「 The night of your return 」

Astro watched, antsy as the door to the christmas toons space opened. Delilah came into view first, the usual frown on her face. Though, he would be lying if he said she looked better with a smile.

Dandy clapped his hands together, smile as cheerful as ever as Bobette and Coal exited first, "Oh, hello Bobette! Bet you're thankful to be outta there!"

Bobette laughed, a nervous, small chuckle as she gave a shy glance up at Delilah who loomed intimidatingly. Coal let out a small, soft huff of fear that Bobette soothed with a gentle pet, "Uh—yeah! Hey, Astro.." she awkwardly greeted the moon.

This part was always awkward. The part where they were freed from where they were practically kept hostage.

"Hello.." a small voice came from the doorway, Ginger stepping out, a small frown on her lips as she took place next to Bobette.

"Merry Christmas everyone!!" Rudie greeted more cheerful, his enthusiasm unmatched as he put his hooves on his hips, taking place on Gingers left.

"Uh—Rudie, its not Christmas yet—" Astro heard Bobette correct, however his attention immediately caught in the last figure cautiously exiting the room.

You. The face he longed to see in person for months—hell, a year.

He longed to go to you immediately, you were so close. His hands clutched the soft blue blanket as he restrained himself. Your posture relaxed subtly, and he found himself with a small smile as he watched you offer him the same reassuring look.

You both could have your moments together soon...

...Dandy kindly distracted Delilah elsewhere once the christmas toons were released, claiming that you all needed some time to relax before getting ready for a whole month of christmas cheer to offer to children everyday.

Astro brought you to his room, immediately pulling you into a hug. Your arms wrapped around his shoulders and his, snuggly snaked around your waist. His face nuzzled into the crook of your neck, breath warm and soft against your skin.

You both were quiet, holding eachother. Really holding eachother after so long.

"I missed you." You whispered, words lingering in the silence with every soft breath. Astro pulled away, a small, but thankful smile on his face.

"I missed you too." He said, gently leading you to his bed. Just as you remembered, everything was blue. The pillows, blankets. A lot of his room was as well—it was all so Astro.

"But now, lets rest. Together. And for once, finally, I wont have to infiltrate your dreams just to hold you."

「 Day 5 of your return 」

"Finally, we're done!" You cheered, looking up at the tall, and proudly decorated tree standing in the middle of the room. Rudie hugged you and spun you around before placing you down, "We did amazing! Im gonna go get Ginger and bring her so she can see! Man, I really hope she didnt give into coals puppy eyes and give her treats."

He randomly commented, "Shes already fat!" He said before darting off, amking you gap in offense on Coals behalf, "Hey- she is not fat!" You yelled after, sadly the toon was fast and already out of range making you pout.

"Well, he isnt entirely wrong.." Astro said as he came to your side, giving you a fond look before looking up at the tree. He caught the scent of pine from it, the scent strangely bringing him a sense of calm.

"You be quiet.." you mumbled, subtly shuffling closer to him. You looked up to the tree as well, smiling as you felt a hand take yours shyly.

Both of your eyes landed on the glowing star at the very top of the tree, its shape mocking Astro's right eye in design.

"The star is beautiful, as always." He said quietly.

"Youre right...but, no star is as beautiful as you." You replied, looking towards him. He met your gaze, shyly smiling at you in return before Shrimpo suddenly shrieked, ruining the moment,

"EW! YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME SICK!"

「 Day 10 of your return 」

Astro stared, eye half lidded. He was stupidly entraced, watching as you simply stirred some ingredients in a bowl for Ginger—who couldnt be trusted with any herself.

You bit your lip in concentration, hand gripping the handle of the metal whisk as you stirred, looking towards Ginger nervously as she gently corrected you on how fast you were going. He watched as you nervously giggled, a soft rosiness rising to your cheeks. How he yearned to hear such a melodious tune himself, he nearly found envy creeping into his mind.

He sighed dreamily, his yearning interrupted by a presence taking place at his side. He knew it all too well, and looked over curiously at his best pal, Dandy. Rainbow petals and all greeting him brightly.

"If you stare so lovingly, Delilah—perhaps even one of the handlers might catch on." He said, voice quieter as he gestured around at the one or two handlers helping a few toons ready up the educational center for the christmas holiday.

Astro nodded slightly in understanding, lips pressing together into a line. Dandy put a hand on the moons shoulder, his smile softening into something more sympathetic.

"Im sorry, Astro. But, at least you have nights together to be close, right?" He tried, patting as Astro's eye wandered back to you naturally.

"Yes...I suppose youre right." He agreed softly, though sad about the truth.

「 Day 15 of your return 」

"Oh Astroo, my moon..." Astro turned around at the sound of your voice, humming curiously as you wandered up to him, objects in hand. You stopped infront of him, his eye following your hands as you offered them out and showed him just what they were—two very messily made cupcakes that looked like you and him.

