Chapter 7: A Useless Dragon?
“Hurry! He’s over there, he can’t have gone far!” Listening to the noise not far away, Zheng Yichen’s face darkened—though it was already quite dark as a dragon’s—and he craned his long neck to glance back at his own back. Sure enough, although those crossbow bolts couldn’t pierce his scales, after being prodded all the way, many had gotten stuck on him.
Now he really looked like a hedgehog.
He swung his flexible dragon tail, sweeping off some of the crossbow bolts, then let out a slight pant. After being chased like crazy for so long, aside from gaining a few more injuries, everything else seemed relatively stable. After all, the ballista’s movement speed was just like that. Once he got farther away, with fewer ballistas around, there shouldn’t be any problems… right?
Just as he thought that, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his leg, followed by a pulling force. It wasn’t strong, but it successfully made Zheng Yichen stumble. Looking down, he saw a crossbow bolt lodged in his leg.
Weren’t they supposed to be unable to break through his defense? Why did this one?
Before he could even gather his thoughts, several more crossbow bolts flew over and pinned Zheng Yichen’s limbs and wings in place, completely sealing off his movement. He tried to pull at them, but the barbed crossbow bolts weren’t easy to remove, and the ropes attached to the bolts kept tugging outward.
As he struggled against the restraints, a powerful impact suddenly struck the back of his head. Reeling from the pain, Zheng Yichen glimpsed the attacker behind him, immediately turned his head, and bit down, fiercely clamping onto the spiked club that had smashed into his skull.
The attacker was a burly man. Though he was strong, he was still far weaker compared to Zheng Yichen. After just two struggles against Zheng Yichen, the man was flung aside, slamming into the rock wall. A large splash of blood spread across the wall like an open flower.
Shaking off the now-deformed spiked club from his mouth, a wave of dizziness swept through his mind. “Damn it, what’s going on again?”
He shook his head, but the ropes, which he could still tug at before, now felt heavy. He could even feel himself being dragged along, and his vision in front gradually blurred.
“He still hasn’t lost consciousness? As expected of the Dragon Clan,” the President said, looking at Zheng Yichen, whose head drooped to the ground, eyes still wide open—clearly not unconscious yet—with some amazement. Those armor-piercing crossbow bolts had been coated with a heavy dosage of drugs.
Truth be told, a Young Dragon should have passed out directly under such circumstances, no matter what.
“…” Staring intently at the approaching President, the moment he got close, Zheng Yichen didn’t hesitate and snapped his jaws at him, but the President dodged a step ahead.
“Not only unconscious, but still with strength to spare. With such an excellent physique, why were you abandoned?” the President mused somewhat strangely, looking at Zheng Yichen who had almost no power left to resist.
Although Zheng Yichen couldn’t understand what this guy was saying, it didn’t lessen his terrible mood right now. After all, that guy was swaggering over to him like a victor, chattering away. What a pity that bite hadn’t caught him directly!
Blurrily watching the growing number of people with torches gathering around, Zheng Yichen knew very well that he was completely done for. Damn it, not only did I transmigrate into a lousy dragon, but I’ve also been hunted by Humans. Although these people didn’t seem to have immediate plans to kill him, under such circumstances, he didn’t think being captured alive would end up any better than dying outright.
“Why was I abandoned? I’d like to know that too.”
“Who?!!” The President and Vice President turned in surprise towards the source of the voice. The two of them were practically the strongest present. The reason they hadn’t taken action was partly to maintain authority and partly to prevent any unexpected troublemakers.
As for the people who came here for the hunt, they were all from those families and their trusted aides, so there was no need to doubt their loyalty… Of course, even if they doubted, it didn’t matter. These people already knew too much!
“Is this all the reaction you have?” The soft, gentle voice continued, coming from a clear direction. However, none of the people who heard the voice could find the speaker, even though the torches illuminated the surroundings brightly.
Couldn’t find her… No, are these people blind? Feeling on the verge of completely losing consciousness, Zheng Yichen thought, watching their reactions, That person is right behind you two, hey.
Although the person was less than half the height of the President, wearing a delicate and cute dark red dress and a silk hat that matched her outfit’s color, and though her attire was stylish, a closer look revealed that under such clothing, she was covered up completely. Apart from her neck and face, not an inch of skin was exposed.
Even in his near-unconscious state, upon seeing her, Zheng Yichen still felt as if facing an inexplicably immense terror. The air seemed to turn thick and viscous.
Yet the others were still acting deaf and blind, searching around everywhere. She’s right among your crowd! Even if she’s short, you could see her if you just lowered your heads a bit. Are you all hired actors or something?!
“Oh? You can actually see me?” Noticing Zheng Yichen’s gaze, the Loli looked at him with interest. She walked past the President and Vice President of the branch guild, came to his front, looked down at him for a moment, then pulled off the long glove on her right hand and gently stroked Zheng Yichen’s head.
That arm had the slender softness unique to a loli. Staring at it, that delicate white arm seemed stained with mottled bloodstains, the same color as her eyes. But when he tried to see more clearly, what he saw earlier seemed like an illusion.
It seemed like just escaping the wolf’s den only to fall into the tiger’s mouth. Unable to hold on any longer, Zheng Yichen simply lost consciousness.
“What a useless dragon,” the Loli muttered, staring at the spot on Zheng Yichen’s head she had just touched for a while. After confirming the touched spot showed no change, she stood up again and put her long gloves back on. “To be pushed into such a state by a group of mortals who haven’t even reached the Tier.”
As she slipped her gloves back on, the people around snapped out of their ‘deaf and blind’ state, staring with astonishment at the ‘Loli’ who now stood before That Dragon. None of them were fools driven by desire or lacking in experience.
Even though this Loli appeared graceful and adorable, someone who could appear here unnoticed couldn’t possibly be ordinary.
“Who are you?” the President asked gravelly, staring intently at this Loli. His immediate impression of her didn’t differ much from that of an ordinary little girl, but… what he truly wanted to do was to flee this place at all costs!!
