Chapter 447: Perfection
Deya understood that the dragon before her was one with unique pursuits, straying from the normal tastes of the Dragon Clan.
This world had people with unusual lineage, but those were mostly descendants from unions between alien races and humans.
Though some alien races lacked a human-like appearance, they were still humanoid, with sizes close to humans or mostly similar; there were no big differences or monsters.
But Zheng Yichen’s quest felt unrealistic.
Even as a Little Dragon, with wings spread, he could reach ten meters wide.
“Um, keep trying slowly,” she said.
“I’m wondering, if one day I succeed, could this world become more exciting?” Zheng Yichen mused, resting his chin on his hand.
Deya thought about what the world would be like if he actually achieved that. Exciting? Definitely—already, alien races added spice. More non-humans turning into people would be thrilling…
Many magical beasts had wisdom no weaker than humans. Strictly speaking, the Dragon Clan was a type of magical beast too, but they showed higher intelligence and could speak.
That was why Deya saw Zheng Yichen’s goal as complex… Still, she had little hope he’d succeed. Yet his dream was so weird. Seeing him so earnest, she even wondered—what if he did pull it off?
Back then, among non-human races, he’d probably gain huge influence overnight. After all, this world was mostly run by the human race now. Alien races had to blend in, let alone outright non-humans. Augusta could walk around Kaja only because at least ten human elites watched him every minute. If he tried anything dangerous, after blocking his first strike, swift punishment would follow.
Anyhow, an Evil Dragon suddenly attacking a big city basically never happened. Humankind wasn’t weak.
Plus, with that huge dragon body, sneak attacks were impossible… Charging head-on into a place like Kaja was just asking for trouble.
“You spilled way too much—saying all that to her?” After Deya left, Annie stepped out of her room, eyeing Zheng Yichen.
“Huh? When did you get back?”
“Not long ago. Sharing one body with her was too crammed and awful, so I came early… Answer me.”
“Oh well, dragons caught up with witches like me should have strange goals, right? And I’m young.” Zheng Yichen pinched his thumb and forefinger slightly apart. “No crazy ideas for me—so why not aim for something else?”
“So you told her about transformation magic? Will she believe it?”
“Believing or not is up to them. I just gave a hint to chew on,” Zheng Yichen shrugged. “To stop the Sanctuary Church folks thinking I’m too mysterious—making them nervous.”
Annie stared blankly, itching to say, “You reckon you deserve that?”
Then she thought of Zheng Yichen’s resources—actually, yeah. If his Creator identity leaked out, the world would totally blow up.
“…Wait, you want to use Sanctuary Church’s resources?”
“Whoa—obvious?” Zheng Yichen blinked, puzzled. She figured it out? This from the ‘elder’ Dan Marina teased?
Annie shook her head fast. “Not at all. If we hadn’t researched together lately, I’d have missed it… Look, I value my work highly, but your ideas intrigue me too. You have a loose theory on transformation magic, but no full framework yet. It must link deeply to Life Domain magic—if it works.”
“It’s not just Life Domain—there are new parts too!” Zheng Yichen felt a flicker of pride. “If my framework’s right, transformation magic would include Spatial Manipulation tricks.”
Magic here was super handy—it could do almost anything, even tear space if strong enough, but not by raw power. Earth’s rules didn’t apply cleanly here—they needed twisting. For big-to-small shifts, compression alone failed. The lost size couldn’t vanish—or it’d be gone forever. So Zheng Yichen’s framework had to add spatial tricks—not for outside, but inside himself!
For non-living things, shrinking or growing was simple: magic filled in, making the inner bits stretch temporarily, held by magic. Remove the magic, and it snapped back like rubber. That’s why size-changing magic only worked on lifeless stuff—living bodies had messy ‘structures’, unlike one-part objects.
“Your ambition is plain simple,” Irene’s voice cut in coldly behind. Zheng Yichen jolted, turning. When had she returned!?
“Simple where? I’m starting something this world’s never seen!”
“Not new—other ways exist… just less neat. And even with Spatial Manipulation, your theory only goes big-to-small. It’s not a full magic system.”
Zheng Yichen pouted. Fixing himself was enough; why build a whole thing? He knew records—alien races had Elves, but no Druids. “Starting’s the hardest—what’s wrong with me first? Let others tackle the rest… uh, what?”
Seeing Irene’s oddly stern face, he asked.
“With magic, laziness isn’t an option.”
(…) Her rare seriousness made Zheng Yichen cave. “Alright, fine. With my magic skill, making the framework this far is my limit. I can’t do more. For big-to-small shifts, I can mix spatial theory—squashing inner space during change… It’s logical. But making me grow from small? How?”
Irene gave him a pitying look, then sighed. Just as Annie said—desire sparks effort where needed. Zheng Yichen’s goal stopped there. All his theories served only himself—no thought for broad use. If it worked for him, great!
Like whatever the Undying Witch made—hyper-specific and un-replicable. Zheng Yichen adding Spatial Manipulation? A bold idea… and it might actually hold together!
Rare space attacks mostly strike in from outside—impact or slice—not out from in. Why? Living insides have special space isolation, plus the body’s own forces—mana or Life Force (hard to channel), even the Soul inside—all shield it.
Complex reasons make inner space unlike outer space. Space attacks can’t blast outward from inside—they only pierce inward. Though space hits ignore shields regardless.
Against space cuts, normal beings are like paper doodles: tear the paper, doodle breaks. But exceptions exist! If the doodle ink is super tough—stronger than paper—it halts ripping or gets skirted. Paper splits, doodle survives.
Plain bodies can’t endure that—magic shielding might. So Zheng Yichen’s theory should hold. Don’t fret over targeted tampering with changed inner space; failure would wreck everything. Heh… Zheng had tales on this.
One had a “Monster! Show yourself!” moment—fit perfectly as metaphor. Magic is mighty and flexible, but crackable. Anyway, real problems crop up much later post-success. Back to the frame now! Zheng Yichen gave solid ideas—parts already shaped. With downtime, might as well refine it further.
Even if unused soon, note it down—could help someday later.
