Volume 6, Chapter 61 – My Power… Is Being Drained?!

The Celestial Blight, Ulutiel. The Abyssal Lord, Polarvitan.

For the birth of these two evil gods, Bai Lianyue bore undeniable responsibility. Long ago, when she had first fused with the Terran Malevolence and taken dominance over that body, she had been forced to cleave away a portion of the energy within her — the only way to suppress the surging curse power and the terrifying killing instincts threatening to overwhelm her.

Polana, the sea-folk priestess who had been imprisoned by humans, and the dying little sacred dragon Ulutiel — these two became the vessels for that severed power, and from that act, the two great evil god lineages were born.

It was true that the Terrabond Lineage had spent nearly a thousand years confined to The Veiled Domain, rarely moving against humans, their sins comparatively few.

But the Vassals of Sky and the Vassals of Sea were a different matter entirely. They had authored countless tragedies. Over a thousand years, the number of sentient lives that had perished at their hands was beyond counting. And in Bai Lianyue’s eyes, all of it traced back to her.

Perhaps, as House Solrog had once condemned her — if she had let go of her obsessions over Xing Wu and her vengeance, if she had simply destroyed herself when she first became the Terran Malevolence, Yao Xing would have been spared this millennium of catastrophe long ago.

But whatever the case, things had come this far. What Bai Lianyue could do now… was only to repair as much of the damage she had caused as she still could.

And yet even as those thoughts passed through her, the bellflower mark on her forehead began to flicker — its light pulsing erratically — and a dark, corrupted aura churned within her previously calm dark-crimson eyes. Mobilizing her main body’s power on this scale, turning all of The Veiled Domain into a weapon to bind two evil gods, seemed to have pushed past the limits of what she could currently sustain.

Even with the vast purifying power of the Heart of the World she had received from Ailiya, she still could not fully hold that instinct down.

The instinct of corrupting power, seizing upon this unprecedented mass mobilization of curse power, surged back in furious retaliation — creeping along her curse power circuits, eroding her will.

“Ugh…”

A stifled groan escaped her lips. Her ice-blue hair trembled faintly as her body convulsed. Black curse power bled uncontrolled from all around her, scorching the surrounding air.

In that moment, Bai Lianyue felt as though her mind was being skewered by countless needles. Waves of negative emotion and strange, whispering voices crashed over her like a tide.

—”Honestly… so loud.”—

“Old hag — what’s happening to you?!”

Pinned fast by black mud and roots, Polarvitan was the first to sense the change. A flicker of suspicion crossed her serpentine eyes. She could feel Bai Lianyue’s curse power fluctuating into disorder, the aura suppressing them both easing slightly.

She didn’t know what was happening — but it was clearly an opening.

On instinct alone, the remaining violet-black curse power within Polarvitan surged into violent motion, straining to tear free from the mud and roots. Simultaneously, the jewel on her forehead writhed, and a naked, half-formed figure of a pink-haired girl grew forth from within it.

Hands pressed to her chest, the girl prepared to sing.

There was no doubt — Polarvitan was going to use the technique she had long been holding back: the Song of Disaster . Even if it caught Ulutiel in its range, she would use this gap while Bai Lianyue was losing control to deal a crippling blow!

On the other side, Ulutiel reacted as well. All three heads rose together. The golden holy light, the pale-white flames, and the chaotic white mist surged back to life with renewed intensity — the energy that had flagged suddenly reviving — as she clearly threw everything she had into tearing free and landing a killing strike.

“Would you both just… be quiet. “

Gritting through the searing pain in her skull, Bai Lianyue forced her disordered curse power under control for a single instant. Her dark-crimson eyes sharpened abruptly, locking onto the two evil gods.

The very moment Ulutiel’s energy was about to explode — the black briars coiled around her dragon form suddenly blazed with red light. Countless Crimson Spectre Eyes surfaced from within the barbed thorns. Their pupils contracted — and a tremendous suction force erupted.

“?!!”

Ulutiel let out a shriek of bewilderment. The three-colored energy she had labored to build up found an outlet — and against her will, it poured through the Crimson Spectre Eyes and into the briars. The power she had so carefully amassed was stripped away in an instant. The golden holy light dimmed. The pale-white flames extinguished. The chaotic white mist thinned to nothing. Her dragon form’s thrashing went limp.

And it didn’t stop there. Beneath the gaze of the Crimson Spectre Eyes, Ulutiel’s enormous dragon body began to wither — shriveling visibly as a vast torrent of vitality bled out of her at terrifying speed.

