Demon King – Chapter 853 – Yuki Looking Toward the Future
“Based on my observations, I’ve roughly figured out their movement patterns!”
After finally shaking off the ghost swarm and hiding in an empty classroom to catch their breath, Xixia suddenly dropped that shocking statement.
It turned out she had not just been screaming while being dragged around by Eiru the whole time. Seeing the puzzled looks from the other two, the hero girl continued explaining the conclusions she had drawn.
“When the little Demon Lord was on the phone, she held it to her right ear, right? Then the number of ghosts on the left side clearly decreased. They seemed attracted to it, and quite a few gathered to the right.”
‘So those things actually reacted to phones?’
Thinking about it, the ghosts had indeed shown up just as they were about to make a call. The two sisters felt that Xixia’s analysis was not unreasonable.
The ghosts were clearly searching for targets through sight and hearing. Aside from having no physical bodies and being able to pass through walls, which made them hard to detect, avoiding them did not actually seem that difficult.
So if they could figure out the ghosts’ movement patterns, it would be a huge help in their current situation… though they still had no idea what would actually happen if they were truly touched.
“Anyway, if that’s the case, should we just throw the phones away first?”
Calling for help did not seem very useful in this situation. If phones might cause them to be detected, throwing them away did sound logical. But Eiya’s very reasonable suggestion was immediately met with fierce opposition from her dear sister.
“No! If you want to throw yours, throw it. I’m not throwing mine!”

“Sis, be good, don’t be stubborn. I know you’re frugal, but at a time like this… once we get out, I’ll buy you a new one, okay?”
“No! Stupid Yuki gave this to me! I’m absolutely not throwing it away!”
The little Demon Lord clutched the phone tightly to her chest, looking as if she were afraid someone would snatch away her treasure.
This was a gift from Yuki. It was not just a phone. Eiru treasured it so much that she even wiped it carefully with alcohol soaked cloth every day. Now that they were asking her to throw it away, there was no way she would agree.
“Even though… even though I know this is kind of… but can’t we not throw it away? Anything else is fine, but I really don’t want to lose this phone.”
Realizing that her attitude was a bit unreasonable under the circumstances, the little Demon Lord’s tone suddenly softened. There was even a faint sobbing tremor in her voice that made one’s heart ache.
“Don’t panic, don’t panic. After you hung up, the ghosts went back to their original positions. Maybe they only react to phones when the screen is lit?”
Seeing how much Eiru treasured her phone, Xixia quickly stepped in to smooth things over… though mentioning such an important detail only now really made one want to complain.
“Since you brought that up, though, I noticed something too.”
The little Demon Lord said she had not been simply counterattacking and running either. Like Xixia, she had carefully observed the ghosts’ reactions during the chase. But what she concluded was something else entirely.

Maybe it was just her imagination, but Eiru felt that the ghosts showed particularly strong hostility toward her. Toward the other two girls, it felt more like they were trying to scare them.
Even the ghost that had almost pounced on Eiya’s face had kept its skeletal claws curled at the last moment. As for the ones that went after Xixia, they were basically slacking off, going through the motions without any real attack intent.
Even so, Her Majesty the Demon Lord had still punched away the ghost that had nearly pressed against Eiya’s face. She did not dare gamble on whether it truly had no attack intent. If something really happened, she would regret it forever.
The ghosts that attacked her, on the other hand, were clearly aggressive. Their sharp skeletal claws were raised, as if they wanted to pierce straight through her. But after seeing that Eiru could touch them and even fight back, they had become somewhat wary.
“So I think… their real target is only me. You two just got dragged into this.”
“Sis, you’re not thinking…” Eiya suddenly thought of one of the biggest taboos in horror movies. “You’re not planning to split up and lure them away by yourself, are you?”
“As if. Whether it’s true or not, I don’t have the guts to gamble on that possibility.”
The little Demon Lord rolled her eyes at her sister.
‘If the only one who could fight ran off, who would protect you two weak… wait? Xixia was not exactly weak either. But if she could not touch them, it was all the same.’
“Anyway, let’s figure out the pattern first. When we were running just now, I also confirmed something. Aside from not being able to leave through the main gate and not being able to access the rooftop, we can move freely everywhere else.”

There were connecting corridors between buildings. They could even seemingly run into the gymnasium through one of them. Overall, although they were trapped, their activity space was actually quite large.
No matter what kind of horror movie setup this was, there had to be some core rule behind it. As long as they figured out the rule and acted accordingly, leaving this place should not be impossible.
“My biggest fear right now is… what if the rule turns out to be something like only one person can leave…”
“It dares? I’ll just blow this place up and flatten every single building here.”
“Then why don’t you do that right now?”
“Because I don’t have enough mana!”

“Yuki, we’re just going to eat and meet to talk. You really don’t need to be picking outfits like this… wait, you’re even putting on a suit? Are you planning to marry her right now?”
Watching Yuki fuss over his clothes, Hui Jiaqi felt speechless. He thought Yuki was making too big a deal out of it and could not quite understand his best friend’s current mindset.
“If her dad wanted to talk to you about you and little Eiya, wouldn’t you want to dress more formally?”

“No.”
A question mark practically popped up over Yuki’s head as he wondered why Jiaqi was not following the normal script. But then he thought about the relationship between the two families… emmm? Forget he asked.
For Jiaqi, going to the sisters’ home was like going back to his own house. Naturally, he could not understand the nervousness in Yuki’s heart right now.
“As long as I perform well today, at the very least I can get engaged to Lu Brat directly. Engaged, do you understand?!”
As he spoke, Yuki carefully took out a delicate little box from his drawer under Jiaqi’s horrified gaze.
“For this day, I even prepared an engagement ring!”
“Dude, Yuki, you’re only seventeen, right? You’re planning way too far ahead! When the hell did you even prepare a ring?”
“Near the end of middle school, I think? After I confirmed I liked Lu Brat… back when she was still called Lu Loli?”
No, what the hell? You even prepared an engagement ring, planned to this extent, and back then you were still too scared to make the first move?
