Volume 6, Chapter 55 – Polana’s Complicated Thoughts
At this moment —
Bathed in moonlight, Bai Lianyue’s figure hovered between the clouds. Her long hair, shifting between jade green and silver-white, whipped and cracked in the roaring wind. Her dark-red eyes carried a chill that made the heart seize. The Terran Malevolence’s aura radiating from her body spread outward like a tide — and when it collided with Polarvitan’s Abyssal Lord aura rising from below, it sent a towering wall of energy surging in every direction.
Boom —!
Two evil-god-level auras crashed together violently, birthing a visible shockwave of raw energy that swept outward in all directions. The ruins below trembled in the blast. What remained of the buildings cracked and split, rubble cascading down like a sudden hailstorm. Civilians still in the middle of evacuating were swept off their feet, crashing to the ground in terror. Even the members of the Terrabond Lineage and the Vassals of Sky were driven flat by the overwhelming pressure, without so much as the courage to lift their heads.
Polarvitan looked up at Bai Lianyue suspended in the sky above, a flash of amusement and wariness passing through her pink-haired, violet-eyed gaze. The corner of her mouth curved into a cocky, petulant arc.
“Hmph. I knew that useless human couldn’t be counted on. Said he’d buy a few hours? Hilarious.”
Arms on her hips, Polarvitan thrust her chin out defiantly and squared off against Bai Lianyue without an ounce of hesitation.
Bai Lianyue’s gaze swept quickly over the battlefield below. A thread of concern she couldn’t quite suppress flickered through her dark-red eyes.
Ai’er… the others…
Are they alright?!
Carrying that anxiety, the elven girl’s sensing curse power flooded out and swept across all of Wishaven in an instant.
Then, a note of surprise surfaced in Bai Lianyue’s eyes.
“Hm?”
The reason for her surprise was simple. Because across this smoke-choked city — while the Terrabond Lineage’s Corrupted Beasts had taken losses, their core strength remained intact; at worst, Yelena had burned herself out. The members of the Lingyuan family were clustered together in a defensive formation, with Luo Fei driving back approaching Vassals of Sky Corrupted Beasts bare-handed. And Ailiya, though locked against a Dragon King, had already gained the upper hand.
On the whole — the scene of catastrophic casualties she had braced herself for had never materialized.

Strange.
A faint puzzlement stirred in Bai Lianyue’s heart. Polarvitan was known for her savagery; historically, every one of her operations left entire families wiped out, not a single soul spared.
This time? She had held back?
“Polarvit— Polana.”
Bai Lianyue’s voice was cool and clear, like ice beads dropping onto a jade plate, cutting through the energy surges and carrying across the entire battlefield.
“You’ve been here for a while already, haven’t you? Why have you just been watching?”
Polarvitan heard this and let out a scoffing laugh, a flicker of disdain passing through her pink-and-violet gaze.
“Didn’t I already explain? I have no interest in getting pelted with a stack of debuffs by your underlings.”
“But what about everyone other than Yelena? You didn’t move on them either.”
Ai’er and the others being safe was a good thing — but Bai Lianyue had a nagging feeling that Polarvitan was up to something.
Faced with the question, Polarvitan looked away and gave a cold snort.
“I didn’t move on them, and you’re complaining about that?”
“I just find it strange. The old you — every time you made a move, you slaughtered everyone present, left no one standing. So this time, how did you…”
“Because…”

Polarvitan glanced up at Bai Lianyue hovering above and bit her lip, her expression complicated. For a moment, images surfaced unbidden in the Abyssal Lord’s mind — her family dying in agony a thousand years ago, her people slaughtered to the last.
The feeling of losing the people who mattered — it made Polarvitan press a hand involuntarily to her chest.
Toward the old hag… Polarvitan’s feelings were, in truth, deeply complicated.
On one hand, she hated Bai Lianyue for betraying the evil gods’ camp and causing her nothing but trouble for a thousand years. On the other hand, she was genuinely grateful to her… because without Bai Lianyue, she would have died at that banquet staged for the amusement of the humans, all those centuries ago.
She never would have lived to see today. Never would have gained the power to take her revenge.
And so, when it came to Bai Lianyue — if she could help it, Polana found herself not wanting the woman to experience that feeling of losing the people who mattered to her. Of course, everyone would still die in the end — whether that Ailiya, or the other Terrabond Lineage vassals, none of them were exempt.
It was simply that Polarvitan wanted to finish off Bai Lianyue first, and deal with the rest afterward.
A small token of repayment. The only one she could offer the old hag.
Naturally, none of this inner reasoning was ever going to leave her mouth.
And besides those thoughts —
There was another idea quietly present somewhere in the tangle of Polana’s conflicted heart.
Which was…
Even if they have to die… it shouldn’t be by her hand…
“Hmph. Killing them to fan your rage and sharpen your fighting spirit? I’m not that stupid.”