At the same time, the girl-form on Polarvitan’s forehead had been enveloped by a violet-black curse power radiance. The prelude of the Song of Disaster trembled on the edge of beginning.

—”Song of Disaster — First Movement.”—

“Aah—!”

A streak of ice-blue light tore through the void. The White Horizon Sword — Snow Mercy — broke free from Bai Lianyue’s grip, carrying a piercing surge of curse power, and shot straight for the jewel on Polarvitan’s forehead. The blade’s speed was absolute. Polarvitan had no time to react. Snow Mercy pierced the half-formed girl before the Song could be voiced.

Thwack!

The blade punched through and froze the girl-form into shards of ice, then drove straight into the gemstone beneath — violet-black blood erupted outward, and the curse power building toward the Song of Disaster scattered apart instantly. Polarvitan let out a cry of agony.

“You miserable… rotten old hag…!”

She thrashed her World Serpent body frantically, only for the black mud and roots to cinch tighter in response. The barbed thorns plunged deeper into her flesh, sending spasms of pain wracking through her entire form.

Bai Lianyue raised her hand. Snow Mercy streaked back to her as a flash of light, and the blood on its blade was swept clean in an instant by a surge of ice-blue curse power. Enduring the agony of the corruption eating into her, her dark-crimson eyes filled with absolute resolve. Her left hand drove downward in a sharp press:

“ Shatter. “

—Hmm—

The black curse power throughout The Veiled Domain exploded into fury. The black mud, the briars, the roots — all coiled around the two evil gods — bore down at once, like countless invisible blades, crushing and tearing at their enormous forms.

With a wail, Polarvitan’s World Serpent body cracked apart inch by inch. Violet-black scales flew. Her serpentine form was forcibly compressed. Ulutiel’s three-headed dragon form buckled under the pressure — wings snapping, scales torn free, all three heads drooping limp and low. Two piercing screams rang out together, and the two evil gods’ massive forms collapsed beneath the grinding curse power, disintegrating into clouds of curse power fragments before condensing at last into two small, humanoid figures.

Polarvitan reverted to the form of a siren girl. Her pink-violet hair lay matted and tangled against her pale skin. Her bare body was covered in wounds, violet-black blood sliding down her flesh. Black briars held her fast in midair, immovable. She clenched her teeth, her deep-violet eyes blazing with helpless fury — but her injured throat could not form words, only emit hoarse, rasping sounds.

Ulutiel reverted to her white-haired girl form of around thirteen years of age. The manic feverishness that had filled her deep-blue eyes earlier was gone, replaced only by dumbfounded disbelief. She too was bare, her skin crosshatched with lacerations from the thorns. Black mud coiled around her limbs like chains, suspending her in the air. The golden holy light and the chaotic white mist had vanished entirely, leaving only the faintest flicker of curse power still clinging to life within her.

Looking at the two evil gods in their battered human forms, a flicker of something complicated passed through Bai Lianyue’s eyes — and was immediately replaced by resolve.

She understood clearly: simply killing them would not end this.

As long as she herself still lived… Ulutiel and Polarvitan would revive again.

So there was only one choice left to her.

The elven girl drew a quiet breath. Her voice was faintly hoarse from the corruption eating at her.

Several figures surfaced in her mind one after another.

She had wanted to spend more time with Xing Wu… but it seemed that wasn’t going to be possible after all. …Ah.

Ai’er would probably be furious.

And those two little ones, Miya and Weiya — they would cry, wouldn’t they…

I’m sorry.

Hss…

Raising a hand to press against her temple, feeling the corruption’s instinct gnawing at her, Bai Lianyue bit down hard on her lip.

No — stop. Can’t let my thoughts wander. Have to do this quickly…

The thought decided, the elven girl’s eyes narrowed, and the ice-blue light within them deepened.

“Rumble—!”

The earth of The Veiled Domain began to convulse violently — more savage than anything that had come before. The black soil churned in a surging torrent. Vast quantities of black curse power poured up from deep beneath the earth, flowing through the veins of mountain, river, and forest toward the center, condensing below the two evil gods into a single enormous core of black curse power. Within that core, ice-blue purifying light and black curse power coiled together in frenzy, radiating an annihilating presence…

Bai Lianyue’s intention was clear.

She was going to detonate the entire core of The Veiled Domain — erasing Ulutiel, Polana… and herself along with them.

But just as the energy of the self-detonating core reached its critical threshold — the instant it was on the cusp of being enough to obliterate all three evil gods —

“…Hm?”

Bai Lianyue’s dark-crimson eyes snapped wide, her pupils flooding with disbelief.

What —

My power…

It’s draining away?! No — not draining. Something is… absorbing it?!
