Demon King – Chapter 938 – The Accident of a Prank
Early in the morning, inside a classroom for first-year high school students, a pink-haired girl with twin tails was sitting at her seat, fiddling with something unknown. From time to time, she let out a mischievous giggle.
“Yu Qiu, what are you messing around with again?”
A classmate leaned over curiously. But based on everyone’s understanding of her, they all knew this unlucky troublemaker was definitely crafting some kind of prop for her next prank.
“Hm? You’ll find out later~ Hiss!”
She suddenly sucked in a sharp breath. Not paying attention for a moment, Yu Qiu had scratched a shallow cut across the back of her hand. She didn’t react much. With practiced ease, she rinsed it with mineral water, wiped it clean, then casually slapped a band-aid over it.
“Huh? You’re actually using a band-aid?”
The surrounding classmates were already used to Yu Qiu showing up with injuries. But what surprised them was that she usually just rinsed her wounds and ignored them. Now she had actually learned to treat it properly?
“Hm? Yaya gave me a whole big pack of band-aids~ I can’t just waste them, right?”
She showed off the large pack inside her bag like she was flaunting treasure. Ignoring the slightly disgusted look from Eiya not far away, Yu Qiu’s face was full of pride.
A few days ago, when Yu Qiu happened to be near the school gate with Eiya, she accidentally spotted Yunxing on his way back to school. A prankish idea instantly popped into her mind.
He must have seen the two of them at the time, so Yu Qiu planned to climb over the wall and run ahead of Yunxing, who was obediently walking through the main gate and being forced to take the long route.
That way, when he saw her suddenly appear in front of him despite supposedly being far behind, he would be startled at least a little, right?

Acting on impulse, the mischievous girl ran straight to the unopened side gate of the school. When the worried Eiya followed to check on her, she saw something outrageous. This unlucky kid was actually climbing the fence next to the side gate.
It was obvious that Yu Qiu had some experience climbing walls, carrying a bit of her older sister’s flair. But the barbed wire on top of the fence inevitably left several cuts across her arms and calves, making Eiya’s heart tighten at the sight.
As if she didn’t even understand what pain was, Yu Qiu ignored the wounds on her arms and legs. The moment she landed, she was ready to sprint. Unable to stand it any longer, Eiya called out to her and passed a few band-aids through the fence.
They were classmates after all, and Yu Qiu really did have a pretty good relationship with her. Though she knew she couldn’t stop her from courting death, Eiya later went and bought a large pack of band-aids for her, telling her to at least take better care of her body.
Well, at least she knows to use band-aids now…
Eiya had originally wanted to scold her, but in the end she gave up, just drinking water silently with a speechless expression.
Looking at Yu Qiu, she could see a bit of Eiru’s past shadow in her. Just like Eiru before, Yu Qiu never took her own injuries seriously.
A loud bang suddenly interrupted Eiya’s thoughts.
Turning toward the sound, she saw Yu Qiu holding a strange homemade contraption, setting off air-burst explosions to scare the surrounding classmates.
“Why does she love messing with dangerous stuff so much…”
Looking at the traces of gunpowder still left on Yu Qiu’s desk, Eiya didn’t even know what to say anymore.

Is black powder something people our age should be messing with? If it were one of those toy guns from a convenience store that shoot blanks, fine. But if something went wrong with this homemade thing, wouldn’t that be a huge disaster?
“Don’t worry. I was in the same middle school class as Yu Qiu. She does this all the time.”
A classmate beside her seemed to notice Eiya’s concern and spoke up to explain.
“She gets hurt a lot while tinkering with these things, but she always makes sure no one else gets hurt… Her personality’s a bit awful, but she’s actually pretty nice.”
“Hopefully… Just don’t bring that nonsense over to me.”
Anyway, this has nothing to do with me. She can mess around however she wants.
Eiya rested her head on the desk, too lazy to look over there anymore. But very quickly, she realized she couldn’t stay uninvolved after all.
“Hehe! Yaya, eat my shot!”
Turning her head, Eiya saw that Yu Qiu had somehow appeared right in front of her. Half leaning over her desk, she grinned wickedly while holding that strange device in her hand. The silver-haired loli was so startled she nearly jumped out of her seat.
“Don’t! Don’t! Wait, it’ll explode—”
Eiya’s warning was only halfway out when Yu Qiu’s expression suddenly changed.

Maybe it was because of the heat. Maybe she hadn’t controlled the amount of powder properly. But she realized that the little device in her hands was deforming in an unexpected way.
Bang.
The explosion this time was on a completely different level from before. Not only the students in the class, even the teacher who had just arrived near the classroom was startled into rushing inside, eyes immediately locking onto this side.
“Ah, messed up…” Yu Qiu still wore that crooked grin, though there was now a trace of awkwardness in her expression.
“Y-Your hand?” Eiya was already stunned silly. Looking at Yu Qiu’s palm, where bright red liquid was still flowing, she stammered without knowing what to say.
“Huh? It just looks scary. I’ll wash it later and it’ll be fine… Hiss, okay, it does hurt a bit. Sorry for dripping on your desk. I’ll wipe it clean for you later.”
‘Just looks scary?’
Watching the crimson liquid drip drop by drop onto her desk, and seeing Yu Qiu trying to hide both hands behind her back, Eiya’s heart pounded in fear, and anger rose inside her as well.
At the moment before it exploded, Yu Qiu had directly covered it with both hands against the desk. At the same time, she turned her body to shield Eiya behind her. That was why no one else had been affected.
But the price was that both of Yu Qiu’s hands took the full force of the blast. The bloody mess was something these teenagers, who had just entered high school, could hardly stomach.
Yet the person involved herself still acted as if nothing had happened.

“Come with me to the infirmary! Now!”
Unable to watch any longer, Eiya grabbed Yu Qiu and dragged her straight out of the classroom. The rough movement made Yu Qiu yelp loudly.
“Hey hey hey! Didn’t I say washing it is enough? Don’t make a big deal out of it! Waaah, gentle! It hurts!”
When the homeroom teacher arrived afterward and saw the chaotic state of the classroom, hearing what had happened made him even more furious. He immediately launched into a scolding directed at the entire class.
“Didn’t I say this before? Those who harm others end up harming themselves! None of you better be like Yu Qiu, always messing with these pranks every day. Look what happened now!”
“But sir… even if Yu Qiu started it, she got hurt protecting Eiya, didn’t she?”
“Yeah, yeah. Yu Qiu likes pranks, but she’s never had the intention of hurting anyone, right? Isn’t it a bit too much to say that about her, sir?”
Although almost no one in the class had escaped Yu Qiu’s pranks, she actually had pretty good relationships with everyone.
So when the homeroom teacher criticized Yu Qiu like that, a few boys who couldn’t stand listening any longer stood up one after another to speak up for her…
