Demon King – Chapter 25 – The Demon Lord Returns to School

Eiya’s school wasn’t far from home, and they arrived there after a short while.

“Oh, right.” Just before getting out, Eiya suddenly remembered something. She unzipped her schoolbag and rummaged around inside.

“Here, for you.” After a moment of searching, she handed Eiru a gift box wrapped in decorative paper.

“It’s your birthday present. Your birthday’s in two days, and you probably won’t be home then, so I’m giving it to you early. Happy birthday in advance… I’m off. Bye.” Zipping up her bag, Eiya hopped out of the car and headed toward the school gates.

“Huh?” Eiru blinked, stunned, gift box in hand. As the car drove off, Eiru’s father finally spoke.

“Eiya saved up her pocket money for a long time without telling your mother. I don’t even know what she bought. So be nicer to your sister, and don’t act like you can’t even carry her stuff.”

“Ermmm…” Eiru lowered her head, unsure what to say.

Okay, fine—she really couldn’t lift the bag—but who’d believe that? Feeling slightly wronged, she peeled off the gift wrap to see what her sister had gotten her.

“I really want a Switch…” A few months ago, Eiru had been sprawled on Eiya’s bed, whining.

“Don’t you have a job?” Eiya asked without looking up from her book.

“I do, but it barely covers my living expenses. You know your beloved older brother is dirt poor… There’s no way Mom or Dad would ever buy it for me.”

“A game console? Yeah, right. Dream on. Just be a cloud player. Even I’d get it smashed by Mom if I tried bringing one home.” Rolling her eyes at her overly dramatic sibling, Eiya had warned him.

Now, in the present, Eiru stared in disbelief at the Switch in her hands.

“What’d she get you?” Eiru’s father asked as he saw Eiru unwrap the package.

“N-Nothing. It’s an educational tablet. Yeah. Educational.” Eiru quickly stashed the box into her bag. Her father gave her a puzzled look but didn’t press further.

Inside the box was a note from Eiya: “If Mom and Dad find out, you’re on your own.”

Wow. Sweet little Eiya… Eiru was overwhelmed. So she did have a good sister… cool on the surface, but clearly cared deep down. On the outside, she remained calm, but inside, she was crying buckets.

Eiru’s birthday was July 16th—coincidentally the same as the in-game version of “Little Demon Lord Lu.” Add in the fact that she now looked just like the character, and she couldn’t help but feel like the universe was playing a prank on her.

Still deep in thought and sleep-deprived from last night, Eiru soon became motion-sick and started nodding off again.

“If you’re sleepy, just nap. You get carsick anyway. It’s still a while before we get to your school,” said Eiru’s father, glancing in the rearview mirror at his drowsy child.

I want to sleep… But as he said that, Eiru forced herself upright, mumbling mentally. If she really fell asleep, the transformation might cancel, and her wings alone would be enough to get her tossed out of the car.

She hated car rides with family. These past two years, the most agonizing times had always been family road trips. Especially trips back to their hometown during holidays—hours of travel, motion sickness, and the inability to sleep was pure torture.

After about forty minutes of agony, Eiru finally saw the gate of Seventh High. A wave of relief washed over her.

As the car stopped, she leapt out like she was escaping a prison, clutching her bag and stumbling over to a nearby tree, where she leaned on her knees and dry heaved.

“Told you not to push yourself. You wouldn’t feel this bad if you’d just slept,” her father said, gently patting her back.

After catching her breath, Eiru followed him to the boys’ dormitory. At the dorm office, they checked in, received her dorm room number and key.

Bedding, clothes, daily necessities—there was a lot to carry, and the elevator was apparently under maintenance. With all the students in class, her father helped haul everything upstairs.

“15th floor. Just kill me now…” Eiru gasped, half-squatting by the stairwell.

Her father looked at her in confusion. Was his son really this out of shape? He hadn’t been carrying much—Eiru’s father had done most of the heavy lifting—but his child looked about ready to collapse.

“You need to work out. You can’t even handle this much?” he said.

Work out, my ass! Eiru seethed silently. Her body was already fixed—there was no growth or development to be done. Even with 100 years of training, she’d still be a physically weak little girl.

Her male disguise had the same stats as her real body. Worse, she couldn’t use mana to reinforce her strength like she normally would. If she could , she could probably carry a bulldozer up fifteen floors without breaking a sweat.

But her father didn’t know any of this. He simply slowed down to match her pace. Taking breaks every few flights, they finally reached her assigned dorm room.

“I’m dead…” Eiru collapsed into a chair the moment they stepped inside.

“You can go now, Dad. I’ve got the rest.”

Please go now—I’ll be so much more relaxed once you’re gone… Not that she’d ever say that aloud. Once everything was moved in, she urged her father to leave.

“Stay out of trouble,” he said, then left without further delay.

Once Eiru was sure her father was gone, she locked the door behind him and reverted to her true form. Covered in sweat, she slumped back into her chair, utterly defeated.
