Samuel relayed the order.

A moment later, a faint tremor moved through the floor as water entered the lower channel. Not the main penstock yet. Only the bypass to clear air and check flow.

The pressure gauge moved slightly.

Stable.

No shouting from outside.

Good.

"Main gate at one quarter."

The order passed along the signal line.

For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then the penstock began to speak.

A deep, muffled sound traveled through the pipe beneath the hillside. Water entered the line, pushing air ahead of it, filling the cast-iron length section by section. The pressure gauge climbed slowly.

Five meters.

Ten.

Fifteen.

Twenty.

Twenty-four.

It stopped just below the full static head.

Ernest watched the needle without blinking.

No sudden drop.

No hammering.

No vibration.

"Guide vanes closed?"

"Closed," Samuel confirmed.
