Chapter 202: What He Made Was Also Abnormal
“What is this… it smells awful.” Pinching her nose, Lily looked at the small jar in front of her with disgust. Inside was a near-black, purple, sticky liquid. The thing occasionally bubbled with eye-piercing little bubbles, as if it were alive!
“Uh… I don’t know what it is either.” Zheng Yichen stared at the thing in the small jar with a troubled expression, scratching his head. This was something he had messed around with after gaining some basic knowledge of Potionology and a bit of Forbidden Alchemy.
Magic Potions were something that could temporarily increase the physical activity of living creatures. That kind of thing was usually used before training. Using it could enhance the effects of subsequent training. As for the Forbidden Alchemy, Zheng Yichen wanted to create a special Alchemical Puppet with extremely strong camouflage properties. However, limited by materials, Zheng Yichen intended to make some temporary ones. Forbidden Alchemy often directly involved living creatures.
Zheng Yichen was currently using this approach, but the main material he used was a rather common one. The main ingredient was also simple: some Demonized rabbits with a little Mana… uh, weaker than the Harefolk he had encountered before. Though they had Mana, they couldn’t be called Magical Beasts; they were considered semi-Magical Beasts. Some ordinary wild animals could easily beat them up.
However, as creatures with Mana, they certainly had special traits: their hearing and eyesight were better than ordinary rabbits, and so was their jumping ability. Of course, their meat also became tastier due to the influence of Mana. They were one of the meats served on the tables of those families. Even as semi-Magical Beasts, they were considered special. Meat affected by Mana was no longer ordinary meat. Eating it wouldn’t allow someone like Lily to ignore indigestion limitations.
But it was still beneficial to the body, the kind ordinary people could eat too. It was just that eating too much could cause internal heat… probably.
The material Zheng Yichen chose was their eyes. Rabbits had strange eyesight; they had difficulty seeing things up close, but were very good at seeing far away. They could even see things Humans couldn’t see. They were a good choice for long-distance monitoring!
However, because Zheng Yichen wanted to try combining Potionology with Forbidden Alchemy, he naturally mixed in some other wild ideas, like some mad scientist tropes from novels or movies he had seen on Earth. He gave those semi-Magical Beast rabbit eyes unconventional treatment to see if he could create something like semi-living biological eyes or something.
That Magic Potion that enhanced individual activity was specially concentrated by Zheng Yichen. It was the adhesive meant to connect these eyes to the alchemical framework.
The result… the alchemical framework he made was completely melted away. Maybe the materials used were too poor, or the concentration of the Magic Potion was too high. It ended up as this pool of sticky goo. It seemed like a failure, but within this churning sticky liquid, those occasionally appearing bubbles still revealed one or two bright red Eyeballs surfacing and then sinking back down. Around those Eyeballs were some dark purple veins. They pulsed slightly and circulated with the sticky liquid, maintaining the activity of the Eyeballs. The part he had preserved seemed to be nerves, so how did it become like this… It didn’t look like a failure.
But if it were a success… the lens Zheng Yichen had placed nearby to collect signals showed no reaction at all. The connection had long been broken. This should be a failure, right?
“What exactly is this thing?” Zheng Yichen poked the sticky liquid inside with a wooden stick. The stick was immediately “bitten off” a section, and then a pile of waste residue was spat out. It was just like when the previous alchemical framework was engulfed, and some blackened, useless residue was spat out.
Zheng Yichen calculated. The amount of residue was not much different from the destroyed alchemical framework, the proportion close to ninety-five percent. The wooden waste spat out now was the same. Thinking about it, Zheng Yichen threw in a small piece of Magical Beast Meat, making Lily, who was standing to the side, purse her lips slightly, continuing to stare at the small jar with Zheng Yichen.
This piece of Magical Beast Meat quickly dissolved into the sticky liquid in the small jar. The thing, which originally just bubbled and occasionally popped out one or two red Eyeballs for mental pollution, now started churning violently. Seeing this, Zheng Yichen hurriedly cast an Enhancement Magic on the jar. Speaking of the jar… Zheng Yichen felt it was a bit ridiculous. Damn it, clay jars had much higher resistance to Mana Erosion than ordinary metals or other materials.
Gurgle gurgle—
Listening to the sound like boiling water, Zheng Yichen thought for a moment, then directly cast a barrier-type Magic, placing the jar on the ground and completely enclosing it. He watched its subsequent changes. This time, no residue was spat out, and the changes grew more and more intense. In the end, the jar, which had been enhanced by Magic, couldn’t hold on and shattered into pieces. Along with it, the sticky liquid inside scattered… oh wait, probably because it digested the Magical Beast Meat, the stuff became even stickier, and even some solid traces could be seen.
“So what on earth did I create this time?” Muttering, Zheng Yichen still recorded the results and process of this attempt. These were all experience.
The exploded sticky liquid splashed onto the invisible barrier, leaving streaks behind. Under the force of gravity, they fell toward the ground. On each piece of sticky liquid, a rabbit Eyeball that had merged into it could be seen. These Eyeballs moved restlessly. The few veins that had only appeared on them before had now grown several times larger. It was visible that each independent piece of sticky liquid clearly displayed some thicker, distinct veins.
Flipping through his previous experiment records, Zheng Yichen tried to find some data that caused this situation. Uh, it seemed normal. The alchemical framework was something he built combining some Earth knowledge. After calculation, there were no mistakes. As for the Magic Potion, to increase the concentration, Zheng Yichen did add some extra additives, but that shouldn’t have affected the results either…
With a snap, he closed the notebook specifically for recording experiments. Since he couldn’t figure it out, Zheng Yichen didn’t dwell on it. The records were here and wouldn’t run away. He could try again when he had time later: “In fact… I even kind of enjoyed this process.”
He muttered to himself. Apart from achieving those formulaic results, wasn’t creation or experimentation all about these puzzling yet astonishing accidents? The former probably brought the feeling of accomplishment after completing something normal, while the latter could bring a novel thrill.
After understanding this, Zheng Yichen carefully observed those mutated Eyeballs that were now restrained. After separating, they could regroup again, no longer just a stagnant pool. After regrouping, they could also split. However, when splitting, each part definitely contained one Eyeball. In short, the previous thing was just disgusting. Now, this thing looked utterly creepy.
“Let’s do a follow-up test first… Hey! What’s with that look!” Noticing Lily’s gaze, which had once again turned into one looking at an evil creature, Zheng Yichen waved his caught hand unhappily. “I’m fighting hard for science!”
