Chapter 107: Same Style
“I’m saying, this is my Workshop. Could you not come in without permission?” Zheng Yichen looked annoyed at the woman standing nearby as a spectator. The latter acted as if she hadn’t heard Zheng Yichen’s words, simply summoning a projection of a Magic Weapon Summoning Book and placing it in front of him.
“…” Looking at the thing, Zheng Yichen’s eye twitched slightly. Was a Witch interested in the Magic Weapon Summoning Book too? Even though Zheng Yichen could now create High-Level Magic Soldiers, that stuff probably still meant nothing in the eyes of a Witch, right?
“I just want to know, when can some Magic Arms suitable for Witches be added here?”
“Suitable for Witches… Hah.” Zheng Yichen forced a strange smile. “What a joke. Every Witch’s abilities are so odd. How could I possibly have the ability to… damn!”
Seeing the smile on Dan Marina’s face, Zheng Yichen’s expression darkened completely. “I finally understand why Qin said so many people dislike you.”
“I’m just a little too curious, that’s all.” Dan Marina smiled lightly.
“Even if you’re overly curious, after all this time, shouldn’t you be satisfied by now?” Zheng Yichen retorted. Because of this woman, he hadn’t made any real progress in strengthening his power during this period.
“Don’t you know that the more you hide something, the more people want to find out about it?”
Zheng Yichen gave a hollow smile. Although he was still a bit green compared to the old monsters, he was much better off now than when he first crossed into the Otherworld. He couldn’t guarantee everything, but at least his identity wouldn’t be exposed outright. Seeing that Dan Marina was dead set on not leaving his Workshop voluntarily, Zheng Yichen gave up on trying to drive her away.
He pulled out the schedule that had piled up for a week. Having wasted so much time already, he needed to start catching up. Materials weren’t lacking for now, since he was collaborating with Qin. The network of an undisclosed Witch was incredibly vast. Although Zheng Yichen’s demand for materials was high, he was still just one person, and it couldn’t compare to the resources needed by entire factions.
One person consuming resources could never outmatch a whole group consuming resources.
Research knew no race. Even goblins… when it came to important research, their resource consumption wasn’t much less than that of Giant Dragons. However, with his knowledge from Earth, Zheng Yichen stood on the shoulders of Giants. Though his research used a lot of resources, it avoided most wasteful steps and achieved a higher level of resource utilization!
Ignoring Dan Marina beside him, Zheng Yichen spread a blank sheet of paper on the workbench, picked up a pen, pondered for a moment, and began drawing a new schematic. Back on Earth, because the internet had exploded in development, so many things could be looked up online.
Plus, before crossing over, Zheng Yichen had been quite idle on Earth… he would often browse random things online in his spare time. Over time, he accumulated a considerable amount of ‘miscellaneous’ knowledge. Before, when his power was insufficient, he mostly forgot most of what he had seen. Now that his power had grown, his memory surged, and all the knowledge he had seen but hidden deep in his memory could be retrieved…
Among it were many Firearm schematics. They might not be perfectly accurate, but as long as parts were correct, that was enough. With this knowledge combined with the Otherworld’s Engineering, Zheng Yichen could sufficiently complete new improvements… Of course, if it didn’t have to lean into Otherworld style, Zheng Yichen definitely wouldn’t make it look Otherworldly!
“Huh~ Is this a Firearm?” Dan Marina, who had been spectating alongside Petty, spoke up only after Zheng Yichen finished drawing the schematic. “Strange shape.”
The Otherworld also had Firearms. After all, Engineering even had things like Mechanical Dragons, so guns were inevitable. However, their structure still inherited the Otherworld style, vastly different from Earth’s.
“Strange? This is aesthetics!” Zheng Yichen curled his lip. He had looked into Otherworld Firearms. Forget the internal structure—some were complex, some simple—the appearance was very generic, looking like a thick metal pipe. Moreover, Firearms weren’t mainstream weapons in this world. The combat level here was too high; cold weapons and Magic could unleash the power of Hand Grenades and artillery shells, so Firearms were naturally suppressed.
What? Bows!? Skilled experts could shoot arrows with missile-like effects. What use were Firearms!? Firearms were only suitable for low-level combat in the Otherworld.
Snapping his fingers to the side, an Alchemical Puppet responsible for assisting in the Workshop brought over the materials Zheng Yichen needed. For these roughly processed materials, Zheng Yichen skillfully began the subsequent refining. Even though it was his first time making it, it was still quite easy for him. After all, he had tried this manufacturing process many times in his Dream… This was something Zheng Yichen had once wondered about.
Since there was Magic that allowed entering Dreams, why not try things in Dreams that could be tried in reality? However, after checking some related materials, he understood. The main reason was Mental Energy!
When relying on Magic to have a ‘lucid Dream,’ due to Mana interference, doing many things in the Dream would bring extra Mental Energy consumption. The more precise the task, the greater the consumption. After all, having a lucid Dream through external force wasn’t easy. As for true lucid Dreams, the chance of occurring in this world might be even lower than on Earth!
Zheng Yichen guessed it was probably because this world had Mana, a special energy. Using Magic caused Mana interference; not using it, the interference still existed but was very slight. Yet this slight influence turned the already low possibility into nearly zero.
But as usual, so-called Mana interference didn’t affect Zheng Yichen… Of course, even so, the consumption of Mental Energy was still huge. That was why Zheng Yichen felt exhausted after waking up from learning Common Script in a Dream. Without interference, the consumption was this high, let alone for those with interference. Probably doing a precise small experiment could drain one’s Mental Energy dry!
“Brilliant~” Watching Zheng Yichen produce a Firearm in such a short time, Dan Marina couldn’t help but praise. Zheng Yichen’s manufacturing process was extremely precise, without a single mistake, as if he had attempted it thousands of times—efficient and orderly. What interested her even more was the appearance of this ‘Firearm.’ Even though it was a weapon, with no relation to architecture or furniture, she could still tell that the style of this ‘Firearm’ belonged to the same style as the room she currently lived in!
Just a different branch.
