Volume 3, Chapter 77 – A Foreign Land
As the plane descended, Bai Xiang withdrew from her cultivation state, went to the cabin’s changing room, took off her dress and robe, and chose a new outfit to wear.
She really had to change. She had no intention of making herself look too eye-catching.
This time, Guo Rongzhi had originally wanted to come with her. He had once lived and worked in Luohou, knew many of the “rules” here, and felt that if Bai Xiang came alone, she might end up “breaking taboos.”
But there were simply too many collaboration matters the dojo had to deal with, and in the end he still could not make the trip. All he could do was write down everything he felt was important and send it to Bai Xiang, telling her to look it over carefully on the way.
Bai Xiang had indeed done so. After she finished reading, she had a basic understanding of the situation abroad.
Simply put, becoming a Divine Fetus immortal did not mean you could run wild and cause trouble as you pleased in foreign countries. If you stirred up too big a commotion, you would pay for it.
[Actually, if you were going to those federal countries, the procedures would be much more troublesome than now.] This was part of the information Guo Rongzhi had given her. [Because for someone at your and your master’s level, when you officially go abroad… you can’t even call it “going abroad” anymore. In other countries they’d probably use a word like “visit” for you. So you should understand the situation. You’d need to handle a huge amount of paperwork and certifications before you could go.]
This was easy enough to understand. In Bai Xiang’s view, she was essentially a walking “weapon of mass destruction.” Something like that strolling around on another country’s turf, what head of state would feel at ease? Of course they would have to ask again and again what you were going there to do, and discuss your itinerary before even considering cooperation.
[But you’re going to Luohou, which makes things much easier.]
[Luohou is a pretty chaotic place. Strictly speaking, this whole region around us is chaotic.]
[You can think of it as being born that way, or you can think of it as the result of certain forces deliberately shaping it. We don’t need any paperwork to go to these places. They belong to the “gray zones,” so don’t be surprised by anything that happens.]
[But even “gray zones” have their own “gray zone” rules. First of all, try not to look too high-profile.]
[People there really aren’t very bright. They’re different from the people of Yu, and that goes for every social class.]

When it came to this part, Guo Rongzhi did not explain in too much detail. He only warned Bai Xiang that if she did not want too much trouble gathering around her, it was best to dress and appear a bit more plain.
Because many of the people here truly lacked sense. They would not stop to think, “If you dare wear gold and jade in a place like this, you must have some real power behind you.” They were all straightforward types who acted on impulse, doing whatever came to mind without the least thought for consequences.
There was no way to predict what sort of madness these people might pull. Even if their existence was nothing at all in Bai Xiang’s eyes and she could sweep them away with a flick of her hand, she still did not want this kind of crude trouble constantly coming to her door.
So she had to change clothes. At the very least, she could not wear this kind of gorgeous arcane robe and palace dress.
She also had to take hot weapons into account.
This was the second key point Guo Rongzhi had mentioned. He had especially stressed to Bai Xiang that when moving through countries in the “gray zones,” she must make proper bulletproof preparations.
[I know, with your abilities as my junior sister, you’re not really afraid of ordinary bullets. But how should I put it, your senior brother doesn’t want to see you on television with your clothes shot to tatters, so you need to be prepared. And as it happens, these planes all come with matching equipment.]
Bai Xiang knew that with her current movement speed, there was basically no way a bullet could hit her.
It was not that she was faster than a bullet, but that a gunman’s aiming speed was not as fast as she was.
Even so, in this situation Guo Rongzhi still insisted she make bulletproof preparations. When she read that part of his warning, Bai Xiang immediately understood just how rampant firearms and ammunition were in the “gray zone” countries.
He had indeed said there was matching gear stored in here…
She pulled open the unlocked alloy compartment door and saw two tight combat suits stored inside, vacuum-packed.

One male, one female. Both were a deep, matte black on the outside, with blue lines running from the collar down across the whole body. Even under the cabin lights they did not reflect.
There ought to be more.
Bai Xiang pulled open the small drawer beneath and found some documentation inside.
“Custom-made by Kalder Company, G-305, codename ‘Demon Kite’?”
After carefully reading through the manual, Bai Xiang was shocked to discover that not only were there different styles of “Demon Kite” battlesuits prepared here, but also matching tactical rifles, electromagnetic launchers, magnetic boot soles, and filtration masks. There was even a “Demon King” mecha parked in the belly bay of this private jet that had been gifted to her, which could link with the “Demon Kite” suit.
Just what exactly had this Senior Brother Guo of hers been doing over here back then?
Staring at the three-view diagram and manual for the “Demon King” mecha, Bai Xiang felt the whole thing was rather absurd.
After a moment’s thought, she dialed Guo Rongzhi’s number.
It connected quickly.
“This is your Senior Brother Guo,” Guo Rongzhi’s voice came through. “If you’re calling me now, you should already have arrived, right?”
“What’s with all this equipment?” Bai Xiang questioned him.
“‘Xingshui,’ ‘Bailong,’ ‘Naldo’…” Guo Rongzhi rattled off a string of names.

“These are all people who openly violate Federal Law and fire off satellites even under sanctions. They’ve got nuclear weapons in their hands, even space-based weapons, and they’re extremely sensitive about cultivators.”
“So what you mean is, I’d better wrap myself in a layer of technology.” Bai Xiang understood at once, but then she asked, puzzled, “The federal countries are already about ready to found nations on their space stations. Can’t they shoot the satellites down?”
Guo Rongzhi answered calmly, “Not unless you can wipe them all out in a single instant. Otherwise, take a guess what would happen to their borders on the ground.”
“Would they use nuclear bombs on me?”
“If you push them past the point of tolerance, they won’t hesitate.”
“The Federations and Great Yu wouldn’t step in?”
“The Federations would only be delighted to have another case of a high-level cultivator eating a nuclear bomb to observe,” Guo Rongzhi said, very serious. “As for Great Yu… if you had taken the sugar pill, they would help you.”
The “sugar pill” here meant the Sacred Heart Pill.
Bai Xiang narrowed her eyes. “But I didn’t take it.”
Guo Rongzhi laughed. “Which is why quite a few of the people who are eager to see you eat a nuclear bomb are actually on our side.”
“What about the common people caught in the blast?”
“Don’t cling to that way of thinking.” Guo Rongzhi’s tone grew stern.

“Don’t even think about using those people to threaten them. In their eyes, those people aren’t human at all.”
“Of course, don’t get too worked up either.”
He shifted the topic. “Even Yao Qingyuan managed to bring half of Luohou under his control to support him. He only had a few people, and there wasn’t even a single Divine Fetus among those he sent out.”
“The news that you’re coming is public to those people. They’ll fear you, and they’ll respect you. As long as you don’t do anything that touches their core interests, they won’t want to make an enemy of you, so you don’t need to worry too much.”
Was he implying yet again that lives over here weren’t worth anything?
Bai Xiang quickly used Jade Spirit to record all the data and information. After a while, she asked, “Where are the people from Tiger-Subduing Temple?”
“In the western suburbs of Bako City,” Guo Rongzhi replied at once. “I’ve already sent you the map data… the ‘Demon Kite’ has an onboard computer and can connect to your phone.”
Bai Xiang frowned. “Why do I feel like it’s the outside world that’s the real modern society?”
“You have your concerns,” Guo Rongzhi murmured on the other end.
“Some people are running away from the laws of nature…”
“And in their eyes, that very escape is what makes ‘modern’ society modern.”
