Demon King – Chapter 842 – A Not-So-Impressive Demon Lord and Hero
Inside the haunted house, watching the three girls in front huddled together, Yuki and Hui Jiaqi were already covering their mouths in the back, trying not to burst out laughing.
Meanwhile, the little Demon Lord sandwiched in the middle, hugged on both sides by two girls, looked at their terrified expressions. For a moment she wanted to say something, but somehow found herself completely speechless.
“Waaaaah! What even is this?!”
“Sis! Sis!!!”
The speechless feeling temporarily overpowered her fear. Her Majesty the Demon Lord’s face was filled with utter despair. The two of them clung tightly to her, trembling nonstop. They were just short of hanging off her like koalas.
“Hey, aren’t you a Hero? Can you at least pull yourself together? This is embarrassing, okay?”
‘Little Eiya was still a middle schooler, fine, that was understandable… But I’m scared of this stuff too! And you call yourself a Hero? Why are you acting even more embarrassing than me?’
Clicking her tongue, just as she was about to continue lecturing the utterly shameful Hero girl beside her, a ghostly face suddenly popped right into Eiru’s field of vision.
“WAAAAAH!!! NOOO!!! HELP!!!”
And so, an even more ear-piercing scream than the previous two echoed through the dark haunted house for a long, long time.
“Hey, Yuki, you sure you’re not going to help?”
Hui Jiaqi was already leaning against the wall, laughing so hard he could barely stand straight. Watching the three girls eat dirt like this was absolutely hilarious to him.
But what surprised him was that Yuki, who usually doted on Eiru so much, was actually standing back with him and watching the show.
“It’s fine. Three of them hugging together, let them scream it out slowly… It won’t scare them to death.”

A perfectly good two-person world had been turned into a group outing by Eiru. Yuki still had some resentment in his heart. As punishment, he might as well let the haunted house staff scare this mischievous loli a bit. She was the one who chose this place anyway.
“Tsk tsk tsk, shameful, Lu Brat. You’re actually pushing Little Eiya and Dummy Xia in front as shields. Back when you were little, didn’t you protect your sister when you came to places like this?”
“No no no, Lu Brat is a professional teammate seller, okay? But only when there’s no real danger. As long as there’s no danger, she sells them with great enthusiasm.”
Eiru, who loved messing around on a daily basis, had never been shy about throwing her teammates under the bus. From an outsider’s perspective, it would probably be hard to imagine that someone who enjoyed pushing her teammates into pits was actually extremely protective.
So protective that it had become instinct. Even when she was scared, she had two completely different behavioral modes. And as both her best friend and her lover, Yuki had been lucky enough to witness both.
“Because she knows there’s no danger, she dares to push her teammates forward. When she was little, she probably didn’t know haunted houses were harmless, so she desperately protected Little Eiya.”
Thinking back to when the two of them ran into that real “ghost village,” this girl had clearly been scared to death, yet she still treated protecting him as top priority the entire time. When she sensed something was wrong, she had even stepped forward herself to scout the way.
“Wait, if she knows there’s no danger, then what is she even scared of?” Hui Jiaqi understood the logic, but it still felt strange.
“Instinct, I guess. Anyway, she’s just scared of ghosts and stuff…”
Watching the loli trying to run away but getting dragged back by her own sister in a comical scene, Hui Jiaqi laughed, then suddenly thought of something. He reached out and patted Yuki’s shoulder.
“Yuki, I suggest you go check on Lu Brat.”
“Why’s that?”
“Didn’t you say before that she needs more stimulation and exposure to things so she can recover from that emotionless state sooner?”

Hui Jiaqi had already heard from Yuki that his childhood friend’s current condition was temporary. So when that thought crossed his mind, he suddenly felt a bit worried.
“You said she’s normal right now. But what if the stimulation’s too much… and she gets scared back into that puppet-like state or something?”
He turned his head and realized he hadn’t even finished speaking. The big guy beside him was already gone. Looking again, Yuki had already run over to his girlfriend and pulled her protectively into his arms.
“What the hell? That fast?”
“It’s okay, it’s okay, Lu Brat. I’m here…”
“Stupid Yuki! Stupid Yuki?! Wuuu…”
Shrinking in Yuki’s arms and trembling, the little Demon Lord seemed to have found her savior. She buried her little head straight into his chest, turning into a tiny ostrich.
Eiya, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. Hui Jiaqi only wanted to keep watching her make a fool of herself. Faced with the occasional jump scares popping out, the two girls clinging together never stopped screaming.
“Big Sis Hero! Do something! Isn’t protecting everyone your responsibility?!”
“Little Demon Lord! What are you doing?! Waaaah! I can’t take it anymore! Even Heroes have weaknesses! The enemy is too strong!”
‘What kind of haunted house is this? Why do I just feel like laughing at grass…’
Holding Eiru in his arms while internally complaining about this bizarre scene, Yuki rubbed the little loli’s head and continued enjoying the spectacle of the two girls getting scared out of their wits.

“S-Stupid Yuki, my legs feel a bit weak…”
Supported by Yuki, the little Demon Lord walked unsteadily. The haunted house stimulation had clearly been a bit too much for her.
“So embarrassing… and you still call yourself a Demon Lord?”
Xixia sat on a nearby chair, a confident smile plastered on her face.
Eiru rolled her eyes at her, about to retort, when she noticed Xixia’s legs were still trembling nonstop.
“Embarrassing? Then stand up and walk a few steps, you dummy.”
“No, no. The Hero has the responsibility to protect everyone. I must guard this ominous land to prevent others from mistakenly entering.”
“Then I suggest Your Majesty go guard the inside.”
“No, no. I think the inside is more suitable as a Demon Lord’s castle.”
“Then you should go in and fight even more!”
‘So the Demon Lord and the Hero are both sore losers, huh? Their mouths sure are tough…’
Listening to the two bicker, Hui Jiaqi complained internally while holding Eiya, who was now reduced to nothing but “ah-ba ah-ba” sounds, on his lap. One hand gently stroked her back like he was smoothing a cat’s fur.
“Brother… Brother Jiaqi, I know you’re always like this, but why didn’t you help just now?”

“Probably because it was fun?”
Hui Jiaqi grinned wickedly. Back when they went to haunted houses as kids, he had always been the one watching from behind too.
“But now I’m your girlfriend! Shouldn’t you have… wuu…”
“Alright, alright, be good. Think about it. At least if I don’t go over, you two can still hug each other. If I went over to hug you, that unlucky Dummy Xia would have to go hug the ghost on the other side.”
As Hui Jiaqi said that, he seemed to imagine the scene in his head. Xixia shuddered violently.
That picture was far too beautiful. She didn’t dare think about it any further.
“What’s wrong? Dummy, chickened out?”
The little Demon Lord nudged Xixia with her elbow, flashing her signature mischievous grin.
“As if! A Hero bravely faces all challenges!”
“Alright, you two. If you keep bickering, I’m afraid I’ll make you two go inside alone for another round!”
With Yuki’s light shout, both the Demon Lord and the Hero obediently shut their mouths.
Looking at it this way, it’s not just the Demon Lord. This generation’s Hero doesn’t seem very impressive either.
