Volume 6, Chapter 63 – The Wrath of Valerdis

Valerdis.

That is the name I received from the will of Corruption at the moment of my birth as an evil god.

As an evil god born from the consumption of countless resentful souls, my purpose is singular: to bring ruin to Yao Xing.

To devour every living thing within it, and return the power gained from that consumption to Corruption.

To that end, after I was born through the Sacred Elf Tree a thousand years ago, I began to accumulate strength.

Under ordinary circumstances, an evil god upon birth wields a terrifying force sufficient to overturn the world.

But my situation was somewhat different.

Due to the machinations of House Solrog, I had not gathered sufficient resentment before my descent into this world. And so, to avoid being controlled by those Solrog wretches while still in an incomplete state, and to accumulate greater power, I concealed my true form in the depths of Robusta Wildwood canyon.

Since my vessel at birth was the Sacred Elf Tree, I could use its neural network — spread throughout the earth — to effortlessly diffuse Corruption and absorb resentful energy.

My plan was to gather sufficient power, then swallow this world whole in one decisive stroke.

Everything had been proceeding smoothly… until one day, a thousand years ago.

On that day, a human — half-dead, nearly drained of all power — fell from above into the canyon. Such an offering delivered to my doorstep was naturally welcomed. Especially since this particular human possessed an uncommonly formidable body, and a heart absolutely brimming with fearsome resentment.

A perfect source of nourishment!

And then, just as I moved to devour him — this human resisted ?! He even clamped his jaws around my core?!

The searing agony set my entire being trembling. Fury surged through me, and I swallowed his body whole, intending to simply digest this wretch directly.

His body — that First Celestial Augur Knight’s body — was indeed consumed… but for some reason, his soul proved impossible to extinguish.

Worse than that — he began fighting me for control of the body from within ?!

I am an evil god. Even in my incomplete state, the intensity of the resentment I carried far surpassed that of any ordinary human soul. But this one — this wretch called Bai Lianyue — possessed a will and an obsession of frightening strength. And beyond even that, his soul carried some inexplicable special pressure upon it…

In the end, I lost that struggle. My will was consumed by this monster instead.

Of course — born as I was from this world’s accumulated resentment, a will such as mine could not be extinguished so easily.

When Bai Lianyue found himself unable to contain Corruption’s power and was forced to disperse it outward, I seized that moment. Together with a portion of that dispersed power, I retreated back to the depths of Robusta Wildwood canyon and waited — waiting for the chance to reclaim my body and my power.

That wait lasted… a thousand goddamn years.

During that span, the human who blundered into the canyon — the one who called himself “Renoval” — did grant me one brief hope of a resurgence.

Regrettably, he failed.

And so I had no choice but to endure further, biding my time for the next opportunity, quietly gathering energy through the underground network of the Sacred Elf Tree, waiting for the moment to strike back.

That moment has now, at last, arrived.

Weiya-Lingyuan.

This girl, guided here by Corruption’s will, carries the blood of an evil god — enough to circumvent the barriers Bai Lianyue erected and enter the sealed space.

Her aptitude surpasses Renoval’s from four hundred years ago. Using her body, I can undoubtedly manifest far greater power.

And unlike four hundred years ago — those other two evil gods, who have likewise received Corruption’s gifts, are at this very moment launching an assault on Bai Lianyue.

Which means Bai Lianyue cannot spare any attention for what transpires within Robusta Wildwood canyon.

Now… this is the perfect moment for my liberation!!

Those blood-colored eyes swept across the surroundings. Within Valerdis’s gaze rose an excitement unlike anything felt before.

The exhilaration of freedom regained.

“A thousand years… a full thousand years and more!”

Alongside that exhilaration, the blood vessels in those crimson eyes swelled with rage. The dark-red fluid they secreted dripped to the ground, eating small black pits into the earth.

A thousand years… I am a great evil god born from resentment itself, yet I was forced to languish here for a thousand years because of that wretch?!

A thousand years!! A thousand years of humiliation!!

All because of that damned Bai Lianyue!!

That miserable human…

I will make you pay the most devastating price imaginable!!

With that thought, Valerdis turned a venomous gaze toward the silver-haired girl currently serving as his vessel.

For now, having just broken the seal by parasitizing Weiya, rebuilding his own form would take time. He still needed to use this girl’s body as a medium through which to gradually draw his evil god power back into himself.

The feeling of being parasitic within another was deeply unpleasant — but Valerdis quickly recognized that right now was, in fact, a perfect moment for revenge.

By prying through Weiya’s memories, Valerdis had learned a great deal about Bai Lianyue.

Ailiya.

The twins. Luo Fei. Xi Xuan. Sister Cat. Dog Bro. Octopus Sister… Elder Sister Yelena?

And a newly born little sister as well?

It seems you’ve been living quite comfortably all these years, haven’t you, Bai Lianyue?

Since you hold all these people so dear — I’ll begin with them. I’ll torture every last one of them to death, then cut off their heads with agony still frozen on their faces and deliver them to you. And when you realize that everything was done… by the daughter you so cherished?

What sort of expression will you make?

“Heh. Heheh. Hahahahahahaha!”

Laughter saturated with venom rang out through the canyon.

He would inflict the most merciless revenge upon Bai Lianyue imaginable. Destroying her physically alone would not be enough — the torment had to reach her soul as well.

The instant that decision was made, Valerdis’s guiding voice drifted into Weiya’s ear.

“Come. It is time to go home. Time to find your beloved elder sister.”

The elder of the twins — she would be the first.

“Go home?”

Weiya heard Valerdis’s words and nodded in a dazed, hazy way, a deeply unsettling gleam surfacing in her eyes.

“Yes… it’s time. Time to go find Elder Sister Ailiya.”

With those words spoken, Weiya’s feet lifted slowly and she began walking toward the canyon’s exit. The scarlet dress traced an eerie arc through the black mist. The Corrupted Beast horde nearby — already brought under Valerdis’s dominion — let out low, rumbling growls, ready at any moment to follow their master into slaughter.

—”The hour of revenge… has come!”—

The eyeball on Weiya’s shoulder quivered continuously with excitement.

But just as Weiya was about to step out of the canyon —

“Slash——”

Without warning, a burst of silver light mist erupted from within the black fog, landing squarely in Weiya’s path. Like the light of dawn breaking, it scattered the corrupted aura ahead in an instant.

?!!

Who?!

Valerdis’s eyeball contracted sharply. The venomous exhilaration was replaced by immediate wariness.

The next moment —

Under that wary stare, the light mist dissipated, and a slender silver figure stepped quietly forward. It was a girl whose features bore roughly sixty percent resemblance to Weiya’s — dressed in a silver-white combat uniform, silver hair falling to her shoulders like moonlight, her cherry-colored eyes carrying a trace of resignation, though far more than that was an authority that left no room for doubt.

A faint mist of purifying light drifted around her. Wherever she passed, the black mist condensed from curse power receded like a tide, and even the traces of corruption on the ground below slowly faded.

And so the girl stood, blocking Weiya’s path.

Her gaze settled on Weiya’s crimson eyes and on the writhing, eerie red eyeball — and her voice, soft and gentle, carried a quiet, penetrating weight:

—”My dear little sister. Why are you being so naughty?”—
