CHAPTER 162: THE PARTING WAYS PART 1

On the next day.

As it was previously reported, the main Strike Force finally arrived at the Jizu village.

It turned out that it was actually a group of both Adventurers and Knights all mixed together.

Their overall number was about one hundred men, or something really close to that amount.

Of course, there was just no way that such a huge number of people could possibly fit into the confines of such a small village in the first place.

So instead, the main Strike Force had set up an encampment in the open field right outside of the village and the provisional barricades that we managed to erect.

「Nyaah…… That’s a heck of a lot of people out there if you’d ask me…… It makes my head feel like it’s going to spin.」

Kanade opened her mouth, sharing her honest impressions with the rest of us.

She seemed surprised by the sheer size of the main Strike Force and she was constantly rolling her eyes here in disbelief.

But that being said , it was not all that hard to understand where her astonishment was actually coming from.

Because I knew that this situation was pretty abnormal.

It was not every single day that you would get to see such a large group of both Adventurers and Knights working together in a joint expedition.

This current Devil incident……

Just how important it is to the ones at the top of both the Adventurers’ Guild and the Knights’ Order to put an end to it, and to do that as soon as possible?

Just how serious are they about this?

Now, the sight that was spreading right in front of our eyes made for a perfect answer for both of those questions.

「Oh, there you guys are! Hey!」

Hearing someone’s voice I turned around and saw Ax and Cell approaching us.

「The main Strike Team is going to have a strategy meeting right now. And they wanted to let you guys know that they want us to attend it as well.」

「They want us to attend as well? Even though we are technically part of the Investigation Team and we have nothing to do with this?」

「Well, be that as it may, we are the only ones who managed to directly deal with the Devil and live to tell the tale. So they want to know our opinion, as the sort of experts on the subject.」

「And they also said that they really wanted to talk to you guys, because based on your insight and opinions, their future policies might get changed in a rather big and significant way.」

「Hmm…… I see. Alright, I understand. I’m going to be there in just a moment. Does that mean that Kanade and the others should wait here until I get back?」

「Oh, yes, about that. Wouldn’t it be too much trouble if Kanade came with you as well?」

Cell added as if she just managed to remember about something now.

「Nyan?　Me too?」

「Perhaps, as a member of the Ultimate Species, they would like to hear your opinion on the subject as well. Because the more information you have about the creature that you are about to face in combat, the better your chances at emerging victorious at the end of the day. And surely enough, they want to have those chances to be as high as possible.」

「Nyah…… Even though we have no intentions whatsoever of fighting with that girl.」

「Hm? What was that? Did you say something just now?」

「N-Nothing! It’s nothing! But anyways, roger that! Let’s go!」

「Okay, but with that being said, can you wait just a moment? I would like to go and tell everyone else at the inn that we are going to attend the meeting, so that they won’t have to worry about our whereabouts.」

「Yeah, sure, no problem. But I’m sorry to say this, but be quick about it. We don’t have time to lose.」

With that being said, I left Ax and Cell and we headed to the inn with Kanade.

「Rain, Rain?」

「Yeah? What is it?」

「Do you think that we are going to be incorporated into the main Strike Force as well?」

「…… I think that the probability of something like that happening is quite high, indeed.」

「But if that’s going to happen, then whatever are we supposed to do?」

「Well, we are going to resist that idea, of course.」

We are not going to fight and kill Iris. Rather than that, I want to try and save her, if possible.

That’s the choice that I have made here.

After returning to the inn and relaying the recent revelations to everyone else in a quick fashion……

Kanade and I moved to the large tent that the main Strike Team had set up at the outskirts of town, where the meeting was supposed to take place.

When we entered the tent, Ax and Cell were already there.

The other participants were of course Adventurers and Knights.

And then there was also someone else……

「Ohh! Well, well, well! If it isn’t Rein and Kanade! It’s been a while, you two!」

「Oh, Stella? Yes, it’s certainly been a while.」

Stella, who was supposed to be the Knight Commander of the Knights Order of the City of Horizon, was here for some reason.

「Why are you here?」

「Well, you see, I got called in here as backup for the Strike Team. Originally, there should have been someone else who was way more qualified for this job than I am, but for some reason, I have been given the task of organizing the knights and bringing them here instead.」

「Well, I think that you are precisely the right woman for the job, Stella. After all, you have the making of a great leader, so there shouldn’t be a problem with you being here.」

「Thanks, but you can spare me the needless flattery. I know it more than anyone else here that I am nowhere near as ready to be a part of something as grand as this.」

We then shook hands as a gesture of our sudden reunion.

「But still…… When I heard that you guys had left the town to go on that Emergency Request, I knew that we might meet again sooner rather than later, but to actually see you in a place like this…… What a small world we live in, huh?」

「Yeah, you can say that again.」

「Alright then…… I know that you guys just managed to get here, but we have to start the meeting right away. So please bear with me for a while, okay?」

「Sure thing.」

Kanade and I then sat down at the seats that we were led to.

And not long after that, the meeting began in earnest.

First order of business was for us to share with everyone every single bit and piece of information that we managed to obtain on the Devil…… on Iris, and bring everyone else up to speed.

Myself, Kanade, Ax and Cell…… we all testified one after another as to what Iris’s abilities and battle potential were.

A summoning magic that has no restrictions and can be used indefinitely.
