Demon King – Chapter 454 – Two Old Scoundrels
Demon King – Chapter 454 – Two Old Scoundrels
“My dad and mom both grew up in an orphanage… They grew up together from childhood, went to the same school, same class, the kind people usually call childhood sweethearts.”
While telling Eiru about his parents’ past, Yuki casually ran his fingers through a few strands of her smooth silver hair.
An orphanage? The Demon Lord immediately caught the key point. If Yuki’s parents grew up in an orphanage, then who exactly were these so-called grandparents?
“Later my dad got into the police academy and became a cop, working his way up step by step to where he is now… And my mom, you already know, she’s a strong woman who started her own business.”
The process was tough, but with the right opportunities and sharp business sense, Yuki’s mother managed to pull herself out of hardship and carve out a good environment and solid conditions for her child.
Once people become well-off and conditions improve, troubles that never showed up before naturally start knocking. And Yuki’s maternal grandparents were the biggest trouble of all.
Yes, the very people who had abandoned their daughter because they favored sons over daughters had always lived in fairly strained conditions. After hearing that the daughter they threw away had made it big, they immediately showed up, waving the banner of biological parents, planning to squeeze some benefits out of her.
They cried about how hard life had been back then, how abandoning their daughter was a last resort. Life being hard was true, but judging from the number of sons they had, the abandonment clearly had nothing to do with that. Not to mention several of those sons were born after they had already abandoned their daughter.
They demanded money sent back home as subsidies, demanded their daughter arrange jobs for several of their sons in her company, help them find partners and all sorts of things. They even demanded she fund the schooling of her two younger brothers.
When she refused, they went straight to her company to cause trouble. Sometimes it was just the two of them, sometimes they dragged along a few good-for-nothing sons who had nothing to do all day. Their shamelessness truly knew no bounds.
Luckily the company belonged to Yuki’s mom herself. If it were someone else, being harassed like that might have gotten them fired long ago by a company that wanted to avoid trouble. As for her, her attitude was basically to dodge them whenever possible, with no good solution in sight.

Agreeing was absolutely out of the question. Even giving them the slightest bit would mean their whole family would cling on like parasites forever. But no matter what, they were still her biological parents, so she could not just deal with them outright. All she could do was keep avoiding them.
You can escape the monk, but not the temple. Somehow they dug up her family situation and home address and started coming straight to her door to make trouble. Especially after finding out she had a son like Yuki, they shifted their target to him, planning to use him as a breakthrough.
All kinds of sweet talk and sugar-coated bullets. “We are your grandparents, you cannot be as heartless as your mom and cut us off” and so on. Thinking Yuki was inexperienced and easy to fool, the two old scoundrels wanted him to put in a good word and persuade his mother for them.
As for whether this would worsen the mother-son relationship, they did not care at all. All they wanted was to latch onto their daughter, treat her like an ATM to support their other sons. What would happen to their daughter’s own family was none of their concern.
Of course, Yuki was not stupid. Faced with their demands, if not for worrying about embarrassing his parents and the bad influence it could cause, he would have thrown the two of them out long ago.
Calling them grandma and grandpa was nothing more than basic politeness. Deep down, Yuki never regarded these two irresponsible people as his grandparents. Just as he said, they were not worthy.
Because his parents were always busy, the one who usually had to deal with those two old scoundrels at home was him. Unlucky Yuki really was bearing pressure that someone his age should not have to bear.
“So dad does not let us go out because he is afraid they will see you and start getting ideas about you again.”
At this point, Yuki suddenly realized that he and his dad might be thinking the same thing.
Compared to himself, this silly girl was the one truly inexperienced, so clueless she would still be counting money after being sold off. If those two old scoundrels set their sights on her, things would be seriously troublesome.

And people like them, for money, would stop at nothing. Seeing Eiru’s highly misleading appearance, who knew what kind of leverage they might try to use, maybe threatening or spreading rumors to create advantages for themselves.
“So stay obediently in the room with me. Do not go out until those two old scoundrels leave, got it?”
“Mm… But can Uncle Li handle it by himself?”
After hearing the whole story, Eiru could not help feeling worried.
At first she thought that with Officer Li’s profession, no matter how shameless those two were, they would not dare go too far. But listening to Yuki’s description, it sounded like even the identity of a police officer could be turned around and used against him. Sometimes you really do not know just how far shameless people can go.
“Relax. Since my dad said so, we can only leave it to him.”
Yuki patted his little girlfriend’s head, though he was worried inside as well.
Having dealt with those two personally, Yuki knew exactly how hard they were to handle. He could still play dumb and muddle through using his young age, but his dad could not.
With that in mind, he even wanted to go out and face those two scoundrels together with his old man, share some of the pressure. But the girl in this room made it impossible for him to do that right now.
“Am I… causing you trouble?”

The Demon Lord tilted her head. No matter how well Yuki tried to hide it, she could still see the anxiety in his heart.
“I could slip out through the window first…”
Eiru stood up and opened the window, then froze on the spot when she saw the security bars.
“Where do you think you are slipping to?”
Yuki laughed and lightly flicked her on the forehead.
“You staying here obediently is the best way to ease my worries.”
After all, just seeing your silly yet adorably cute face is enough to lift my mood no matter how many worries I have… Thinking that, Yuki suddenly noticed the sound of the living room door opening, along with two extra annoying voices.
“By the way, you said your parents both grew up in an orphanage, then what is up with your cousin?”
Eiru had also heard the noise outside. Seeing Yuki’s expression darken, she hurriedly tried to divert his attention with a new topic.
“Hm? That? She is my dad’s older brother’s daughter, someone he found while searching for relatives. My dad was not abandoned, he got separated from his family and lost because of some reasons.”

“Oh… so that is how it is… I thought you were too embarrassed to admit crossdressing and made up a sister out of thin air to cover for it…”
Before she could finish, the cheeky Demon Lord took a forehead flick from Yuki.
“Ow… You hit me again…”
“Silly girl.”
Looking at her aggrieved expression, Yuki could not help laughing.
“I would never crossdress. No one can make me.”
“Then what if I asked you to crossdress?”
“If it is my wife’s request, then I can consider it…”
