Chapter 142: Reactions from Different Sides
“…” The top leaders in the Sanctuary Church stared in silence as Zheng Yichen sped away into the distance. Their carefully prepared Witch Hunt had… really been messed up by a Little Dragon?!
Even though the Sorceress had left the Black Mist zone, ninety-nine percent of the Black Mist remained behind. The Cursed Witch was just a shell now, but they couldn’t catch up to do anything to her… The feeling was like playing a game where they saw an enemy scurry off with only one hit point left.
They just needed one tiny touch… no, even a minion’s weak blow would finish the foe, but they could never close that gap. The frustration was almost unbearable; it drove them mad!
They had fallen just short!
They couldn’t even go all out to chase after her. This leftover Black Mist was the power of the Sorceress out of control. If they didn’t handle it, this place would quickly become a high-radiation Forbidden Zone for all living things. Without the Sorceress, the Black Mist wouldn’t gather by itself but would keep spreading.
The Black Mist’s strength might drop as it spread out, but it was still the Sorceress’s power. Even diluted and weakened enough for Professionals to handle, it was deadly to ordinary people. If things got to that point, fixing it would be much harder.
“Damn it, I’m awesome!!” With his best Propulsion Device pushing him, Zheng Yichen shot forward at max speed. As his top tool, this Propulsion Device worked over fifty percent better than the one he’d used before. He felt like he was losing control; everything around him blurred, and even his Dragon Clan’s strong Dynamic Vision couldn’t keep up.
“Come on, Loli… snap out of it.” Zheng Yichen glanced down at the grown-up Loris, biting fiercely at his claw, and muttered nervously. When he shifted his grip slightly, she twisted her head and bit another unharmed spot on his claw.
“I…” Seeing this strange new side of Loris, Zheng Yichen knew he had to deal with it for now. After leaving the Black Mist zone, he sensed how weak she was. Even with her strong teeth, she couldn’t break free from his grasp as he slowly drew back the Alien Energy… because he saw her pain under that energy.
Word of the failed Witch Hunt spread everywhere fast, all thanks to a troublemaking Little Dragon. For the average Human, life went on as usual—no big effects came from the failure.
A certain Red Dragon who refused to give his name claimed that the Little Dragon was a freak. Its messy coloring made it impossible to tell whose rebellious young it was; maybe some old Dragon Clan member used tricks to fake being a Juvenile Dragon just to target him!
The subject of the gossip, Zheng Yichen, kept an eye on the news. He sighed with relief to see that the Red Dragon was clueless—his true identity as the Cursed Dragon hadn’t been revealed. During the fight, he relied on throwing Magic Arms to avoid blowing his cover.
He only jumped in himself when he felt safe enough.
Although the failed Witch Hunt caused a big fuss, the Sanctuary Church had deep resources. The loss didn’t hurt them much, even with other groups secretly making them look bad… Even those smear attempts weren’t too strong, just annoying the Sanctuary Church a bit.
Only the Sanctuary Church knew the Secret Method for dealing with Sorceresses. Other forces racked their brains but couldn’t steal a clue, so if they pushed too far and another Witch Hunt came later, the Sanctuary Church might refuse to help. Then how could they fight?
There were too many records of Witch Rampage danger. Even if only one major Berserk event ever happened, it was a serious lesson—that sunken land was no small island but a whole Continent.
As for the Sanctuary Church, they smoothed all this over fast. The Sorceress wasn’t gone, but the threat of her Berserk was contained. Yeah, they said it was a success anyway… Of course, their top bosses were still furious.
The person was gone, her trail lost. Even knowing she was in a very weak state, finding her was hopeless.
Later, the Sanctuary Church demanded answers from the Dragon Clan. The Dragon Clan caused this mess—shouldn’t they explain something?
The Dragon Clan replied that the Sorceress being taken away was fine. Once she recovered from her weakness, the Berserk risk would fade as long as no big harm came to everyone. About the rest? The troublemaker was their member, but the Sanctuary Church had to name him specifically.
The Dragon Clan’s protective streak came out then. If the Witch Rampage had caused a disaster, the Little Dragon would face harsh punishment. But since nothing major happened… The Dragon Clan essentially said Humans were weak—their huge plan ruined by one of their youngsters. They claimed they’d discipline their problem child, and if Humans wanted to teach a lesson, it couldn’t be too heavy!
“Hmm… My identity stayed hidden… Okay, maybe that’s still possible. Saving her was perfect. But now, no peace with the Sanctuary Church, and lots of other groups hate me…” Zheng Yichen controlled his Alchemical Puppet and mumbled at a page in front of him—his battle summary.
Overall, the mission was a win. The costs were heavy, though. All his savings were wiped out, and most of the huge Mana build-up in his Magic Weapon Summoning Book got used up. Zheng Yichen didn’t care about that.
The Magic Weapon Summoning Book shined bright again in the Witch Hunt, thanks to him. That might draw a fresh wave of users. After this, he should expand the Magic Weapon Contract reach. As for upsetting those other forces, Zheng Yichen figured he’d angered the worst one already; the rest were nothing. The real headache was the Dragon Clan’s attention now… That’s what he dreaded most!
