Demon King – Chapter 821 – Unexpected Reinforcements
Demon King – Chapter 821 – Unexpected Reinforcements
On one of the floating islands at the heart of the dreamscape, across a vast stretch of grassland, a silver haired boy was sprinting under the blazing sun. He looked as if he were venting all of his youthful energy. That was, if you ignored the massive monstrosity chasing right behind him.
“Lu Brat, what the hell are you dreaming about?!”
The bizarre creature behind him had the beak of an eagle and the body of a tiger. Even though Yuki had no idea what this thing actually was, he could tell at a glance that it was definitely not friendly.
The creature looked like a griffin out of mythology. Setting aside its ferocious appearance, the sharp teeth inside its pointed beak alone were enough for Yuki to judge its diet. Obviously a carnivorous predator. If he did not run, was he supposed to walk up and deliver himself like takeout?
Not only did it have a body like a tiger or a lion, its temperament carried a feline cruelty as well. It had no intention of killing its prey immediately. Instead it kept a certain distance, stalking and intimidating him from behind.
Although this beast did not have wings like a true griffin, catching up to a human running at full speed should have been effortless.
To be honest, that kind of playful temperament would have been fine on a little kitten. It would even be cute. But when that same behavior was placed on something bigger than a human, there was absolutely nothing cute about it.
At the center of the dreamscape, on another floating island, Belonia was gently stroking the enormous crystal beside her. Inside it, along with the throne, a certain girl was sealed within. Through magic, she watched Yuki being chased. The smile on her face was completely undisguised.
“Well, well. The one who barged in turned out to be you, you little brat who dared to covet the Demon Lord. I do not know how you got in, but it seems you did not do any homework before coming, did you?”
The one currently controlling Eiru’s dream was her. Belonia could naturally tell that the distant Yuki was not some existence imagined by the dream.

But people in this world could not use magic. They could not even perceive or manipulate mana. So how exactly had this guy gotten in? Invading a dream was far from simple magic.
“Was it you who tampered with things? When did you do it?”
Belonia glanced at the crystal beside her, looking at the sleeping form of the little Demon Lord inside, and frowned.
“Forget it. Even if it was you, suddenly sending your little boyfriend in like this only means he will die here forever.”
Just to be safe, she observed him more closely. After confirming that Yuki had entered the dream in the state of a completely ordinary human, the innocence of this bunch of brats genuinely amused the Chaotic Evil Demon Lord.
“You of all people. If you had not sealed your memories, maybe you would have had one or two methods that could threaten me. But now? Magical beasts, magic, falling into a bottomless abyss. Pray that your little boyfriend at least dies in a somewhat dignified way.”
“Even though you cannot react, you can see and hear everything happening in this dream, right? Watching your precious little boyfriend walk step by step toward his death with your own eyes. Does it feel despairing?”
Mocking her junior without the slightest dignity of a senior, Belonia’s twisted sense of humor surfaced once again. She had no intention of letting Yuki die so quickly. Not only to torment him, but also to torment his adorable little girlfriend.
“If only you had not fallen for him, maybe he would not have to suffer like this. This is all your fault. As a Demon Lord, you actually associated with a lowly human and even let yourself be charmed by him? Disgraceful.”

—————
The perspective shifted back to Yuki. Still being chased by the beast behind him, he could not help but feel a trace of regret.
Of course he was not regretting barging in to save Eiru. He just felt that he was accomplishing absolutely nothing here, wasting such a precious opportunity to rescue someone.
He really should not have been provoked by that girl and rushed in on impulse. Logically speaking, as a hero, Xixia should have had a higher chance of success. With how often her chuunibyou flared up, maybe in a dream she would just let her imagination run wild, grab some weapon out of nowhere, and start mowing everything down.
However, when he ran into a field of scattered boulders, the situation changed. Thanks to his usual training, Yuki’s stamina was quite good. With his much smaller frame compared to the beast behind him, he began weaving nimbly through the rocks, circling and maneuvering around the larger creature.
This time the griffin felt like it had overplayed its hand. The mass of rocks obstructed its movement. After circling around for a while, the small prey ahead disappeared from its sight.
The griffin lost Yuki. At the same time, after running in circles for a while, Yuki also lost track of it. With neither side knowing the other’s location, Yuki did not dare move rashly. He leaned against a giant boulder to catch his breath and rest. If he ran blindly and bumped straight into it, he would really be done for.
“So this is a live action monster torturing humans? At least give me a weapon. So Lu Brat plays games in her dreams every day, huh?”
He adjusted his mindset through joking, using the brief rest to think of a countermeasure.
Very quickly, though, Yuki came to understand the meaning of the phrase sore loser.

Unable to find its prey among the rocks, the enraged griffin let out a piercing screech. An invisible pressure began spreading from its body.
If the map was too complicated and the field of vision severely obstructed, what then?
Then simply turn it into open ground.
Driven by mana, a powerful wind pressure mixed with wind blades sharp enough to split boulders in half erupted outward. Unable to win at hide and seek against Yuki, the magical beast directly flipped the chessboard.
In an instant, the rocky field was cleared into a plain. By the time Yuki crawled up from the smoke and dust of shattered stone, the sight before him left him stunned. If he had not reacted quickly just now and sensed something wrong in time to throw himself flat, he would have been reduced to rubble along with the giant boulder behind him.
“So you really cannot take losing, huh?”
Looking at the griffin in front of him, its beak wide open and clearly gathering something, Yuki sensed that he was about to die. Yet his mood was strangely calm.
Beasts had no such thing as mercy. With another shrill screech, the wind pressure surged toward Yuki again. He did not close his eyes like in some movie scene. Instead he stared straight at the attack he had absolutely no way of resisting.
But at the very last moment, Yuki saw a massive black shadow suddenly leap in front of him. With an earth shattering crash, the shadow took the fatal blow in his place.

Under the remaining wind pressure, Yuki instinctively raised his hand to shield himself. When he opened his eyes, what met his gaze was a pair of eyeballs the size of half a head.
“What the hell?”
The sudden fright made Yuki curse for once. But after he clearly saw the appearance of the giant in front of him, the shock on his face abruptly turned into disbelief and joy.
“Goo goo yi waao!”
“You are… Hulu?!”
Although its cry and size had changed, that familiar voice allowed Yuki to recognize the little fellow in front of him.
“Goo!”
Clearly delighted to be recognized, Hulu stuck out its tongue and licked Yuki once. Before he could react, Hulu’s fluffy massive body had already wrapped him tightly in its embrace.
