Volume 6, Chapter 56 – Hm? Huh? Wait, What?!

“Good evening, Big Sister~”

A soft, adorable greeting — and yet it carried an inexplicable, crawling dread.

The moment the voice rang out, a torrent of pale white flames erupted without warning from behind Bai Lianyue. Threaded through the fire was a strange, shifting ripple of chaos and light — unmistakably one of Ulutiel’s signature techniques: Abyss Hex — Annihilation White Flame.

“Love you~”

“Watch out, Big Sister!”

Down below, Yelena caught sight of this and let out a sharp, alarmed cry.

But it was already too late.

The pale white flames wound themselves around Bai Lianyue’s skirt. Everywhere the fire touched, space itself warped and scorched. The power of Corruption surged along the flames like a flood, gnawing at everything it reached. With a thunderous explosion, the elven girl was swallowed whole.

The instant the flames pinned Bai Lianyue down, a flash of cold light passed through Polana’s eyes. She struck without hesitation — her hand crushing Bai Lianyue’s right wrist, wrenching it free clean from the arm. Then, still wearing the White Horizon Sword lodged in her throat, she seized the sword and retreated backward in one fluid motion.

“I’ll be borrowing your sword, old hag!”

Gripping the hilt of Snow Mercy, Polana ripped it free from her own neck.

On the other side, Ulutiel — having landed her ambush — had no intention of pressing the engagement. Seeing Bai Lianyue engulfed in the flames, she tapped one foot against the empty air and flickered in an instant to Polarvitan’s side. Her dark-blue eyes gleamed with a morbid, delighted light.

“Did you handle things on your end?”

Having already finished regenerating her throat, Polarvitan’s dark-violet eyes slid sideways toward Ulutiel, her tone carrying a distinct note of impatient disdain. Clearly, whatever temporary alliance they had struck, she still had no particular fondness for the Celestial Blight.

Ulutiel didn’t mind in the slightest.

Faced with Polana’s question, Ulutiel covered her mouth with one hand and gave a soft, pleased laugh, that morbid delight flickering through her dark-blue eyes.

“That little girl has been taken care of.”

The memory of delivering Weiya to Robusta Wildwood Canyon only deepened the amusement in Ulutiel’s eyes.

“Once she fully masters that portion of the power… there’ll be nothing Big Sister can do about it. Although…”

“Although what?”

“Before that point, we need to keep her occupied.”

The words were barely out of her mouth when a bone-piercing ice-blue chill erupted without warning. The temperature plummeted to absolute zero in an instant. The white flames encasing Bai Lianyue were frozen solid, shattering into a cascade of countless ice crystal fragments that rained down in silence.

The elven girl stepped forward through a sky full of drifting vapor, emerging from the flames with measured steps. Her previously severed right hand regenerated at a visible speed — the curse power at the break point surging like a tide, knitting itself back together until it was as if nothing had happened at all.

“Give me back my sword.”

Her gaze fixed on Polana’s face, Bai Lianyue’s voice carried a quiet chill.

“Says who?”

Polana raised an eyebrow. Then — seemingly for no other purpose than to provoke her — she began swinging the White Horizon Sword around with studied nonchalance.

“Old hag, do you think I’m an idiot?! This sword is mine now! You want it back? Not a chance!”

“Then I’d advise you to be careful.”

“Careful of what? Accidentally cutting you to death?”

“No. That sword has a rather willful temperament. If anyone other than me touches the hilt, she tends to get… displeased.”

“Huh? What does that mean?”

Polana frowned, clearly not following — and at that exact moment, a tearing pain suddenly shot through her wrist.

“Hm?”

By the time Polana registered what had happened, the hand holding Snow Mercy had been severed at the wrist by the sword’s own released sword qi. The White Horizon Sword slipped free of her grip and flew back to Bai Lianyue’s side.

Bai Lianyue closed her hand around the hilt and gave a quiet laugh.

“That’s what it means.”

“Old hag……………”

Polana hissed between her teeth, biting her lip, her voice low and vicious.

Beside her, Ulutiel covered her mouth primly and sent her a look of pure mockery.

