Volume 6, Chapter 48 – I Have the Little One — What Do You Plan to Do?

As the green-haired youth’s familiar face came into full view, Bai Lianyue’s expression grew increasingly complicated.

Renoval-Koffiso.

Son of the Kingdom of Blueflower’s Divine-Graced Maiden.

Over four hundred years ago, when she had just awakened and was still in a dazed, uncontrolled state, she had sensed the energy field produced by a Divine-Graced Maiden’s breakthrough — and followed it straight from The Veiled Domain to the capital of the Kingdom of Blueflower, where she had run rampant. In the end, the capital was razed to nothing, and the overwhelming majority of its people, including the Divine-Graced Maiden herself, died at her hands.

This was one of the many sins Bai Lianyue had committed.

Renoval had been among the rare few who survived.

Because in her dazed state, Bai Lianyue had carelessly killed Renoval’s mother — that is, the Divine-Graced Maiden — along with nearly every member of his family, an unavoidable mountain of guilt had accumulated in the Malevolence Lady’s heart.

On top of that, Renoval’s very wish had been for her to become his master.

And so, once her sanity returned, Bai Lianyue brought Renoval back with her to The Veiled Domain and took on the role of “Master.”

Renoval thus became the first and only human being to live within the Terrabond Lineage’s territory.

Ten years passed quickly like that.

But then —

just as the time came for Renoval to decide whether to renew his contract, this, the Malevolence Lady’s very first disciple, violated Bai Lianyue’s rules. He entered the depths of Robusta Wildwood on his own, was influenced by the sealed evil god power within, and went completely berserk.

Not only did he attempt to kill Yelena and the other vassals — he even tried to launch a mass slaughter in the nearby Westivian Covenant territories.

In the end, the injured Yelena awakened Bai Lianyue from sleep, and Bai Lianyue personally struck down the maddened Renoval.

After that battle, Bai Lianyue had assumed Renoval was dead. In her dazed state afterward, she had even automatically erased her memories pertaining to him.

Which was precisely why, when Renoval appeared before her now, the Malevolence Lady’s face had shown such utter bewilderment.

But after the bewilderment came nothing but cold.

“This whole combination play……. did you come up with it? Come to think of it, that Corrupted Beast riot during Wishaven’s protest march a while back — that was your doing too, wasn’t it?”

Bai Lianyue’s voice carried clearly to Renoval through the energy fluctuations. Not a trace of hesitation, only certain accusation.

At those words, the gentle smile on Renoval’s face faltered slightly. Behind those gold-rimmed glasses, his dark green eyes flickered with genuine surprise. He reached up to push his glasses back into place, and a thread of disbelief crept into his tone:

“Tsk tsk, wow — not bad at all~ The Master who’s always been so scatterbrained, and you pieced it together that quickly? Did the sun just rise from the west??”

There was a distinct sincerity to Renoval’s words.

After all, he truly hadn’t expected Bai Lianyue to work it all out. He’d originally planned to explain the whole thing himself to his oblivious Master in person.

“Those little kids really have done a fair bit for your head, it seems.”

He mused to himself, and then without bothering to hide it at all, admitted openly:

“Yes, this whole operation — I arranged it. Ahh…… Master, do you have any idea how much effort I had to put in just to get those two evil gods to cooperate nicely with my plan?”

Renoval couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.

Just thinking back to the times Ulutiel and Polarvitan had sent him flying with their bickering — sent him flying and coughing blood — left him feeling exhausted all over again.

He’d really thrown himself into it for this plan to come together.

Of course, Bai Lianyue had absolutely no interest in entertaining Renoval’s sigh.

Her brow furrowed.

“What exactly are you trying to do?”

Bai Lianyue’s voice went suddenly frigid. The ice-blue curse power around her churned furiously. The black thorns erupted outward in an instant, coiling tight around the black-robed figures and Xi Xuan, locking them in place. Killing intent surged in those dark crimson eyes.

“Using Clavino’s civilians as bait, having Polarvitan reanimate my former comrade’s body, ordering Ulutiel to corrupt Xi Xuan’s mind — and now……. those two are probably in Wishaven by now, aren’t they……. Renoval, just what are you trying to accomplish??”

At that, the smile on Renoval’s face grew only gentler — and all the more chilling for it. He slowly raised one hand. Dark green curse power condensed in his palm, forming a thin beam of energy that swayed gently in the air.

“My goal? It’s simple, Master. Even if Master is a bit of a blockhead, we’ve come this far — surely you know what’s in my heart by now?”

As the words left him, the green-haired man’s gaze locked onto Bai Lianyue. Those dark green eyes burned with a feverish light — a pure, possessive obsession — identical to the look in his eyes when he had charged out of Robusta Wildwood all those centuries ago, and yet deeper now, more unhinged:

“All I want is for you to keep staying by my side.”

“Just like before. When you personally taught me swordplay. When you taught me the Bai Ling Determination.”

“Just the two of us. No one else getting in the way.”

“Ailiya, Yelena — or that newborn daughter of yours…….. none of them around.”

Renoval’s voice grew quieter and quieter, but the sickness and killing intent bleeding through his tone grew only thicker, making the blood run cold.

Sensing the obsession and chill radiating from Renoval’s presence, Bai Lianyue let out a heavy, complicated sigh and pressed her fingers to her temple.

“So that’s your petty little goal…… I thought that after disappearing for so many years, you might have come to your senses. And yet here you are. Still the same.”

Bai Lianyue’s voice was heavy with disappointment.

Perhaps Yelena had been right all along.

A heart tainted by evil god’s blood — it was impossible for it to return to normal.

If that was the case, there was no point in saying more.

Slowly narrowing her eyes, Bai Lianyue closed her hand into a fist. The phone in her pocket instantly shattered apart, dissolving into a flood of silver-white radiance that rapidly condensed in her palm, forming a longsword radiating piercing cold light.

Surging ice-blue curse power immediately converged along the blade, sending a terrifying aura sweeping outward in all directions.

The moment Bai Lianyue drew the White Horizon Sword, Renoval’s brow instinctively furrowed.

But just as quickly, he smiled back with easy confidence.

“Trying to break through the barrier by force? Master, are you really prepared to disregard Senior Xi Xuan’s life? And all these people of Clavino?”

“If I can’t afford to……. then I’ll just have to atone for it later.”

“Ha. Decisive as always. That’s Master for you.”

Renoval remarked approvingly.

“But for this person? I doubt you can bring yourself to abandon them.”

Before his words had even finished, Renoval’s hand shot upward. The dark green curse power in his palm warped into a twisting spatial rift. The rift shimmered with an eerie light.

In the next second, a small figure was transmitted out through the rift.

“Xing— Xing Wu!??!”

The instant Bai Lianyue laid eyes on that small, slight figure, her heart clenched violently. Panic flashed through those dark crimson eyes in an instant. She instinctively lunged forward — only to be stopped dead by the barrier wall. The assault of the black thorns slowed. Her attention was entirely consumed by that tiny figure.

And Renoval had been prepared. The moment Xing Wu was transmitted out, he reached over and seized her by the throat, fingers closing tight. The motion wasn’t rough — but it drove into Bai Lianyue’s heart like a blade.

“Don’t move, Master.”

Renoval said with a smile, his voice soft and gentle as if coaxing a small child — yet the hand gripping Xing Wu’s throat didn’t ease in the slightest.

“This is the child you’ve spent a thousand years fixating over, isn’t it? Isn’t it? If you dare make a move — or try anything to break the barrier — I can’t guarantee this little neck of hers can withstand my grip.”
