Chapter 27.2

“Sit down quickly.”

I pointed to a wooden table carved in the shape of a morning glory vine. Elizabeth glanced at it with a displeased expression, then glanced at me and sat down.

Ian, who was standing there like he was invisible, quickly put down some green tea and macaroons and left.

“You didn’t ask Ian to add poison to this, did you?”

She showed me the displeased gaze I had just seen once again.

“If you’re going to say that, why don’t you just go away right now?”

“You say that poisonous herbs like poppies are pretty, and you grow a lot of them. How do I know if you have extracted anything from it?”

Elizabeth poked a pink macaroon with the tip of her fork.

“Then don’t eat it.”

Looking at me like that, Elizabeth said, “Hm,” and soon corrected the way she was holding the fork as if she had made up her mind.

“So. Now that we came this far, what is it that you want to say?”

I took one sip of the green tea.

“Did you really almost die?”

“You don’t like that I’m alive and well?”

“Hm, a little bit? How are you alive?”

She grinned and answered provokingly.

“Father quickly went to the High Priest. That’s why I lived.”

‘I never once thought of you as my father’s child. You’re an embarrassment.’

I remembered what a young Elizabeth said to an equally young Celina.

‘I was born, so what do you want me to do?’

That was Celina’s response.

“… He went to His Eminence? Directly?”

Elizabeth narrowed her eyes. Stubbornly examining my face like that, she seemed to be judging whether the words I had just said were true.

“That’s right.”

“Hmm. Even if it’s Father, Nezer isn’t a great man that you can meet right away.”

She scratched the smooth plate once with a fork. An unpleasant screech was heard.

“There must have been a deal of some kind.”

“I suppose so. He’s not such a vaguely benevolent person.”

I thought of the High Priest, whom you couldn’t comprehend just like Elijah. So those two met. What did they talk about?

They’re not the kind of people who will just answer when someone asks something.

“I haven’t talked to the High Priest since my coming-of-age ceremony, but every time I see him, something feels off. It would be better if he were rude and annoying like the Grand Duke.”

“I don’t want to agree with you, but I think so too.”

“Ahem. Sister. Then, about that.”

Elizabeth pointed at the cat sitting at my feet with the fork.

“Is that for protection?”

“For surveillance.”

“Even so, can you say that word openly like that? Isn’t that child listening to everything?”

“I don’t know if she can convey everything we’ve said. Well, honestly, it doesn’t matter that much. Just say what you want to say.”

“Ahem.”

Elizabeth paused for a moment. Then, she opened her mouth hesitantly.

“When did you become so close to Mikael? He just keeps worrying about you.”

“Are you… Did you tell me to bring you all the way here just to investigate that?”

I opened my mouth without realizing it, speechless. Elizabeth put another macaroon on the plate and began to cut it with an insincere movement.

“It didn’t seem like I was investigating much. And you chose this place yourself, Sister.”

“Ah, that’s right. I did. I brought you here. Why did I do that? I regret it.”

“Are you making fun of me now? Listen to me seriously.”

There was a hint of disillusionment on her beautiful face.

“Mikael and I have been sending letters to each other.”

“Tell me something that makes sense. No one cares about that kind of thing. Technically, I was the one who saw him first. We went to school together. What is this about a letter?”

Even though there was no one there, she looked around, lowered her voice, and complained.

“You know, that person. I feel like there’s something invisible, like a wall, around him.”

“You. Do you like Mikael?”

Mikael and Elizabeth were one school year apart. Elizabeth was his senior. In any case, the two were wizards, so they saw each other a lot as they came and went.

“That’s not it. Honestly, it wouldn’t hurt me in the future to be close to someone like him.”

Elizabeth answered cautiously. “Hmm,” I said as I propped my chin up. The reason why the main character was so affectionate towards Celina was, to some extent, due to the setting.

Mikael was a really difficult person to get close to. You may seem close on the outside, but he didn’t show his true feelings.

Therefore, no matter how good the target characters were, with high status and not missing anything, and how they rushed at him, in the end, it was Mikael who chose them.

“If you try, you can become friends. But it’s better if you are satisfied with being just a friend.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t think he would like either you or me that way.”

“Why?”

Because he liked men after all. I shrugged my shoulders indifferently, not letting the truth out of my mouth.
