Demon King – Chapter 503 – The Answer Was Right Beside Them?

The food was ready, but since Eiru still had not woken up, Yuki had to stay by her side. So in the living room, only the pair that could barely be called childhood sweethearts were supposed to be eating there…

Yet at this moment, not a single person was at the dining table. Instead, a certain silver-haired girl was sprinting around the entire apartment like her life depended on it, being hunted down by someone right behind her.

“Stop right there! You’ve got the guts to do it, but now you dare run?!”

Jiaqi roared. If he did not catch that crazy girl in front of him today and give her a proper beating, he would write his name backwards.

Because someone had locked her out of the kitchen earlier, Eiya really did make good on what she said and added something extra to his food. And not just cumin powder either. She dumped an entire pack of instant noodle seasoning straight into Jiaqi’s bowl.

And so the current chase scene was born. An enraged Jiaqi was roaring as he tried to make her relive the fear of being bullied by him back in their childhood.

“Big sis, wake up! Your dear little sister is about to be abused!”

Eiya yelled strange things toward the bedroom. Ever since she was little, whenever Jiaqi went too far bullying her, she would cry out to Eiru for help.

Hearing Eiya’s shrill cries, Yuki frowned, stood up from the bedside, walked to the door… and then closed it.

‘You two take your time fooling around. Don’t disturb my wife’s sleep.’

Yuki’s meaning could not have been clearer. That single action completely cut off Eiya’s last shred of hope.

A frail fourteen-year-old girl versus a tall guy who kept up regular training. In a contest of running, the outcome had never been in doubt. Before long, Eiya’s miserable screams drifted in from outside.

If it were the usual little Demon Lord hearing this, she would probably be clapping in delight. This crazy girl was always too unruly with people she was close to. And someone who both had the ability and the nerve to deal with her was probably only Jiaqi.

“Mm…”

As if she had dreamed of something terrifying, the Demon Lord on the bed suddenly let out a fearful, pained whimper.

Yuki, who was still by the door, was startled and rushed over in a single stride, pulling her fully into his arms and soothing her.

“It’s okay, it’s okay… I’m here. Nothing’s wrong.”

Sensing safety from Yuki’s voice and movements, Eiru slowly calmed down under his comfort. Curled up in his arms, she looked just like a delicate little milk kitten.

This was exactly why Yuki had not gone out to eat. Over the past few days, Eiru had been reacting like this whenever she slept. So now he was basically acting like a male mom. The moment that girl fell asleep, he would stay by her side, always ready to comfort her.

“This can’t go on… is there really no way to solve this?”

Yuki’s head started aching. His little girlfriend being like this really made it impossible to feel at ease.

There was a two-birds-one-stone method to deal with Eiru, but that would only make her face and accept his existence. It still could not resolve her self-blame and fear.

He needed to find some kind of solid evidence to make her understand that none of this was her responsibility. Deep down, Yuki did not believe any of this had anything to do with his little girlfriend. After all, what sense did it make to dump thousands of years of blame onto a sixteen-year-old kid?

As he was thinking, Yuki suddenly caught sight of a small purple-blue figure on top of the cabinet. Hulu was yawning, looking sleepy, as if it was about to lie down and sleep right there.

“Hulu, don’t sleep yet. Dad wants to ask you a few questions…”

Calling out to it, Yuki felt that all of this was also connected to Hulu and decided to try to squeeze some information out of the little thing.

“Goo yi?”

“Do you know about Amber Crystal… no, Abyssal Amber?”

From Yaoyao’s information, he learned that Amber Crystal was a magical thing that could grant wishes based on the person’s inner desires. Wasn’t that exactly the same as this little guy’s ability?

On top of that, Hulu fed on Eiru’s magic power. All the signs pointed to this little creature being deeply connected to everything that was happening.

And Hulu’s learning ability was very strong. By now, it had long learned to understand their language. Aside from not being able to speak, simple daily communication was not really a problem.

To Yuki’s delight, when faced with his question, the little thing first tilted its head in confusion for a moment, then nodded its tiny head at him.

“You know? Then do you know how that thing is related to Lu Brat?”

Hulu nodded again, then rolled over to expose its belly. It seemed to be expressing something, but Yuki could not understand it at all.

“This… what does that even mean?”

The answer was right beside him, yet the one who knew could not speak. That left Yuki extremely anxious.

Hulu rolled over again, raised a little paw to point at itself, then pointed at Eiru in Yuki’s arms. Then it rolled once more and thumped off the cabinet onto the floor.

That whole series of actions left Yuki completely baffled. He had no idea what the little thing was trying to express. Realizing that Hulu could not answer complex questions, Yuki decided to change his approach and ask some simple yes-or-no questions instead.

“Do you think those Daughters of Amber Crystal… actually, do you even know what Daughters of Amber Crystal are? Forget it. Anyway, do you think Lu Brat bears any responsibility for what happened to them?”

Under Yuki’s delighted gaze, the little thing shook its head vigorously. Then it propped itself up, standing on its hind legs, and kept clawing at the air in front of it.

“Then do you have a connection with Amber Crystal as well?”

Hulu nodded, then pointed outside the window to a potted plant grown by Eiru’s neighbor. Following the direction it indicated, Yuki saw that a leaf happened to fall from the plant.

Using magic power, Hulu controlled the fallen leaf, making it float directly into the room and land in Yuki’s outstretched palm.

The little paw pointed at its own head, then at the leaf in Yuki’s hand, and then at the potted plant outside. It seemed to be expressing some kind of connection between all of them, but it was far too abstract to understand.

As if it felt it had finished answering, the little thing’s paw started pointing back and forth between its own body, Eiru, and the area outside the door. But after realizing that Yuki still had no reaction and clearly could not understand, Hulu gave up explaining, flopped down on the floor in a sulk, and curled into a ball.

‘Fine, fine. No rush. When Lu Brat wakes up, she can communicate with Hulu.’

Yuki did not mind that at all. Right now, his heart was filled with joy, because he had seen hope for solving the problem.

The Demon Lord, Abyssal Amber, Hulu, and those Daughters of Amber Crystal. Linking everything together, Yuki vaguely felt that he had touched upon the answer to all of this… yet that answer was still extremely blurry, leaving him unable to be certain.