“But if I got pushed into a rage and lost my head — even lost control entirely — wouldn’t that be even more advantageous for you?”
Bai Lianyue tilted her head and countered.
Being pressed with that, Polana found herself momentarily stuck, unable to formulate a response, and simply bit her lip in irritation.
“Ugh!!! What’s with all the yammering?!”
Before the words were even out, she thrust a hand forward. A basketball-sized sphere of purple-black light coalesced in her palm, dense curse power churning inside it, radiating a devastatingly violent aura.
“Let’s just fight! Enough talk!! Take this, old hag!!”
With a roar, Polarvitan snapped her wrist. The purple-black Abyss Hex Blast shot out like a cannonball, trailing a piercing shriek as it tore through the air and slammed toward Bai Lianyue. The air along its path sizzled and burned under the curse power, and in its wake, hairline rifts in space itself opened and spread.
Bai Lianyue’s eyes sharpened. Rather than retreating, she pushed forward — ice-blue curse power erupting around her in an instant, condensing into an enormous, solid shield of frozen ice.
Boom!
The Abyss Hex Blast slammed into the ice shield. Purple-black curse power and ice-blue curse power collided in a violent, all-consuming explosion of energy. The shockwave tore through the cloud layer, ripping open a massive energy vortex in the sky above. Ice-blue radiance and purple-black radiance wove together, blazing down and lighting up all of Wishaven.
The ice shield shuddered violently under the impact, cracks spider-webbing across its surface — but it held. Bai Lianyue turned her wrist, dispelling the shield, and closed her hand around a white longsword radiating a bone-deep chill — the White Horizon Sword, Snow Mercy, now shifted into its combat state.
“If you won’t say it… that’s fine too.”
Bai Lianyue narrowed her eyes. Her figure flashed — and in an instant she became a streak of ice-blue afterimage, appearing directly in front of Polarvitan. Snow Mercy sang through the air with a sound like splitting silk, its tip driving straight for Polarvitan’s brow.
Polarvitan had already seen it coming. Her body dissolved into a stream of pale violet water, slipping easily out of the blade’s path. The next instant, she reappeared behind Bai Lianyue, both hands condensing two razor-edged curse power blades of purple-black, and hacked them down toward Bai Lianyue’s back.

“Getting slow in your old age, hag! Don’t tell me Renoval’s garbage scheme actually took a chunk out of you?!”
Bai Lianyue reacted with lightning speed. Black thorns erupted from beneath her skirt in an instant, coiling and snapping like living serpents, catching Polana’s curse power blades. Simultaneously, she spun and drove a kick squarely into Polana’s abdomen.
Crash!!!
The thunderous impact sent Polana sailing backward several hundred meters.
Damn it!!
Son of a —!
Polana swore internally.
She had barely steadied herself, barely begun to channel her curse power into her throat in preparation to strike back with the Song of Disaster — when Bai Lianyue was already there again, right in her face, pursuing without a moment’s pause, and drove Snow Mercy clean through Polana’s throat.
“Cough — cough!!”
Blood sprayed from Polana’s mouth.
In this moment, the curse power around Bai Lianyue surged again — she was clearly moving to press the advantage and follow up with an even heavier blow.
But just then, from somewhere behind Bai Lianyue, a soft and honeyed voice drifted forward — carrying a faint note of teasing and something cold beneath it. It moved like a ghost, and the instant Bai Lianyue heard it, her movements froze.
“Big Sister ~ if we’re playing games, how can you leave me out?”
