CHAPTER 167: THE VESSEL PART 2
「Yes, I do realize that. However, this is exactly what they mean by saying that you reap what you sow. So if it comes to that, humanity certainly deserves what’s coming for them. It’s a huge gamble, but…… It’s at the very least a better alternative than Iris dying needlessly.」
「Just to make sure: you DO realize that what you are doing is extremely selfish and egotistical?」
「Yes, I am perfectly aware of that fact. No need to remind me.」
「So, you are aware that what you are doing is solely for your own sake and satisfaction, but you still insist on threading down that exact path……」
Aru-san looked surprised for a moment out there.
Next, she stared at me really intently.
「Well, now that I take a good look at you…… I think that if there was ever someone who would be able to reach and touch Iris’s heart, it would most definitely be you, Rein.」
「Yes, I want to do just that. And I swear that I WILL make that happen.」
「My, my, someone’s full of confidence here, hm? Kukuku, you certainly are an interesting fellow, I must say.」
Aru-san then smiled at me.
It was a smile that seemed somewhat gentle and filled with kindness.
「Umu, umu. I understand what you said, Rein. And I also acknowledge your conviction. You managed to convince me.」
「D-Does that mean……?」
「But you see, the method that was used to seal Iris away is one of the most secret techniques and treasures of the entire Spirit Tribe. So even though I know that you are earnest in your desire to help Iris, I simply cannot teach you just like that, especially if the thing that you wish to know is considered to be on the level of a treasure of our entire race. And of course, part of that reason is our hatred and animosity towards humans. To put it simply, as a whole, we the Spirit Tribe couldn’t even care less about what is going to happen to you all.」
「Muuh, Mother, that’s so mean of you!」
「Well then, what is it that you would want us to do for you to teach us that sealing technique?」
Hearing her daughters’ words of protest, Aru couldn’t help herself but to chuckle slightly.
「Well, isn’t that part actually quite obvious? No matter the times, when you think that something is truly necessary, then the best way to show your sincerity is to prove your own strength, wouldn’t you agree?」
「So that’s how it’s going to play out, huh……?」
Hearing those words, I involuntarily assumed a battle stance, expecting Aru-san to start being violent with us at any moment now, but……
Surprisingly enough, Aru-san did not do anything.
「…… That is what I would normally like to say in a situation like that. However……」
「…… Hm?」
「However, I owe you a debt of gratitude for the help that you have given to my daughters in their time of need, Rein. And you can be sure that I am going to repay that debt of gratitude to the fullest.」
「So, does that mean……?」
.
「Umu, umu! If it is my help that you require to succeed with this, then it is my help that you shall get.
Smiling brightly, Aru-san reassured us.
「I mean, this is certainly one heck of a confusing way to do things……」
「If you were going to help us from the start, then you should have said so, Mother!」
「Oh, yeah, sure, I could have done that. But doing that would be SO boring, right? Besides, I really wanted to see for myself just what kind of a person this Rein was. That, and I wanted to personally judge his character.」
Despite the fact that her daughters were glaring daggers at her this entire time, Aru-san managed to retain a cool and composed face.
Hmm, I see.
When she says something like that, you could really feel the parental worry and curiosity beaming from her. It was just a thing that I would assume a loving mother would do.
A mother. An existence that no child out there could ever hope to go against, even if they really tried.
「So, about that way in which we can seal Iris away……?」
「Hmm, yes, that’s right…… Well, of course the process of sealing her away will require the use of Sealing Magic. Now, even though Sealing Magic is considered to be special, it is really just a very powerful Super-Grade magic. This means that both Sora and Luna should be able to learn and master it rather easily.」
「Fufufun! Yes! As you would expect of two magical prodigies like us! This is going to be a piece of cake!」
Declaring that in a somewhat happy tone, Luna puffed out her chest with pride.
Maybe she was happy to be praised by Aru-san and having her magical talents acknowledged like that.
「But Mother, if you want to teach the Sealing Magic to us, does that mean that you won’t be coming with us? Are you sure that the two of us are going to be enough for this?」
Maybe Sora was right in being worried like that. I mean, since it was Aru-san who performed that Sealing Magic before, it would only stand to reason to have her do it again. Not to mention that it would also be a whole lot more reassuring.
「Yes, that would certainly be ideal here, but sadly, I cannot do that. I have a gatekeeping duty that needs to be fulfilled, you see. So I can’t really leave my post. Especially after certain people decided to just straight up ditch their own posts.」
「Ugh!」
「There’s that, but besides that…… Do you really want to leave something as important as this in the hands of some outsider?」
「No, we wouldn’t want that. That is why we are going to settle this matter on our own, with our own power.」
Yes, what Aru-san said here was basically correct.
We can’t just let someone else take care of Iris’s problem for us. That would be entirely meaningless and would go against everything that we managed to accomplish up until this point.
We are the ones who declared that we are going to save Iris. So it is our responsibility to see this matter through to the very end.」
「Umu, umu! That’s the spirit! But that being said……」
「That being said……?」
「There is just one tiny problem with what you want to accomplish here. You are going to need a vessel that is going to keep Iris contained inside of it.」
「A vessel?」
Visibly intrigued by that word, Luna tilted her head to the side in puzzlement.
On the other hand, I kind of understood right away what Aru-san was trying to say here.
After all, the shrine where Iris was originally sealed away…… It used to contain some sort of item inside.
Perhaps it was even a Legendary-Grade Magic Item.
So it is only right to assume that said item must have been used as a medium which was containing Iris all those years.
