Demon King – Chapter 393 – What You Need Is a Catalyst

“Sis, what are you doing?”

Eiya poked her little head out from the bed and asked Eiru, who was sitting below, fiddling with something she could not quite make out.

Yuki and the others had all gone to class. Before leaving, they even issued a house-arrest order to the two sisters.

“Unless someone was bringing you along, the two of you stay in the dorm properly. No running around outside.”

So the sisters could only stay in the dorm. Although they were a bit restless and somewhat annoyed, the two girls understood that Yuki was only doing this because he was worried about them.

“Making you a wig. Can’t have you staying cooped up in here forever, right?”

The little Demon Lord focused on the thing in her hands. She did not have the spare attention to talk, so she replied casually.

‘Making a wig? Are there even tools here? Is that thing really that easy to make? A flood of questions instantly popped up in Eiya’s head.’

‘Wait. She didn’t cut off her own hair, did she?’

Thinking of that, Eiya immediately panicked. She poked her head out further, just about to say something, only to realize that not a single strand of her sister’s silver hair was missing. It was still perfectly intact on her head.

“Let me rest a bit… Such a hassle…”

Her Majesty the Demon Lord leaned back against the chair. Her whole body went limp like a salted fish sprawled there.

“What kind of nonsense are you imagining now?”

Raising her head and meeting her sister’s slightly dumbfounded expression, Eiru immediately guessed that this girl was once again running wild with her imagination.

“You… what did you use to make the wig?”

Looking at the half-finished black wig on the desk, Eiya scanned the entire tabletop but could not find any corresponding tools or materials. It could not possibly have been conjured out of thin air, right?

“I used air. Do you believe me?”

The little Demon Lord yawned.

“Anyway, I didn’t use my hair. My hair couldn’t even make you a wig.”

“I’m not lying. It really was made from air…”

Seeing the look on Eiya’s face that clearly said ‘do you think I’m an idiot’, Eiru waved a hand through the air.

In the empty space, a small water orb suddenly appeared. But in the next moment, it vanished into nothingness. The inexplicable sight left Eiya staring blankly.

“Didn’t you say before that you can’t create things out of nothing?”

Eiya still remembered her sister’s earlier explanations about magic. This water orb appearing out of thin air completely overturned that theory, didn’t it?

“That’s not creating something from nothing. This is one of my authorities, Reconstitution.”

Her Majesty the Demon Lord explained calmly.

“But what you just saw was a pseudo-authority. It can only change things temporarily. Once the magic sustaining it is removed, it reverts back.”

The authority called Reconstitution rearranges and reorganizes microscopic atoms and electrons within any substance, reconstructing them into other substances. It is an extremely troublesome ability that consumes both mental effort and magic power.

To put it bluntly, this ability demands a very high level of knowledge. If you do not understand the composition of a substance, there is no way for you to construct it. So this authority is mentally exhausting, draining, and extremely dangerous, placing heavy demands on calculation and control.

If you mess around carelessly, who knows what indescribable object might pop out. And hair is an organic material, which makes it even more troublesome to construct.

Because it was for her own sister to wear, Eiru did not dare to be careless. On top of that, she was using her true authority. As a result, with the wig only half finished, she was already exhausted and severely out of mana, slumped in her chair.

After hearing her sister’s explanation, Eiya felt it was even more absurd. In other words, as long as Eiru knew the composition of an object, and had enough magic, she could make anything? Isn’t that basically cheating?

“Honestly, I really don’t want to use this ability a second time… It’s way too mentally draining.”

The little Demon Lord complained like a dead fish sprawled in the chair.

“My magic is gone too. Today I can only help you up to this point.”

“Sis… why don’t we just buy a wig? Why go through so much trouble?”

The corner of Eiya’s mouth twitched. She felt that her sister’s approach was seriously overkill.

“Because I’m poor. I don’t have money to buy my dear little sister a wig. So I can only do it myself.”

Eiru spread her hands.

“See how much your big brother dotes on you? And you didn’t even help me just now when Stupid Yuki was scolding me.”

‘How am I supposed to help you? Go down there and donate my head, so we both get scolded?’

Eiya’s face was full of black lines. Her sister was completely eaten alive by Yuki. Even if she dragged herself into it, there was no way to turn the tables.

“By the way, Little Ya, you don’t oppose me dating Stupid Yuki anymore?”

Eiru asked casually.

“Lately it feels like you’ve been pretty much tacitly allowing me to mess around with him.”

“What choice do I have? Does my opposition even matter?”

Eiya rolled her eyes.

“You’re throwing yourself at him with your life on the line. I couldn’t stop you even if I wanted to. And he’s genuinely sincere toward you. All I can do is close one eye and let it slide.”

Eiya could clearly see how much Yuki cared about Eiru. Although compared to lovers, most of the time it felt more like a parent taking care of a child. Still, that only showed that Yuki truly placed Eiru in the most important position in his heart.

“But I’ve said it before. I really can’t see any sign of you liking Brother Yuki at all. On the other hand, his feelings for you are very obvious.”

Propping her chin with both hands, Eiya complained.

“On the surface, you two are together now, but Brother Yuki still has a long way to go in his strategy.”

“I’m trying too, but we’re too familiar. Honestly, I really can’t just like him like that.”

The little Demon Lord was also helpless. They had always interacted as good bros and close buddies. With that kind of distance, it was honestly very hard to develop that kind of feeling.

Even if Yuki fell in love with her, that was under the premise that he did not know her true body and male form were the same person. If he had known from the beginning that Eiru and Lu Brat were the same person, what kind of attitude and thoughts would he have had?

“So what you need is a catalyst, not just sticking together and forcing yourself to like each other.”

Eiya analyzed seriously.

“Without such a catalyst, your relationship will forever stay like this. Just Brother Yuki’s one-sided love for you.”

“I understand all that. I don’t want to keep dangling him either… but I really can’t like him right now.”

The little Demon Lord was getting a bit frantic. She did not want to be that kind of scumbag woman who toyed with someone’s feelings.

“If the feelings really can’t progress, instead of dragging it out, I suggest cutting it off cleanly. That’s better for everyone.”

Eiya made a chopping gesture with her hand.

“But you still have plenty of time. Take it slow. More haste, less speed. Being anxious is useless~”

Eiya’s suggestion was exactly what Eiru had been thinking as well. The way she was trying things out was along the same lines. She did not want to waste Yuki’s life and feelings. If she could not give him what he needed, then the only choice would be to come clean and leave.

But for now, the most important thing was to give Yuki a beautiful first love, to play the role of a considerate, clingy partner and the like. Though honestly, for a certain girl, this was pretty much just acting in her true colors anyway. There was nothing to really act.