Noticing his brow rise you released a laugh that made him look up, expression softening as he watched you giggle at his surprise at your interesting work of the cupcakes.

"Gosh—dont look at them like that! I tried hard on these, I'll have you know!" You said, offering him the cupcake that looked like you. He hummed, humoring you as his familiar blue sparkles appeared. The glow gently took over the cupcake as his stars took the sweet feom your hand, his eye looking it over once more.

"Yes, hard work indeed. I can see where you struggled with the smile here..."

"Oh my handler, shut up and eat the cupcake." You huffed exasperatedly. He chuckled softly, both of you taking a seat on the bench under the tree.

As you both quietly ate together you watched children mosey about, some playing hopscotch where Astro once did with Dandy, a few drawing pictures on the floor woth crayons while some played with pushes of the Mains.

Your hand held one of Astros under his blanket, it concealing the way your thumb caressed the back of his hand, or the way he ran a finger over yours. You smiled behind your cupcake.

Two children suddenly ran up to you both, smiling brightly as they held papers.

"Hello Astro, hi [Y/n]!" One greeted, smiling chipper and showing where she missed a tooth.

"Oh, hello you two. Is there something we can do for you?" Astro asked, smiling at the children softly. They quickly nodded and offered out their papers to you both, Astro and you each taking your respective ones.

Astro rose a brow at the paper given by the girls friend, seeing himself and you doodled messily with some hearts around you both.  He cleared his throat, folding the paper carefully and tucking it beneath his blanket for safe keeping while you gasped, offended as you pointed to the drawing the little girl gave you,

"Hey—my baking does not suck, thats Ginger!" You reasoned, Astro chuckling as he read the words "Y/n yore cookies are gross but i still loev you" spelled out with a picture of you frowning with a burnt cookie in your hand.

「 Day 20 of your return 」

Astro looked on at you in amusement as you stood on your tippy toes, a smile rivaling dandys as you held that little green bit of mischievous foolery in between your fingers over his head.

Mistletoe.

"Wowww, I wonder where this came from?" You said, looking around. There was no one else here, or in the kitchen of the doorway you both stood at. Sprout, Cosmo and Ginger already left to give out treats.

Astro's eye was half lidded, a smile on his lip as you allowed your feet to flatten, standing at regular height infront of him. You lowered the mistletoe, giggling as Astro cupped your cheek with a hand, "If a kiss is what you wanted, you could have just asked, you know."

"Yeah," you replied, leaning in as his hand gently guided your face closer to his, "I could have. But maybe I just wanted to burden you with the woes of traditions." You teased quietly, hearing him quietly laugh in response.

"This is no burden."

Was all he said before softly planting his lips against yours, eyes shutting as he felt you lean in reciprocation, body relaxing as your eyes fluttered shut.

The kiss was sweet, slow and sensual as he tilted his head into the kiss, bringing you closer with a hand on you hip. The mistletoe was long forgotten, the kiss almost making you forget all.

If only it could make you forget all. If only it could numb out and kill the bittersweet feeling creeping in as your last days come to passing.

「 Christmas night 」

You and Astro quietly stood infront of your bedroom door. A bedroom you used during christmas, or were supposed to. You always slept with Astro, so it lacked your presence often. 

Your hand squeezed his, remembering the day. The time you could've been at his side, spent other places. You had no choice but to be else where, you were a Christmas toon after all, especially busy on the big day with kids everywhere. Delilah, watching, especially kept you from wondering off to your moon.

"Im sorry," you squeezed out of yourself, looking down at your feet. "I wish I could've made more time for you today..but she was breathing down my neck so much—"

Hearing the tightness in your tone Made Astro quick to act, gently bringing you to face him. He tilted your head up, a finger under your chin. "Dont apologize, I know how it is. It wasnt your fault." He reassured quickly, seeing your eyes grow wayer as they met his.

"Its christmas...everyone was busy with something."

You knew that to be true. Every toon was definitely busy with many kids no matter their popularity. And for a Main like him, maybe spending time on christmas together was asking for too much.

"I just...I dont want to lose you again. I feel like I only just got you back yesterday." You blinked away a few tears, frowning as the droplets slowly glided down your cheeks.

"And now...I have to go back in the damned room. For a year. I'll be without you. Again."

Astro pressed his lips together into a firm line, feeling a tightness forming in his chest as you explained your feelings. Your sadness. He couldn't blame you. He felt the same.

He slowly moved the blanket away, letting it drop to the floor. His hands went towards you, gently bringing you in by the waist and pulling you into him. Your arms wrapped around him naturally, face hiding in his shoulder.

"I know what you mean—its always the same. This is always how it goes, but it doesnt hurt any less. But, itll be okay." he continued, not needing any words to know you agreed. It was simply the truth.

"We will still have a way. We will be together. There, in your dreams, you'll find me."
