Chapter 156: Who Came First?

Chapter 156: Who Came First?

“Hmm, I haven’t brought enough things.” Zheng Yichen looked at the stuff in his pocket while flying and scratched his head, feeling troubled. The use from last time hadn’t been topped up yet, so he felt uneasy about traveling far again.

“Hehe~ seems like I came first.” Wearing a cloak with purple patterns, Dan Marina looked at the forbidden area ahead. Ordinary people couldn’t see it, but she could spot some faint black wisps floating in the air that were hard to see directly. Those wisps were part of the changed Witch Power. Even though the Sanctuary Church had cleaned up nearly all of it, almost all was gone.

The leftover bits were extra stubborn because they were really light and weak, making them super hard to find. They could only wait for them to fade away by themselves. Until that happened fully, this place stayed closed off.

Even though this power was still Sorceress power, it was really like bad stuff for Sorceresses. If a Sorceress got this changed power on her, she might get messed up too. The main problem was… the chance of Berserk got higher. If she touched a lot of it, even a Sorceress who could control her own power might go Berserk. That was one reason why other Sorceresses didn’t want to step in when one went Berserk.

Transformed White Moonlight had a big power to hold down Sorceresses. Also, the stuff that leaked out after Witch Power went Berserk could make other Sorceresses likely to go Berserk too. Even if Berserk didn’t happen, it might make minds change a lot, like what Loris faced before. In short, almost no Sorceress wanted to touch this power, not even Dan Marina. Her power couldn’t go Berserk, but if it did, the trouble wouldn’t be like Loris’s, which just wiped away everything it touched.

When each Sorceress’s power went Berserk, it showed in different ways. Loris made things rot and crumble; if she didn’t hold it back, it would hurt a ton, but it was still about wrecking things. But hers was on a whole other level. So, no one was ready to pay a big unknown cost to kill her… that cost wasn’t just for themselves; it might hit everyone likely too.

She waved her hand and brushed off a few black wisps that came close to her because of her Sorceress traits. Before these wisps were taken care of, Dan Marina didn’t want to come here; it was too much of a headache. But now it was fine; these black wisps were too weak. Normal folks who came here would get hit by them, while a Sorceress could just ignore them.

Fire was indeed a very strong destroyer. If a house caught fire, ordinary people going in would be asking to die. But for a candle’s little flame, unless you were dumb enough to put your hand over it to burn, you could puff it away with one breath. Or, if you moved fast, you could pinch it out with your finger without getting hurt.

These wisps were now like fire even weaker than a candle flame. If Dan Marina didn’t make herself take them in, these black wisps couldn’t bug her at all. A regular person coming here… would end up dead. If by luck one didn’t die, she’d probably be a female. And a female who made it out alive here had, in game terms, a Witch Awakening chance that was next to nothing plus 0.1% to 1%…

It wasn’t multiplied; it was added.

That’s why all the folks guarding this sealed spot were males; not a single female. For females, the Sanctuary Church fretted that someone might out of nowhere have a Witch Awakening. Even if the chance was still tiny, here it was way higher than almost zero.

The Sanctuary Church killing Sorceresses was a rule, but that didn’t mean they wanted to pop up new Sorceresses to boost their own stats. If they managed it, it might be okay, but what if they slipped up and the person ran? That wouldn’t help their stats; it would pile on more work. Plus, females who could move around here were mostly from the Sanctuary Church, so they had some muscle. Even if one suddenly awakened as a Sorceress, she could still use those powers well.

“Huh? Did I come first?” Zheng Yichen peeked with his big body to check out the blocked forbidden area. Almost half a month had flown by, yet plenty of signs stuck around here. Zheng Yichen saw them plain as day when he came back, especially the marks left by the army that had once circled the place.

The forbidden area was locked down tight. Not every inch had guards on patrol, but heavy-duty blockades and anti-spy Magic were set up all over. To put it bluntly, not even a bug could sneak in. He pulled out a pair of life-detecting goggles and tried to scan the area around him. Mm… yep, there were a bunch of hidden watchers nearby too.

Under the goggles’ view, those watchers popped out. Zheng Yichen had no plan to bother with these watchers. His aim was to find Loris. Earlier, he’d tested it; the goggles could spot Loris’s trail, as long as she didn’t hide herself.

But after searching for ages, he mostly saw big, burly men. Not a single small one!

Loris didn’t show up; instead, he spotted folks he really didn’t want to see—the Sanctuary Church’s extra team. In it were an Archbishop he’d seen once before and that young woman with milk-white hair again. This time, he gave a quiet look at what he had in his pocket—the Propulsion Device… ah, he’d wasted almost half a month. He hadn’t made it stronger after it did so much good last time. If he’d taken time to fix it up, he’d probably feel more ready.

The Magic Weapon Summoning Book hadn’t seen any updates in this time either. Zheng Yichen used to update things like a champ. Even if no new Magic Arms were added, Magic Armor pieces were always being added bit by bit. Like, not a full set each time, but today a belt, tomorrow a helmet, so it wasn’t nothing. So… maybe he should pull some sneaky moves?

Thinking that, he quietly patted a big ball in his pocket with a skull drawn on it. He’d made this thing in his free days lately, using spare junk he had. Its hurt-power could be called ???. But straight-up killing someone… that was a no. For him, who was poor as dirt now, that was just not doable.

Make cash, make cash! Once this Loli trouble was fixed, this dragon had to get rich quick. Hmm, go back to the Underground Library and look around. Find which country had loads of gold and was easy to push around. Then go snatch a princess or what?

“Feels like I forgot something?” Zheng Yichen scratched his head and took off the life-detecting goggles he had on. These things were super handy when worn; they could catch all life signs nearby, all around. But the sight turned an awful gray. After figuring out he couldn’t find Loris with them, there was no point in keeping them on anymore.
