Demon King – Chapter 849 – Scouting the Abandoned School Building
It was still afternoon. Clearly broad daylight, yet the sunlight seemed unable to pass through the glass windows and shine into the interior. The entire building felt gloomy and oppressive.
“So… what exactly are we running in here for?”
“To scout, idiot.” The little Demon Lord knocked her sister lightly on the head and announced her plan to the two girls.
Based on the daily necessities that the bear parent had been carrying earlier, Eiru judged that they likely lived nearby. And speaking of this area of the Southern District, although she herself didn’t live here, she did know of a certain perfect place for adventure.
Calling it a great place for adventure was just a nicer way of saying it was an abandoned campus.
It used to be a fairly large middle school. Apparently, even before Eiru and Eiya were born, the school had relocated elsewhere, and the old campus buildings were simply left behind.
Logically, once a school relocates, the abandoned site should be demolished not long after. But for some unknown reason, perhaps due to issues with handover procedures, no one ever came to deal with this old campus.
With no one managing it, outsiders could freely enter and leave. The empty abandoned teaching buildings and gymnasium often attracted kids who liked playing adventure games to come here and mess around.
As time passed, all kinds of rumors began to spread. Maybe it was because the lighting in this school really was terrible. The gloomy atmosphere inevitably triggered people’s imaginations.
What school hasn’t had ghost stories? Let alone a dark, abandoned campus like this.
So gradually there were rumors of ghosts appearing here, of construction teams being too afraid to demolish the buildings and leaving them standing.
“But what if they don’t actually live nearby? And isn’t it possible that the little brat doesn’t even plan to come here to play?” Xixia asked.

The little Demon Lord smiled slightly and told them. “I’ve already read the script… pfft, I mean, I’ve already seen through the future. That little brat will definitely come here with his friends for an adventure.”
“So we scout the place, find a good position to ambush… Even if we really scare him, he’ll just think it’s the ghost from the urban legend. No one will investigate.”
‘But this place was genuinely scary!’
Even in broad daylight, barely any light got in. From time to time, cold drafts swept through the corridors.
Eiya and Xixia exchanged glances, seeing the exact same feeling reflected in each other’s eyes.
The two girls linked arms, huddling together for warmth to fend off their fear. Their trembling figures formed a sharp contrast to Eiru, who swaggered ahead.
“Seriously? You two are way too cowardly. First, this isn’t a haunted house. Second, it’s not some forbidden murder house or dangerous building. And you, dummy. With this courage you still call yourself a hero?”
Turning back to see their embarrassing state, Eiru wore a look of disdain. Paired with her mocking tone, the hero girl almost had the urge to roll up her sleeves and beat this punchable loli.
But at that moment, a gust of cold wind blew from not far away. The lighting inside seemed to dim several degrees more. Then came a creaking rattling sound from ahead, making Eiya and Xixia nearly jump in place.
Before they could react, they felt their bodies yanked backward by a force. When they came to their senses, they found themselves shielded tightly behind Eiru’s enormous wings.
Facing the direction of the sound, the little Demon Lord raised one hand. Around her, ten… even dozens of pale blue magic circles had appeared at some unknown moment. Her expression looked as if she were facing a great enemy.

Seeing Eiru’s reliable stance, the two girls felt a wave of reassurance.
Then they glanced down at her slightly trembling legs.
‘So the one reacting the most and the most scared was you?!’
‘Then what were you putting on that act for earlier?!’
Still, even though she was clearly terrified, she had stepped forward and shielded them.
Xixia suddenly recalled the time in the haunted house when a certain loli had screamed while shoving her own sister toward the “ghost.” It was impossible to connect that version of her with the reliable loli standing before them now.
“Squeak squeak…”
A mouse scurried out from the direction of the noise.
Realizing it was a false alarm, the girls let out a sigh of relief.
Well, except for Eiya. Upon seeing the mouse, her face turned even paler.
The little Demon Lord reacted quickly, grabbing a long broom that had been discarded nearby and directly chased the big rat away.
“But after that whole display, honestly I’m suddenly not that scared anymore.”

Watching Eiru swing the broom, Xixia leaned over and whispered to Eiya.
“Little Demon Lord just now could’ve flattened this entire building. Like they say, all fear comes from insufficient firepower. I finally get it.”
With this kind of mobile heavy artillery at her side, Xixia felt like she was playing a zombie game with a Terminator next to her.
‘This was basically cheating. What was there to be afraid of?’
So now the situation of the three girls shifted again.
The little Demon Lord walked ahead to scout, while simultaneously using her wings to guard the rear, ensuring nothing could sneak up behind and snatch the other two away.
Suddenly transformed from a teammate who pushed allies into danger into a reliable big sister figure, even Xixia felt a little unaccustomed to it. And Eiya, who knew her sister’s personality best, was even more unused to it.
With her bluff exposed, Eiru no longer swaggered like before. She moved cautiously, especially with those slightly trembling legs that made the scene unintentionally funny.
With her protection, the two girls behind her became far less timid. They even chatted and laughed softly, forming a complete reversal from the beginning.
“Hey, don’t you two act so calm. Look at the atmosphere, will you?! This place is seriously creepy. Being careless will get us into trouble! Don’t rely entirely on me to protect you!”
“Seriously? With you like this, you’re still a Demon Lord? Who was the one who said there was nothing to be afraid of? Besides, you can demolish this building anytime. What are you scared of?”

Remembering how Eiru had mocked her earlier, Xixia returned the favor in nearly the same tone.
The silver haired loli puffed up her cheeks in annoyance.
“How about we call it a day? Let’s head back?”
Seeing that her sister was genuinely scared, and honestly not wanting to stay in this gloomy place any longer, Eiya suggested.
“You think I don’t want to go back?” As if triggered by those words, the little Demon Lord’s voice suddenly turned aggrieved.
Hearing the slight tremble in her tone, the two girls dropped their teasing attitude and sensed something was wrong.
“We’ve been walking forward the whole time, right? The corridor hasn’t had any turns…”
Following the direction Eiru’s trembling finger pointed, Eiya and Xixia saw a broom lying on the floor.
Wasn’t that the exact broom the loli had just used to chase away the mouse and casually tossed aside?
“We’re trapped! We can’t get out at all! Otherwise, why do you think I’ve been so tense protecting you two?!”
