Demon King – Chapter 501 – Reinforcements Have Arrived
“Wow, you bastard actually remembered to call me? Cough cough cough… Haven’t you been enjoying life as a hands-off boss? What wind blew you my way today?”
The moment the call connected, a voice full of resentment and sarcasm came through along with a fit of coughing, startling all three of them on the spot.
Since they needed to discuss things, Jiaqi had put the phone on speaker. And the moment a certain girl heard that all-too-familiar voice, she suddenly reacted like something had triggered her condition, her whole body starting to tremble.
Yuki noticed Eiru’s abnormal state immediately, inwardly shouting that this was bad, and hurriedly reached out to cover her ears with both hands.
“It’s my fault… I dragged Little Ya down too… it’s all my fault…”
“Turn that damn speaker off! Go talk to Little Eiya on the balcony! Routey will go straight into PTSD the moment she hears anything related to the Daughters of Amber Crystal!”
Yuki roared at Jiaqi, then lowered his head and immediately started damage control on his little girlfriend, who was mumbling to herself in his arms.
“Hey, be good, don’t think about all that nonsense. This has nothing to do with you…”
Jiaqi shut off the speaker right away. He hadn’t expected Eiru to have such a strong reaction just from hearing Eiya’s voice. But this one was definitely on him, so all he could do was take the phone and head to the balcony in embarrassment.
“So what do you want from me? Cough cough… What was Brother Yuki just yelling about? Cough… And what’s this about my sister having PTSD?”
On the other end, Eiya’s tone was extremely impatient, but sensing that something was off, she still forced herself to rein in her temper.
“No, nothing, those two are just messing around, don’t mind it… Ahaha…”

Jiaqi laughed it off. He knew very well that with Eiya’s personality, plus her faintly developing sister-complex tendencies, if she found out the truth this would blow up into a huge mess.
“I see… Then when are you bringing the little thing back? Cough, damn it, I’m coughing myself to death… You’ve dumped it on me for several days already, haven’t you? Cough cough…”
As Eiya coughed lightly, the resentment in her voice made it obvious that she had not been having an easy time with Hulu these past few days.
“That doesn’t sound like you. Don’t you really like small animals? Taking care of Hulu shouldn’t be that troublesome… Also, you’re coughing this badly, are you sure you’re okay?”
Even though they’d been apart for a long time, Eiya was still very much Jiaqi’s childhood sweetheart. Having always treated her like a younger sister, hearing her cough like this naturally made him worried. Your sister’s already in trouble, so please don’t you go pulling something too.
“It’s nothing. Who knows why I’ve been coughing so badly these past couple days… I do like small animals, sure, but my parents don’t agree! Hiding it from them is a huge pain!”
“Hulu can turn invisible, right? I told it not to show itself in front of anyone other than you…”
“It’s even more hyper than my sister! I have to take it to school with me! Once it gets excited it just drops the invisibility, you know that? I’m exhausted from hiding it all the time… So you didn’t call me just to chat about this, right? What’s the real reason?”
Talking so much made Eiya start coughing so hard it felt like she was about to hack her lungs out. She didn’t want to keep beating around the bush and urged Jiaqi to stop rambling and get to the point.
“Well… look, tomorrow’s the weekend, right? Are you free to come by your sister’s apartment? There are some things we need your help with. It’s better to talk face to face…”
“I’m free after dance practice. I’ll bring the little thing over too and return it to you. Keeping it here is too much trouble.”
It wasn’t anything particularly difficult, and she could check on her sister while she was at it. Thinking that, Eiya agreed.

“But if you’re asking me for help, you know the rules, right?”
“Yeah, yeah… One milk tea and two puddings, right?”
Jiaqi let out a sigh. This girl had been like this since she was little. Any time you asked her to do something, she’d demand food in return. And after growing up, it seemed like she’d only gotten worse.
“And add one ice cream!”
“You’re coughing like this and you still want ice cream? And eating that much, aren’t you afraid of getting fat?”
“None of your business! I’ll eat whatever I want!”

On a weekend afternoon, a girl wearing a sky-blue princess dress, with an unidentified creature perched on her head, arrived downstairs at an apartment building.
“Cough cough cough… I’m gonna throw up. Why have I been coughing nonstop these past two days? I’ve got some serious cat luck…”
Muttering softly, the girl entered the building and stopped in front of a familiar apartment door.
After glancing around to make sure no one was nearby, she let out a sigh of relief, picked the unidentified creature off her head, and pulled off her wig in one smooth motion, revealing long silver-white hair underneath.
“Hot as hell… Finally feels comfortable.”

After muttering that, she started pounding hard on the door with her little fists.
“Sis! Brother Jiaqi! I’m here! Open up already!”
With the way Eiya was pounding on the door, people three floors up and down could probably hear it. Before long, hurried footsteps sounded from inside. Jiaqi rushed over and yanked the door open, dragging the girl at the entrance straight inside.
“I’m just saying, you’re a proper young lady, could you please pay some attention to your image and manners?”
“Mind your own business~ I’ll act however I want~”
Eiya stood there with her hands on her hips, wearing a punchable expression that screamed “try hitting me if you dare.” But before Jiaqi could react, a violent coughing fit knocked all the smugness right out of her.
“Serves you right, always causing trouble…”
Even while mocking her, Jiaqi still reached out and gently patted her back.
“Where’s my sister?”
“She’s asleep. Yuki is taking care of her…”
Just hearing Eiya’s voice was enough to trigger such a strong reaction, so there was no way Yuki and Jiaqi would let the two sisters meet directly. To avoid trouble, Yuki had already coaxed his beloved little girlfriend to sleep before Eiya arrived.
“Asleep in the afternoon? It’s almost dinner time, isn’t it?”

Even though she knew her sister tended to sleep a lot, this weird schedule still made Eiya want to complain.
After only a few more sentences, Eiya suddenly started coughing violently again. In her current state, she really wasn’t fit to talk. Jiaqi had no choice but to squat down and gently pat her back again.
“Stop talking. Go inside and I’ll explain the situation to you… Basically, we want you to help ask around and look into something.”
Seeing Eiya coughing like this, Jiaqi felt a bit bad about asking her for help. But since she was already here, he had to tell her what this was about.
The two of them went inside and joined Yuki, who was watching over a certain girl by the bed, and began discussing things. After Jiaqi explained the situation and what they needed her to do, Eiya frowned immediately.
“So you want me to go find someone I don’t even know, get on good terms with her, and then sound her out about her views on romance and what she thinks about that Jixian guy?”
“It’s pretty troublesome for you, but we can’t exactly ask her directly either… You’re both girls, you should be able to chat more naturally. We can only ask you to help.”
“But you know I’m not very good at heart-to-heart stuff… I’m more used to formal, etiquette-level interactions. So…”
Eiya looked hesitant, clearly in a difficult spot.
“So you need to pay more! Add another ice cream!”
