Volume 1, Chapter 52 – Let’s Go Shopping for Magic!
“Just by using a magic crystal, you can learn the corresponding spell? Little Fia, are you serious?”
In the backyard of the clinic, Claire’s voice rang out, filled with disbelief.
After finishing breakfast, the two had come to the backyard to begin magic lessons. But when Claire explained the basic principles of magic, Fia told her that as long as she obtained a magic crystal, she could use the spell stored within it.
Faced with Claire’s astonishment, Fia could only smile awkwardly.
“I’m absolutely not lying to you, Claire. I don’t even know what elements are. So when you said that using magic requires first communicating with elements using one’s own mana, I couldn’t understand it at all.”
Though the reason she could learn magic was due to [Hypercomputation], Fia had no clue what [Hypercomputation] actually was. Moreover, something so obviously originating from the Human Alliance would undoubtedly be unknown to Claire. Not to mention, the two were currently speaking in Milcandis Holy Tongue—translating the Human Alliance term [Hypercomputation] for Claire would be another challenge entirely.
“Not even knowing what elements are, yet still able to use magic… Little Fia, you’re just as strange as I am.”
Claire’s gaze at Fia grew increasingly peculiar.
It was like someone solving a math problem without showing any working steps yet still writing down the correct answer—utterly unbelievable.
“Ahaha… Actually, it’s not just learning spells from crystals instantly. The magic I cast is always slightly stronger than the spell stored in the crystal, too.”

“That part isn’t an issue. Normally, spells cast directly are indeed more powerful than those released through magic crystals. Let’s skip investigating the reason for now—what spells can Fia use at the moment?”
“[Fairy Fire] and [Wind Blade].”
“Show me.”
“Okay.”
If she used [Fairy Fire] at the level of a flame storm, half the clinic would undoubtedly be blown to pieces. Fia ultimately opted for the fireball form of [Fairy Fire]. As for [Wind Blade], she kept it to a length of two meters.
So far, Fia had only tested the limits of [Fairy Fire]—its maximum casting range was 500 yards, and the upper limit for a single summoning was 120 fireballs. She hadn’t yet explored the limits of [Wind Blade].
Thinking this, Fia raised both hands, preparing to summon a fireball and a wind blade simultaneously using the information left in her mind by [Hypercomputation]—but before she could, Claire stopped her.
“Where’s your magic staff?”
As she spoke, Claire handed Fia a silver-colored short staff, only about a foot long.

The staff was exquisitely crafted, its gracefully curved shaft gleaming with a metallic sheen. At its tip was a magic gem shaped like two nested crescents—one large, one small—of different colors. The crescent-shaped gemstone didn’t actually touch the staff but hovered eerily above it, as if connected by an invisible force. No matter how the staff was shaken, the gemstone never separated from its tip.
Combined with the intricate carvings along the shaft, it looked more like a piece of art.
Even without asking, Fia knew this staff was incredibly expensive.
“This is a magic staff I acquired during my travels. Since I’m not a pure spellcaster, it’s of little use to me. I’ll entrust it to you, Fia.”
“No—”
“Don’t refuse. Consider it part of my apology. If you don’t accept it, I’ll have to assume you’re still angry with me.”
With that, Claire forcefully pushed the staff into Fia’s hands.
“…Thank you.”
With a complicated expression, Fia accepted the staff. Though she didn’t need a magic staff to cast spells, Claire had made it clear—she’d just have to find another way to repay the favor later.
After all, casting magic without a staff in this world was like writing without a pen. Having a staff as a prop, even if just for show, would help avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

Once ready, Fia raised the staff and cast [Fairy Fire] and [Wind Blade].
A massive fireball one meter in diameter and a two-meter-long cyan wind blade materialized instantly. Almost immediately, the two felt a scorching heat on their skin, and a sharp buzzing filled their ears.
Claire’s expression grew increasingly complex.
“This is what Fia calls ‘slightly stronger’ than normal magic? If it were any larger, it could already qualify as second-tier magic. And setting aside the fact that I didn’t hear any incantations, casting two different elemental spells simultaneously is something I’ve only seen in beings with the highest magical aptitude—like moon dragons, the most magically gifted among dragons. Little Fia truly lives up to being the Elf Kingdom’s top genius. Let me test the spells’ stability.”
After observing the magic circling Fia for a moment, Claire poked the [Fairy Fire] and [Wind Blade] with her icy crystal rapier.
“Even when disturbed by an external object, they show no signs of dispersing. The mana fluctuations during casting are also no different from a normal spellcaster’s. This really is magic Fia cast herself… I’ve never heard of anyone who could learn spells just by shattering a crystal. If such people existed, wouldn’t that mean shattering a forbidden spell crystal would let them instantly master it? Unless Fia is playing a prank on me, calling her a ‘genius’ alone isn’t enough—she’s practically a born spellcaster.”
That’s pretty rude to people who actually study magic properly…
Thinking this in her heart, Fia waved her hand and willed the fireball and wind blade to dissipate.
“But I still can’t sense elements at all.”
“Hmm… Not being able to see elements is a serious problem. Though it doesn’t matter now, it’ll definitely cause all sorts of strange issues later. For example, this sword of mine can’t be used without understanding elements. Since Fia can skip the process of communicating with elements, you could first learn [Mana Vision] from a magic crystal and then observe them. But I don’t usually carry spell crystals, so we’ll need to visit the Mage Association.”

“W-wait, Claire, I want to know what that sword of yours is.”
When Claire had used it yesterday, Fia hadn’t seen the process. But just now, she witnessed Claire summoning the icy rapier—with just a downward flick of her hand, the glowing blue blade appeared in Claire’s grasp. It was incredibly cool, something Fia couldn’t help but want to learn.
Claire waved the rapier lightly.
“This? It’s an [Enchanted Blade], something only third-tier or higher warriors can use. Though Fia isn’t a warrior, I recall the Elf Princess has already reached the seventh tier, so learning it shouldn’t be hard. But the prerequisite for using an [Enchanted Blade] is first establishing a connection with elements, then condensing them into a weapon. Everything depends on Fia being able to see elements. No time to waste—let’s head out now. We can also buy some other magic crystals along the way so Fia can learn more spells.”
Dismissing the rapier, Claire pulled out a deep blue gemstone from who-knows-where and playfully shook it at Fia.
A gem coin.
The highest-denomination currency, crafted from high-purity magic crystals. One gem coin was equivalent to 100 gold coins. Typically, only nobles with family fortunes carried them.
“Fia can just pick whichever spells she likes~”
Saying this, Claire winked, her expression brimming with delight.
