Volume 3, Chapter 20 – Harvest【2】
Hannah noticed the look in Bai Xiang’s eyes had changed.
It was no longer pure scrutiny. Now there was a faint hint of interest.
At a time like this, could she dare say she did not?
She nodded vigorously. “Yes! I… I do know some people, some classmates and professors. I can email them and lure them over, if you need them……”
“It will not come to that.”
Bai Xiang shook her head. “What I have are some infrastructure issues. I want to hire a few companies on the cheap.”
Infrastructure?
Hannah was completely stunned. She had no idea how the topic had jumped that far in an instant.
But she still nodded quickly. “Th… that is fine too. Some of my classmates work in that field. I can introduce them to you!”
Bai Xiang inclined her head. “Tell me about your research results.”
“And how to produce ‘Original-Form Suppressant’.”
She agreed!
A wild joy welled up in Hannah’s heart.
Only someone planning to spare her and employ her would care about this sort of thing. She is not going to kill me. I get to live.

The delight twisted her lizard-woman features a little, but she quickly reined herself in and began explaining the ins and outs to Bai Xiang.
“My child… is the body I am using now. I call it ‘Samsis X’.”
“The name has meaning. ‘Samsis’ is one of the ancient gods we Sami people worship. Its defining traits are a lizardlike body and a divine power that can fuse all filth. We call It the ‘World-Cleansing God’.”
“And ‘Samsis X’ really is the only test subject capable of accepting foreign genes. Part of its genes come from the giant lizards on Ponjia Volcanic Island, and another part comes from excavated ancient-demon fossils, substances extracted from their bone marrow.”
“Once the fusion succeeded, I kept monitoring its growth. When it was still an embryo, I started linking to its brainwaves to try to communicate with it… In the process, I discovered its mind was highly active from a very early stage.”
“Wait.” Bai Xiang stopped her. “You people have a way to read thoughts?”
“Not thoughts.” Hannah corrected her. “Reading minds is impossible. It is ‘thought-activity level’. We chart certain wave spikes and judge it based on fluctuations in wavelength.”
Bai Xiang nodded. “Go on.”
“Then… you have read the logs. It is basically all as written there.” Hannah sighed. “‘X’ began to show signs of gene collapse, and it is the only success out of the four thousand experiments I have run. I could not just let a result like that die!”
“So I took a risk and activated the still-unstable brain-implant procedure, prepared the ingredient lists for the ‘awakening drug’ and the ‘suppressant’, and had the computer control the machines to fabricate them automatically after my surgery.”
“Because if we waited until I woke up to produce them, it might have been too late.” she said earnestly. “I could not be sure I would still remember after I woke up……”
“So the formula for producing the suppressant is stored on the computer?”
“Unless someone deleted it, yes.”
Following her instructions, Bai Xiang immediately searched the folders and found them completely empty.

“Deleted?” Hannah’s eyes bulged. “Who has been here?”
Bai Xiang instantly thought of that USB drive.
She plugged the drive into the machine, and sure enough, found the encrypted files Hannah had mentioned inside.
Did Liang Qiusheng risk everything for this?
That did not really line up with “taking revenge on me.”
But it did not rule out the possibility that he was working for someone else and that they would send people after her once they had what they wanted.
With this in hand, controlling Hannah became much easier. Bai Xiang asked her again, “Do ancient demons really exist in this world?”
Over the past three months, she had taken some time to look up information, confirming that in the world where Great Yu was located, they had indeed dug up dinosaur fossils.
Not just dinosaurs. They had also unearthed older sauropods, fish, even gigantic insects and trilobites.
“They exist.” Hannah said solemnly. “A lot of people think they do not, but I am certain they do.”
Bai Xiang frowned. “Where is your proof?”
“The proof is that there are too few fossils!” Hannah shook her head. “Far too few… Surveys and analysis show a break around five hundred and forty million years ago. Every ancient-organism fossil discovered so far dates to before that. Not a single one has been found from after that. That is not normal.”
So it was still just a hypothesis.
Bai Xiang shook her head inwardly.

But a lot of the time, a hypothesis is enough.
She looked at Hannah’s current ugly body, thinking that with ‘Samsis X’ fused with ancient demon genes, what would happen if it were allowed to keep growing.
This really was an unexpected harvest.
“You can still turn back into a giant lizard?”
“I can.” Hannah nodded.
“The suppressant keeps me from gene collapse. On that basis, as long as I do not resist and deliberately fall asleep, X’s will wakes up and swells to the surface, although the form might end up slightly smaller than before.”
That took care of the final problem.
Bai Xiang was reasonably satisfied.
There was no way she could bring Hannah back to camp looking like this and tell everyone that aside from her little aunt’s remains she was also taking this lizard-woman away.
That was impossible.
Even if she was already displeased with Yujing’s arrangements and, despite the pressure from the two Sword Lords, she had not planned on tearing things open so soon.
But a demonic beast was different.
Was it really that strange to have a crocodile in the Jing River?
The only concern was that once she turned back into a giant lizard, it might escape. Otherwise, Bai Xiang could simply toss it into the river and let it swim off first.

Ordering Hannah to wait at the side, Bai Xiang continued going through the USB drive’s contents, her brows unconsciously knitting together.
In another encrypted file, she found the experimental data for the “biochemical people” project.
In other words, everything related to the research progress on Bai Nianchan’s remains was basically compiled here.
Hannah instinctively shuffled a little farther out.
She could feel the pressure in the air drop and had no desire to get on this powerhouse’s bad side.
We have to find that Dr. Evan and kill him……
Bai Xiang lightly bit her lower lip. Then, as if she had just remembered something, she raised her head and looked off in another direction.
There was still her master’s side to consider.
Among Master’s disciples, that one called Liang Yu seemed to have framed them, had she not?
Under normal circumstances there was no reason for her to do that, unless she was entangled with Yao Qingyuan.
Xiang Xian had indeed told Bai Xiang she was prepared to clean house when she returned to Yujing this time.
But combined with the intel she had gotten from Tao Muyun, Bai Xiang felt her master might not get what she wanted this trip.
