had endured insults and mockery without retaliating, instead forgiving generously.

How could someone like that possibly steal?

Seeing Wang Sheng beaten black and blue and spitting blood, Ji Yuntang rushed forward swiftly, grabbing both servants by the arms and throwing them to the ground.

"This princess commands you to stop! In broad daylight, how dare you lay hands on someone? Is there no law left?"

Wang Sheng thought he would keep getting beaten, but a flash of white appeared before him, and a young woman stood in front of him, making his heart leap.

Ji Yuntang was his benefactor; he would never mistake her voice even in death.

Wang Sheng couldn't deny his gratitude. He wanted to kneel and bow, but Ji Yuntang stopped him. "You're injured. Don't move."

Standing there, Ji Yuntang exuded an imposing aura. Everyone was intimidated by her sharp gaze, and the two servants scrambled to hide behind Boss Zhu.

This woman—fierce!

Boss Zhu didn't know Ji Yuntang. Seeing the servants trembling, he sneered dismissively, "Look at you cowards! Scared witless by a woman, you bring shame to our shop!"

With that, he turned aggressively to Ji Yuntang. "Who are you? I'm disciplining my own shop's servant. What business is it of yours?"

Ji Yuntang blocked Wang Sheng, her red lips curling coldly. "You say Wang Sheng stole your silver. Got proof?"

"Proof?" Boss Zhu retorted sharply. "The fact that we're twenty taels short in today's accounts is solid proof!"

"Every day's accounts are handled by him. No one else can access the money. Besides, someone saw Wang Sheng sneakily pocketing twenty taels into his own pocket. I have both witnesses and physical evidence. If not him, then who?"

Hearing this, the battered youth suddenly gritted his teeth and glared at him, shouting hoarsely, "It wasn't me! I didn't steal the silver. I've been framed!"

"We keep fifty taels as reserve silver each day, tallied twice, at noon and in the evening. I recorded every single tael we received today, and all the banknotes were in the drawer. I really didn't steal the shop's silver!"

Clearly, Boss Zhu refused to listen, obsessed with the money.

"Then tell me, where did the missing twenty taels go?"

Wang Sheng fell silent.

At noon, after counting, aside from the daily reserve, twenty taels were indeed missing.

Boss Zhu immediately accused him, demanding it back.

But Wang Sheng hadn't taken it. He had no idea where those twenty taels went.

No matter how he explained, Boss Zhu wouldn't believe him.

"Wang Sheng, you still deny it? When you were a beggar on the streets, I took pity on you and gave you a job here. And this is how you repay me? You ungrateful wretch! With such sticky fingers, you must have been thieving all along!"

Wang Sheng's heart ached, his face flushed red. His lips trembled as he whispered, "I really didn't..."

He was often insulted at the shop, usually swallowing his pride and letting things slide.

But being humiliated like this in front of Ji Yuntang shamed him deeply and made him feel utterly exposed.

He cared little for others' opinions, but he dreaded Ji Yuntang thinking less of him.

"Boss Zhu, with a mouth that foul, did you even brush your teeth today?"

Ji Yuntang stared coldly at him. "In business, harmony brings wealth. Are you this pushy because business is booming and you don't care about consequences?"

"Besides, you and Wang Sheng are only employer and employee. Whatever his past, you have no right to slander him. You took him in; he works for you—it's a fair employer-employee relationship. Nobody owes anyone anything."

Then Ji Yuntang changed her tone. "This princess heard you say someone saw Wang Sheng steal twenty taels. Call that person out and confront them. Are you brave enough, Boss Zhu?"

Boss Zhu took the bait and flared up. "What's there to be afraid of?"

"Fine. I'll set the record straight so you can't claim I'm unjust!"

He signaled a servant, who immediately went inside to fetch someone.

Soon, a thin, weasel-faced young man stepped out, wearing a seemingly polite smile but with a dark glint in his eyes.

This was Boss Zhu's nephew, Zhu Mian, the one who had reported Wang Sheng for stealing.

Zhu Mian darted his shifty eyes around, seeing Wang Sheng battered and bruised, no longer the handsome youth he once was. He was gleeful inside.

But on the outside, he put on a confused face.

"Uncle, why did you call me?"

Boss Zhu's expression softened slightly. "Mian'er, tell them: Did Wang Sheng really steal those twenty taels today?"

"Uncle, I saw it with my own eyes. Wang Sheng sneakily pocketed twenty taels from the money drawer. I wouldn't dare lie about something like this!"
