The Lighting Ceremony Part 1

The messenger disappeared into the growing twilight, urging his horse toward the telegraph office erected beside the power station gates.

King Edward watched him go.

"I almost forgot," he said quietly. "The telegraph."

Ernest nodded.

"It seemed appropriate."

Lord Ashford smiled faintly.

"The order to begin the electrical demonstration is being delivered by another one of your inventions."

"It saves several minutes."

The Prime Minister chuckled.

"I suppose it does."

Within moments, the telegraph key inside the station began clicking.

Samuel Wren stood beside the switchboard when the operator looked up from the receiver.

"Message from the royal carriage."

Samuel accepted the written slip.

PROCEED WITH FULL DEMONSTRATION.

BY ORDER OF HIS MAJESTY.

He folded the paper once before looking around the control room.
