Volume 1, Chapter 61 – New Magic
Happy times always pass quickly. By the time Fia finished selecting her magic, it was already afternoon.
In addition to essential daily-life spells like [Cleanse], [Illuminate], and [Water Breathing], Fia also got her hands on the spells she had longed to learn—[Mana Vision], [Ice Bullet], and [Torrent].
Unfortunately, since the Milcandis Holy Kingdom was a theocratic state, its people favored divine magic over traditional spells. As a result, the Mage Association in Aurora City was exceptionally poor and lacked the resources to collect powerful magic. This shattered Fia’s dream of expanding her magical repertoire with forbidden spells.
Still, Fia made some other gains. She acquired [Mental Shock], a spell that could incapacitate enemies without causing fatal harm, [Beginner Water Healing] for treating minor injuries, and—most valuable of all—[Flight]. Once she mastered Flight Magic, she would no longer be bound by the earth and could soar freely through the skies.
It should be noted that only [Mana Vision] and [Torrent] were purchased in the form of magic scrolls and magic crystals. The rest came as magical knowledge recorded in spellbooks, meaning Fia would first have to study the incantations before attempting to master them.
Though somewhat troublesome, learning pre-existing knowledge was the least of Fia’s worries.
Additionally, Fia took a liking to a magical artifact called the [Spatial Backpack]. She had never understood how Claire and Anastasia could seemingly pull items out of thin air until she read the description of the [Spatial Backpack]. It turned out that magic in this world could create sub-spaces, allowing objects to be stored indefinitely within them.

The [Spatial Backpack] was precisely such a sub-space-creating artifact.
Now, the two of them stood in an underground chamber constructed from bluish-gray stone blocks. The hall was spacious—roughly the size of two basketball courts combined. Thanks to the large, luminous magic crystals embedded in the walls and ceiling, the space was far from dim.
This was the Mage Association’s underground testing grounds.
Normally, the testing grounds were off-limits to outsiders. However, their transaction—worth a staggering fifty gold coins—was a massive windfall for Aurora City’s Mage Association. So when Claire requested to use the underground facility, the overjoyed young clerk eagerly agreed.
Claire’s voice echoed through the underground chamber.
“Let’s start with the magic scroll. According to Fia, simply using a magic crystal allows her to learn the spell stored within it. Since magic scrolls function similarly, the same principle should apply.”

Magic scrolls were also pre-charged with spells. The difference was that while magic crystals required mana infusion to activate, scrolls could be used by anyone—just unroll or tear them, and the spell would trigger automatically.
Claire handed Fia the [Spatial Backpack] containing the spellbooks and scrolls.
Though called a “backpack,” it was more akin to a pouch—small enough to hang from a belt without feeling cumbersome.
Claire probably wanted Fia to familiarize herself with using the [Spatial Backpack].
Following the instructions in the spellbook, Fia channeled mana into the backpack and reached inside. From her perspective, her hand seemed to vanish completely, yet she could still feel it and even touch the edges of the spellbooks inside—as if retrieving items from an ordinary bag.
It was a profoundly “magical” experience.
Taking out the scroll sealed with [Mana Vision], Fia unrolled it. Drawing from her experience with magic crystals, she immediately activated [Hypercomputation], visualizing the spell’s usage in her mind before casting [Mana Vision].

A dreamlike spectacle unfolded before her eyes.
The once transparent air was now awash with vibrant hues, as though someone had splashed paint across it. Countless colors intermingled yet remained distinct, drifting like luminous ribbons.
Anastasia’s earlier lessons had explained that different elemental magics emitted different colors—fire spells tended toward orange-red, water and wind spells toward blue and cyan. The colors were essentially the elements’ own hues.
When Fia reached out and grasped the colored air, the elements neither resisted nor escaped. Even when she brought opposing elements together, they showed no reaction.
It was more breathtaking than any cosmic wonder.
Not visually stunning, but brimming with hope.

If such elements existed in her world—if she could see them there—perhaps entropy’s relentless march could be reversed, and the despair of annihilation overturned. Magic offered a new energy source, a way to create something from nothing—
Hm?
A sudden, fleeting thought made Fia’s eyes widen.
What was that just now?
No… she must have imagined it.
After a brief, fruitless reflection, Fia quickly dismissed the passing thought. Maintaining Mana Vision, she turned her gaze to Claire.