“Getting your hand cut off by a plain old sword — Seafood Sister, you really do have a sense of dignity, don’t you~”

“Shut up! It’s just that my human form isn’t as durable, that’s all!”

“If it isn’t durable, why bother holding onto the form? Do you want Big Sister to mince you into paste? I didn’t know you and I shared the same taste, hehe~”

“Who shares anything with a freak like you?!”

Polana snapped back irritably.

“But fair enough — maintaining the human form isn’t really appropriate right now. In this shape she can basically just swing at me whenever she feels like it…”

“Glad you see it that way.”

“Hmph.”

Polarvitan let out a cold snort.

The next instant — the purple-black curse power around Polarvitan detonated in a catastrophic surge, sweeping outward like a tidal wave. The curse power was so dense it had taken on a tangible quality, carrying with it the corrosive reek of something that consumed all things. In its wake, the air distorted, the ground cracked apart, and chunks of rubble were wrenched upward by the current and began to float.

The once petite and sharp-featured siren girl swelled outward in a corona of purple-black light — and in an instant transformed into a colossal serpent that blotted out the sky. Scales like dark-purple black iron layered across her body in overlapping tiers, each one gleaming with a cold, frozen sheen, every edge sharp as a blade and shimmering with dangerous light. Her serpentine eyes were two vast violet moons — deep, unsettling, radiating a pressure that made souls tremble. Two pairs of demonic horns pulsed with dense, concentrated curse aura, savage and nightmarish. The serpent’s coiled body wound and spiraled until it blotted out nearly half the sky above Wishaven.

The great serpent opened its maw and let loose a world-shaking roar. The sound wave, saturated with curse power, shattered the glass of buildings several blocks away in an instant. Cracks radiated outward across the ground like a spider’s web, deep and bottomless.

“Now that’s more like it~”

At the sight of it, Ulutiel licked her lips, and her own form began to shift.

“Seafood Sister is getting serious — I can’t fall behind~”

The small white-haired girl’s silhouette dissolved — and in her place rose an enormous three-headed, six-winged dragon. Three pairs of wings spread open, spanning dozens of zhang in width, and the gales they kicked up sliced through the air like blades, letting out a piercing, shrieking howl. Pale white flames and terrible curse power coiled around the dragon’s body, weaving together into a warped energy field that caused the space around it to shudder — as if it might tear apart at any moment.

Two great evil gods unleashing their true forms simultaneously — the dread aura swept through all of Wishaven like a tidal wave and spread beyond, washing over the surrounding towns and cities. The earth shook violently. Mountain peaks crumbled. Rivers ran backward. All of Yao Xing seemed to feel the weight of this annihilating pressure. The sky darkened, as though the end of days had arrived.

Corrupted Beast and human alike trembled under the crushing force. Those without sufficient power — the moment they felt the full weight of that aura, blood burst from every orifice and they dropped dead where they stood.

With her power fully unleashed, Polarvitan’s confidence surged to a peak. The great serpent’s head swung sharply toward the position Bai Lianyue had last occupied, and she let out a roar that shook the heavens.

“Come on then, old hag!!! This time it won’t be over so easily!”

And then — in the very next second — she found herself staring at empty air.

“Hm?”

Polarvitan’s enormous serpent head tilted slightly to one side. Confusion flickered through those vast serpentine eyes.

The old hag… where did she go?

Ulutiel beside her was equally lost, blinking in blank bewilderment.

After a brief moment of staring at each other, the two thoroughly baffled evil gods immediately began scanning left and right for any trace of Bai Lianyue.

Drawing on their extraordinary perception, the two colossal entities located Bai Lianyue’s presence before long — not far away, atop the rubble of the Lingyuan family’s ruined estate.

And then —

Polana and Ulutiel both went dumbfounded at the exact same moment.

Because there, under the wide-eyed stares of two evil gods —

The elven girl had not taken up any battle-ready stance as they might have expected.

Instead, she had run to the top of the rubble, thrown her arms around a silver-haired girl who had been standing there —

And kissed her.

Directly.

On the lips.
